  1. Apparently 30% off as they're being discontinued, wonder how much they are or what Alex will replace them with. Would be interesting to see someone retrofit one into a BB2!
  2. Incidentally what is the power amp used in the FR800, is this it? https://www.hypex.nl/product/psc2-400d/67
  3. Barefaced detractors usually feel compelled to voice their opinions after a healthy dose of BF evangelism from other posters, that's definitely the case here. This has been a gear thread free from brand fanboys for over 40 pages which is great, hopefully it can continue. FWIW my opinions: Barefaced - very good Rickenbackers - horrible things Keytars - everybody should own and gig one ACS - no opinion Bros - bloody love 'em
  4. The main issue is that bassman seems to think Alex had this amazing idea of a powered bass cab when in reality he just wanted a slice of the PA pie. Makes sense as there's more money to be made there than in the boutique bass cab market. There was no visionary concept of powered bass cabs, just basically copying what established manufacturers have been doing for decades, making it look a bit homemade and passing it off as new. Personally I think for the FR800 he should have changed the aesthetic design rather than sticking with the DIY cab look, I don't think their appearance will steer many people away from what is already out there.
  5. I think the idea was to step into the powered PA cab market, not further fragment an already niche existing audience. It wasn't ever conceived as a bass cab, I can remember when it was in development and the purpose was always for PA. Don't believe me? Ask Alex! About four years ago we used the original Big Baby T cabs as a PA system and everyone who heard it was blown away by the clarity, depth and tone - they couldn't believe such a massive sound was coming from two small cabs. The all-new FR800 represents the logical conclusion of that concept - a true full-range active PA loudspeaker. What is this for? Accurate high SPL sound reproduction! Two FR800s on stands can replace a typical dual tops plus sub PA system, with better sound quality and vastly reduced size and weight. Ideal for any bands who bring their own PA and don't want to compromise on sound. Is this only designed to be used as a PA speaker? No! The FR800 is able to reproduce any audio signal (within its design bandwidth) with extreme accuracy at punishing sound pressure level. It is far too powerful for home hi-fi use and does not go deep enough for cinema subwoofer purposes but it will do almost anything else. Suggested alternate uses: Keyboards Bass guitar Double bass Acoustic instruments PA subwoofer Large format studio monitor
  6. Tell me about it, we do two gigs with steep outdoor stairs which aren't safe to carry big heavy boxes up, especially in Winter. A while ago I saw one of the big Peli trolley cases in Crack Converters which was brand new (foam intact etc, not a cheap thing to buy) for £80 which would have taken all our cables as well as lighting cables, guy in the shop was sick of it being in the way so would have got it cheaper. Made the suggestion "why don't we..." but it fell on deaf ears. A week later we were huffing the rack up fire escape stairs in the pouring rain, not enough room to take it up with one person on each side so one carried it from the top and the other supported it from the bottom. Had to take all the drawers out to make it borderline safe. Where do you get those female singers which carry equipment? Ours have always been reluctant to pick a mic up if they don't have to. Then again the male ones were the same.
  7. I had two Markbass Club 112 cabs which had a kickback feature were great but I sold them and bought a QSC K10.2.
  8. I've been trying to convince the rest of the band to ditch our big rack, it's essentially a Mackie DL32R in a huge case with a load of drawers for cables underneath. Made sense when we had the 16 channel Mackie as we needed the lid to come off and cables were routed to a front panel but the 32 channel version can basically slide in a normal rack unit (which we already have sat there doing nothing!) and means we would have one less 2 man lift to carry up stairs. The guitarist put it together and is really proud of it so it looks like it's staying.
  9. Looks like the Markbass Marcus Miller range all have an optional wedge design, he's done the odd tour over the years! Even the 4x10 can be angled up, I can imagine that takes up a lot of space on stage. Their standard 121HR also has this feature.
  10. And the majority of consumers won't be touring musicians with provided wedges, hence why amp stands sell pretty well. We get threads on here where people are wondering why they can't hear themselves on stage when they're stood 2ft in front of their amp.
  11. I don't know why amp manufacturers don't include a wedge option in every amp/cab design. The Markbass Club series cabs I owned did this and it's primarily why I bought them, the little EA cab I use also has a handle on the base which can be used to tilt it up. A (removable?) ridge along the back to secure an amp head would also be nice!
  12. Also dated Danni Minogue and Melanie Sykes. Done alright has our Ken.
  13. Sure I get why that would be massively beneficial for FoH - we take our RCF subs to every gig purely because it sounds better irrespective of volume - but for personal monitoring I want something which I can hear clearly, is easy to position and doesn't bleed into drum/vocal mics.
  14. Where does the need for a sub come from? Are you playing huge stages or big rooms with no PA support?
  15. I think eBay are doing or have done something to facilitate viewings on collection items and will let you share contact details now, just don't remove the listing soon after or they'll try and charge you the fees anyway. That's what they tried with me, cheeky sods. EDIT: Although when I used to sneak round the message system I used words for numbers - won, too, free, fore, fife etc.
  16. I wonder if Viz will be doing their free Bros mug promotion again?
  17. I'm pretty sure they used to be a lot more informative and beneficial - educational even! Now you watch them and they drag on, after a few minutes you forget what the video was supposed to be about while Scott eats his cornflakes and tells you what his favourite Ikea shelving unit is. I unsubscribed a while ago without any fuss, no hate for the guy or anything. Just seems like a decent resource for players has soured a little.
  18. Ah right, that's the Kramer. Bridge looks like the piezo one I have:
  19. This is why I stopped watching his videos, you get to the halfway stage and he's still waffling on about something completely irrelevant and uninteresting.
  20. Do you have to poke strings through that wooden block every time you remove them or does it release them somehow? If it's the former then I'd bin that feature off, looks nice but would be a PITA. Otherwise stunning instruments though. Like another poster said I'd go piezo only and fretless, the overall aesthetic would suit less clutter IMO.
  21. Loving that Charvel, piezo bridge too?
  22. Can't really see how paying £140 for a heavy budget 4x10 is good value if where you live has any sort of 2nd hand market, fair enough for the guy above who struggles finding cabs. You can buy a used Hartke/Ashdown equivalent for less which will hold it's value - there's a frickin' Eden Nemesis 4x10 in the FS section for £70, an Ashdown 2x10 for £80 and a Mi12 for £100. The 1x15 and 2x10 had a shop floor price of £129, not exactly a massive discount seeing as these have been sat in a warehouse for 8 years. The used one on here sold for £40 in 2014 apparently......
  23. I use a right angled jack with mine, just use the standard locking IEC cable it came with and never had a problem. When it's in use you can put your hand underneath and feel if there is any pressure on the cable and there's barely any which is good enough for me. I can understand not wanting even a slight bit of pressure with a jack or XLR cable as they are more prone to breaking but with an IEC lead it's overthinking things a little.
  24. A lot of amateur custom basses seem to have those badly cut bits of DVD cases for control plates, I guess you could say it compliments the c0ck-eyed lines of the body? I've had another look and I think my parents had a wardrobe made of that exact wood when I was a kid. EDIT- What "c0ck-eyed" is picked up by the swear filter? I guess this site is racist against northerners now, be banning whippets and racing pigeons next.
