1.
I agree .. here's a short vid from a gig last month supporting the "sex pistols experience" .. not our usual set but a really loud gig in a club and badly recorded on a mobile phone. With the tone knob cranked I never have a problem sounding full but still punching through. I'm sure a better player than myself could get similar ..or better results with a beaten up Westfiled. I'm hoping you're that man. Post a quick vid of your next gig as I'm interested in seeing what a cheap bass with good strings is capable of in a live environment. I'm looking for a cheap back up bass and if you convince me I will be saving myself hundreds!
your vid. bad recording, but the bass is clearly evident. now, in that full-on style music, would you really tell an expensive bass from a much cheaper one? volume aside, i dont think so! I'm a bit of a bugger for making a point and upsetting comfortable apple carts. here's the westfield. I love the thought of seeing peoples nose turn up, then raise there eyebrows when i rip the notes out of it. I almost bought a SD for it today but decided otherwise and bought a s/h Hohner B2A instead .(you see, bad taste bass,I'm a bugger!) Now you've got me wanting to get this ugly shrapnel-peppered upside-down beast on stage!! hmm...maybe 2 weeks time i will have spare funds for a pickup. or maybe just crank it up! BTW you do a fine job in the vid man. solid.
2. Rick's.......another bass, along with Fender P and Jazz, lathered in Nostalgia and not much beyond., indeed a forerunner of it's kind of tone, but bettered many times over for emulation and variation. In need of a plectrum to get 'that' sound. Hail to the Grandfathers of basses, but lots of new kids in town. I would however love a Rick guitar.
3. 12 watts better than 0 watts. Welcome!
4. carpet covering.......ugh.!....got a Hartke kickback on loan and I need to give it a wash and shampoo and check it for headlice before returning it. horrible fluffy cack. Carpet covering...........crapet!
5.
I've got a brand new Steinberger Spirit bag left over from when we were Sound Control. £20 delivered.
pm'd
6. Graham Maby from Joe Jackson band. Geraldine and John is a fine example of his melody driven work. As mentioned above, the brilliant Bruce Thomas from Elvis C.
7. Can they be bought or is there something that someone can suggest? My Google only got a D in GCSE searching a bit too big for a brolly carry case...
8. copyright???? or tesco's selling bass players?
9. thread reminds me of the time I was signed up to Z-brush forum (computer software digital sculpting) and Rick Baker, the Hollywood number 1 Make-up/SFX guy was posting stuff on there. I knew before anyone else that it was him ( a friend works for him) but when it leaked out (not me!) they were all over him. It was sickly. Rick contacted me personally regarding my friendship with friend Mike, and indeed my stuff on the forum. OK, these people have been where most of aspire to be, but they are just like us in that they want to listen to other's opinions. Be cool about it.
10. what an absolute beauty. Get me one of those one day
11.
I reckon Waynepunkdude is John Myung
I reckon he is Stan Laurel! ("Me too"..............?)
12. Makes you wonder what the original band sounded like. I mean, in the studio they go, producer strips it right back until his/her identity is all over it.(Trevor Horne v Frankie GTH) So even the bassists may have been instructed, though the young guy can obviously play. Oops, best check to see if it was self-produced
13. who? sorry, but don't know any Stone Roses songs. ( I know, where have I been?!) Like he doesn't know any of mine. Another bassist has joined. Welcome.
14. He looks very young. Plenty of time to forge a distinguished career.
15. what bass is that he is playing? Ahhh.....FOUR strings
16. what the **** was that video in aid of????? Park Life.........................................Park Life............ versus I'm a firestarter, i'm a firestarter, i'm a firestarter............ either neither neither either give it up for f*** sake
17. D'addario on fretted basses.with D'addario Chromes on my fretless. so, D'addario. in fact my lesser basses just get hand-me-downs.

21.
There can't be. Otherwise, why would anyone be reading this thread:-).
I was tricked into it by the rather curious thread title.....unfaaaaaiiiiirrrr!!!!!!!
22. Good call man. Off to Amazon....
23.
... guess what, you just brought a gun to a bomb fight!
disagree! well....I have t prove that, dont I? Aaaaany bass can sound great with good strings in your bedroom/demo in a nice little studio on youtube. . Proof is getting through the thud of the kick and bottom end of ***** keyboards through the PA Gimme a couple of weeks, I will gig it and get back.
24. bloody hell, sounds like nailing a P sound is as difficult as getting to see the Wizard of Oz! In readiness to be lebelled 'blasphemous"..... I continue to shake my head in confusion regarding the popularity of a bass that can sound distinctly average unless brought to life by the attack of a plectrum. I really think it's a nostalgia thing, having a 70's P bass with original this and that, genuine roadworn etc. Listened to all of the vids posted, and many more on youtube. I still think it has been super-seeded by many basses but people keep looking back a Jamerson and the likes thinking, "well if the old masters knew what was good" I feel a challenge coming on.I think I will put a decent pick up in my old beaten up Westfiled bass cos the neck plays really nice. I bet I can get it to stand up to many of your P's.......there's only one way to find out..... FIGHT! edit: Bob Babbit awesome player. that's a great documentary if you haven't seen it. . But my oh my, Joan Osborne, what a great voice.
25. nothing on the telly?
