Seen it. Terrible! Is it just me, or is he very average? I don't get how he has a signature bass. Maybe I am just jealous that he was in a band with Paul Rodgers! -
The very complicated £200 Bass Challenge (with Sound Samples)

true...... the thread is getting a response. My flippancy probably stems from days gone by when coming across a left-handed bass was as rare as hen's teeth, so we had to take anything, or play upside down etc. as you were chaps! -

This bass, that configuration, this measurement.......haha! for goodness sake man, grab a bass and make it play for you!!! -
Could someone please give me a brief pointer on the mid 90's squiers that were made in the Cort factory? I read on another forum that they can vary dramatically, while someone said they are very close to a MIA build. I am looking for another project bass to possible install better pups. So, a mid 90's Korean P bass...yes? no? cheers
out of interest which aria are you recommending? The TSB series is great but you see few of them about
that is your dilemma. people can suggest basses ( I have never heard of most of them) but you could wait months until one came up. was there a deadline? also, if you are picky, as you say, you need to try it out. Squire. acceptable weight, a shape you know, waiting for a set up and pick ups. -
I'd agree. Is it a pre-2000 Korean Squier?
I think it's an older one. ? Don't look at such things. I decide it's going to have to work no matter what and that is it. As another post stated, its more about the electronics. And of course the will to make good music. . Don't stress over this and that and which and what so much! -

I bought a P/J squire for £90 .2 Dimarzio s/h replacement pups = £60. total £150 my talent to bring the best out of it = free That's it. I'm gigging it tomorrow cos it feels and sounds the way I want it. Way too much emphasis on expensive equipment. -
I don't think either player has done anything worth listening to for years.
RHCP on Jools Holland were AWFUL. Every song sounded the same. As for LC, it's baggady-"baggady-baggady-slappady" with silly lyrics. But, it's an opinion. no one is right, and no one is wrong.
Fair enough, but regardless of how many punters are pissed or are musicians, or possibly both, I know whether the bass part is correct or not. Working on the assumption that the audience will be off their heads or otherwise uncritical is the laziest possible excuse for not putting the work in! As to them having a good time... I can deal with that.
Yep. Consistency. Whether there are 3 people, or 3,000 people. Drunk or sober, muso's or not.Awful acoustics or beautiful. Play your game to the height of your standards at all times and you will never be caught being anything less than your best. If that isn't good enough for them, then it is for you. Amen.
Dennis Currie - Portadown 02838335666. Dennis did some work for me a couple of years ago. His work was perfect and a reasonable price too. Ernie McMillen 07974675323. I think Ernie lives near Belfast (but not sure). He has done some work for a couple of friends and they highly recommend his work. Peter Griffin (don't have a number for him). He lives in Ballinderry (20 mins from Belfast). I've not seen any of his work, but if the comments on one of the local forums is anything to go by, he's a first rate luthier. Hope this helps David
Peter Griffin? Giggady-giggady-goo!!!! Sorry. -
Serve the song.........does the bass line serve the song? I would take a hazardous guess that, no matter how lauded a bass player me be here or any other bass site, there will be a song they have played on where their bass playing hasn't served the song.....even (insert your name here). Can't stand Level 42, but their bass player seems to serve their songs with his approach.....mostly? Can't stand U2, but their man on bass seems to do the same, serve the song that is.......mostly? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they appear to have slightly different techniques from one another. Whatever..........
Mark King drives the song with his face up agains the windscreen, while Adam Clayton simply, and admirably; supports it. BTW one of may favourite songs to play live is Duffy's 'Mercy'. Muted strings, thumb and first finger plucks..so simple, but the muting accentuates the importance of keeping it tighter than tight. Love it.

I've been through the Mark King, Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten etc phases when it comes to admiration. But, as Don Henley put it, "After the boys of Summer have gone.." I go back to Andy Fraser, and Pino. And I always will.

Maybe it would be a band decision?. In my earlier live days I would just go off and do my own thing(Depeche Mode song on my fretless with sliding harmonics!) - only to get daggers from certain band members. Generally guitarists mind you, who as we all know, fully deserve all of the limelight and rights to solos.
If the money's not right I won't do cover gigs, as I have my own original music to be working on and playing out live, but if the money is right then I'll play whatever. I used to be of a similar mindset that I won't play this or that (and I will end up putting my foot down on certain songs that I really have had enough of playing), but largely for me at least it's a means to an end. I don't anticipate I'll be playing covers forever, but for now if there's one or two tunes that are hits with the audiences that I'll hate, I'll just grit my teeth and go to my happy place.
well said.

That's a beauty. Frozen White does depict a slight hint of blue, so I will use my imagination to see it in al its glory. Well done mate.
Did a gig which was a highlight for me already because of who was in the band - the drummer had played with Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, so I was a babbling kid in a candy store during rehearsals to begin with. On the first night of the week long run, I'm milling round the entrance trying to keep my obvious nerves away from the others when in walks the late, great Pete Postlethwaite. During the gig I see John Rocha, and after the gig Elvis Costello comes back to say hello to the band (he's a deceptively huge man - hands like shovels). Another time playing in Ronnie Scott's, Pete Townsend is there as his girlfriend was in the opening act. But even better than all that was another time in Ronnie Scott's when Dave Swift was playing in the opening band. Had a nice talk with him, and he let me play his Rob Allen fretless. A gentleman for sure.
impressive! Do comedy performances count? Well I started the thread so.. I did a stand-up routine at Charlie Chuck's comedy club ( Uncle Pete from Reeves and Mortimer) My very first comedy show, he talked to me for an hour before I went on. He spent most of the time being bitter towards other people who 'stole' his ideas ( Johnny Vegas "Monkey= Charlie Chuck "Donkey") and talked about his training to become a counselor. Would you visit this man if you had issues to discuss?!! I did enjoy his company and advice. http://youtu.be/Tr-lNUyuFWE
