1. not read all of the posts, but Lol Creme on guitar there?
2. ah, should have read the post title.... i was referring to the Marvin Gaye TT version.
3. The bass has been handed back to me via the pub where I last saw it(car park). it was found by a couple who are regulars there. They left their number with the pub, the number was misplaced, I call in yesterday on spec, a barmaid knew where they live, and the rest is history. Thank you one and all, and thank you bass for taking me back after such terrible neglect!
4. saw them at Leeds on Friday. My young son is a big fan, Grohl his hero and TH his favourite drummer. I'm not much of a fan, but an amazing performance by the FF. Hawkins was out of this world. So much energy!! Rufus Taylor did a great job guesting on drums playing Tie your Mother Down. What a song live!
5. Jaco.... I am sure any bass he picked up sounded the way he wanted it to. the feel/soul/fingers created most of the sound
6. I broke a string because i had to uses a plectrum for one song. I was playing close to the bridge with the song having continuous eighth notes. After about 10 gigs, the constant friction/movement on the saddle.......boing! went the string. I still don't know how to use a plectrum correctly.
7. I have just performed that song tonight. The guitarist actually made a comment afterwards about the choice of notes really colouring the song. It must be James Jamerson on the studio?
8. doobee-doobee! isn't it great when the musical bug finally get's to the kids!
9.
Just posted this on Facebook. Good luck with getting it back, it would be a shame to lose something so unique.
thanks. still no sign 11 days down the line.... that's life.
10. I put a Babicz on a Squier Jazz modified having watched vids on youtube. The difference............................... ??!!! I think if you want to hear your notes with more distinction, just dig in deeper.
11.
I wouldn't want that back... Only kidding lefty, hope you find it.
It may be fugly to some, but I took great pride in making it sound more expensive than it was
12. Did I note the serial number? Did I need to with custom artwork like that? hoho It surely is an aquired taste, and that taste is..........MINE! so give it back. It was my only fretless and I prefer playing fretless. But, it's more the fact that I was absent minded enough to lose it that way than not having it. BTW police said theu would contact me should it turn up. They will know it from my description, for sure
13. So I have managed to 'lose' my Warwick left-handed fretless rock bass. A pub car park at midnight, transfering bass equipment from a car trailer into my car, the bass was in a black gig bag......somehow managed to drive away thinking it was in my car after a 20 minute discussion.. Ridiculous, I know. It hasn't been handed in to the pub, or the police. I will check the local Crack Converter stores. So, somewhere in the Sunderland area, or maybe elswhere by now, my bass, which has distinctive artwork covering the front of the body,is probably useless to the person who has it. It is far too distinctive to be seen in public. It was only £179 new, but plays beautifully for such a cheap fretless. Any sightings, please let me know. Many thanks
14. Nah.....this isn't a good thread, sorry. If the were so bad they would be removed by the record company for the big selling albums they featured on. horses for courses.
15. I got a coach from Newcastle to London then a car journey to High Wycombe to try out a bass. It was going to be very special bass to me. There were no Wal basses in any stores in the North East, let alone a left handed fretless (unhear of!) but I had to try one as it was a lot of money I had save for the longest and hardest time. Wal himself picked me up. They had put together a makeshift left handed fretless for me to try.Made me feel so welcome, made me a cup of coffee, dropped me back in London centre. It was a very long journey, but it was indeed a very special day and wouldn't have missed it for the world. If you want an off-the-shelf bass, most places will take it back if you don't like. But sometimes, trying out away from the comfort of your sitting room can be part of a magical experience...
16.
What, not even the Squire Jazz? At least us left handers can play a bass upside down. Not a lot of choice really if we want to try something out.
I have played many basses upside down, including the strings. But...if I am paying up to £1,000 - I want a true lefty and I expect a bass to be of a very high standard and not have to think about adjusting the action/neck etc.
17.
. At least amps are ambidextrous. .
hhaha!
18. bah! just been to Newcastle Guitar Guitar. Not a single left handed bass in the store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So i pick up a few R/H P basses, American and Mexican.Look noce but ranged from average action to bloody awful. Upon enquiring about L/H availability, only 2 P basses in the whole company (Scotland to London) and if I put down a deposit to have one sent, found I didn't like it, the deposit would have to be transferred to something else in store. &*$%£"!!!!!! Certainly won't buy before I try after today's experience. Predictably disappointed
19. So if a Fender P bass is the absolute 'go to' bass.... Are they so great and trustworthy, and consistent, that you would happily purchase one new without trying it? I ask this as I am having trouble finding a used p bass that isn't more expensive than a used one.
20. Great bassist. I too can play with strings like that, but when it comes to the slap 'n' pull thing...??
21. Ooh no thanks.....a loooong way to send back if it doesn't feel right. Why do we lefty's have to suffer so!
22.
Lovely. I'd love to try one, in lefty flavour but it that colour, love it.
Me too. Available in lefty?
23.
I have a 5 basses and another on the way plus 3 upright basses and an EUB, clearly that's far too much for one guy to play but it's a hobby and I suppose some basses will never really lose their value so it's money in the bank in a way. Ironically when I was playing on a regular basis in the 80s and 90s I only had one bass, the EB Stingray and I could easily get away with having just that now but since I rarely got to the pub, or go out partying, have stopped riding motorbike and am not really into cars or anything else I don't think it's really a bad thing. Horse for courses and all that.
I see your point...... Well said! Why shouldn't it be a collecting thing. Some people obsess over cars, models, et etc.
24. Steinberger licensed Hohner B2A for sale. This little beauty is in amazing condition. no dings.Plays like a dream. Super fast neck. Catches the eye of the audience when you throw this little lady around your neck - and what a big sound! Recently tried a P bass live and it couldn't stand next to this headless! I had the plastic thumb rest fitted by our very own Bassdoc......wouldn't want to risk even the most basic of mods to myself! This can be easily removed - just a couple of screws. Only looking to sell to part finance a EUB, Not the end of the world if it doesn't go.....but would speed things along for me. Comes with a Steinberger Spirit soft case (not particularly padded I might add, but this bass finds snug and safe corners where other can't) Looking at £170 + pp....... How much? that's right.... only One Hundred and seventy pounds plus postage and packaging inbox me if interested cheers (more pictures upon request)
25.
If funds allowed I would have another bass no doubt but only to serve as a backup just in case, but it would still need to be different, so either another Sterling bass, or if one ever comes up a Warwick FNA. How do I get on with one bass? Fine, more than fine. I have a tool set and spare stirngs with me all the time, and if a string breaks during set, I can play without the string, no problems. I'm not jealous of other who do have more than one, becuase(for me anyway) I make the most out of that one bass, I don't need a P or a J for those sounds I can coax those out of my one bass with my fingers and some light EQ'ing, and after all the Audience doesn't really know anyway. I like the way I sound with the bass, and with anything else (that doesn't have that kind of pickup in the sweetspot atleast) I just can't get on with. In the future I'd like to be known for spanking the same plank since for ever aswell. But then having a backup just in case never hurts. Miss my sterling............
So true, we anorak ourselves to death over this bass, that bass, this pick-up, that pre-amp.......but in the mix? if it's providing low end, the audience won't notice. It's personal comfort zones we are talking about.I always say the hankering for a P bass is because we have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed.." It's what Jamerson used, etcetc so it's the only way to go". Although I still can't find a P bass that blows me away. Anyway, I digress.... Yes I too have snapped strings and got by. a bugger when it's the E and the bottom end lacks a bit, but hey, it's not life or death.
