1. Male 28 rock/metal player, I play 4 string basses slung low at the mo, but have dabbled in 5 and 6 string basses. I'm not in a band at the mo but recording some tunes with the aim of getting a band together and get some gigs in, I can play both fingerstyle and with a pick to the same degree but I prefer the tone I get from using a pick. I love playing riffs and doing melodic fills although the song comes first and foremost I only show some skills when there is space. Slap and tapping need work on as I'm cack at both :)

  2. I find that the more i drink the worse i play generaly but its not always the case. There have been a few gigs when me and the guitarist in my old band had a few to many and played out of our skins :) , there have been more than a few however where i've been a bit of a shambles at times due to too many beers

  3.
Well this took me by surprise! Everyone, this is a very nice preamp - someone buy it! I bought it ex-demo from The Bass Centre in 1999 and it's lived in my rack since then.

By the way I'm pretty sure both those valves are NOS 5751 not 12AX7 or 12AT7. Good valves though, specially selected by Jack Read, designer of the legendary (and very rare) Read Custom preamp. The original valve is a generic 12AX7.

    P.S. The VBA400 should rock!
Cheers Alex  the VBA400 certainly does rock, although its not mine yet for a few wks
I'm in no great hurry to sell this but i'll ebay it start of nxt wk if no takers on here as I cant justify having two amps (although i have to tell the voices i dont need to run a stereo set up :) ) Someone please grab a bargain

  4. Pablo, Mr (formerly pablocien)

    28 years old Scotsman

Been playing bass for 4 years after a 6 year break, incurable GAS but fortunately (or not) no funds to cure it, once regular gigger now reduced to travelling back and forth to London to record with fellow like minded individual. Most likely to be spotted frequenting many bars off different class in the search of the perfect pint. . . . . .

  5. Hey folks, I'm doing a wee bit of rig re-juggling as I have just been offered a marshall vba400 for peanuts and its too good an offer to refuse :) so last in first out means my SWR grand prix pre amp is for sale.

I just bought this the other month from our own Alexclaber who had it for a bit. Its in perfect working condition and pretty much perfect cosmetic condition with only a couple of small scratches on the top (it has been in a rack as long as alex had it and never been out my house since i got it) and I have the manual too, the valve has been changed to a nos jan 12at7wc but i'll include the original and a mullard 12ax7 as well.
    Here's Alex's sales pitch

  9.
That's wicked, by far the best colour for those. The switches scare me off though, what do they all do?
agreed on both counts Russ, would look better with a black scratchplate though :)

  10.
Get this!

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;#entry24353

£375 and you're sorted. Just use the combo most of the time - take the extension cab for louder gigs.

    Alex
+1 looks a bit of a bargain if you ask me :)

  11. I use EB power slinkys never had any probs with them, they stay brighter a little longer than roto's or ghs boomers that i used to use. not knocking those strings though i'd buy em in a second if i couldnt get my power slinkys :)
