Probably £70, tbh, i would not spend any more than that and i am the sole bread winner.....! The PJB’s are £70, the AKG’s are £50 ish
-
I put the pjb’s on the list and akg k240’s. But wondered if there were any other recommendations?
-
Hey all, My wife has decided to buy ne a decent pair of headphones for bass practice and listening to music on my commute, recommendations please!
-
Sir, you rock! Love you to share some pics and maybe a vid!
-
I love this!
-
I paid £50 for the Crown.....TBH, having a hard time parting with £200+ when the crown is fine aside the weight.
-
@Happy Jack - That looks like a great amp at 3kg.... I am considering options now on the Baby Sumo or the Devine (at least with the devine I get to use my rack bag and can get a rack tuner!) I think the Crown, as much as it is bloody good, will be up for sale.
-
Neither of them have a partner as beautiful as yours, or a car as cools as yours, or can drink the amount you can without passing out though....and they are definitely not as good in bed.... **Barstewards!

I looked at this...! Liked it! It is costly though!
-
Interesting point. The Crown is good.....and Chinese made. I looked at Icepower and Hypex basic amps - pcb + psu , used to power Aguilar and high end equipment, Chinese made and similar specs TBH and I could build one in a case for ~£200.

This is what I need to build. Our big car broke down and I had to use my wife's mini convertible - neither of my current cabs fitted, but 2 x 2x8 cabs could work with limited space....
-
Aha! Know of any 2x8 designs?
-
Does anyone know of someone who could validate/help design a cab? I have a builder, but need to validate my sonic engineering!

Based in Herts, but can meet / deliver around London and home counties/Herts Beds and Bucks. I also head to the South west and Herefordshire regularly. I can box up for posting, but you will need to organise your own courier. I am open to trades on 112 bass cabs. Epifani UL 212 - £350. Not £480! it is in near perfect condition and has a beautiful tone. Lovely deep lows and huge amounts of power. It can sit nicely between the vintage and the hifi sounds when on completely flat response on the EQ. I don't want to sell it, but it is far bigger and more powerful than I need, really needs to be gigged properly and played by a decent player! Pubs and so on won't do this sucker justice and neither will my limited capability. The Epifani is 4 ohms and 700 watts - front ported, weights ~23kg. Isn’t soundwave pressure...air?

So, I had a little time today and decided to see how my Ashdown 408 cab sounded ported. The easiest way to do this was to unscrew and remove the speaker input plate and leave it hanging out. So, as a 4x8 sealed cab using very middy TF0818 drivers, the bass is there, but farts out fairly easily - the mids are more pronounced and accurate as you would expect. The drivers only have an XMAX of 2.5mm..... Undo the speaker plate and a different journey begins The bass appears more pronounced and the mids die back. You can physically see the drivers really being pushed harder for the same input values and the cab farts out even easier on the low notes - I guess the driver is maxing its excursion. Not terribly scientific, but I certainly learned a thing or to in terms of my cab refurb!

Power Amp into Ampeg SCR-DI...? Or small Class D head?
gpw5150 replied to Misowaki's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use an ampeg SCR DI in that exact way. Gig Bass -> Ampeg SCR-DI -> Crown 402 power amp -> any of my cabs.... Home Bass -> Ampeg SCR-DI -> Headphones Bass -> Ampeg SCR-DI -> Studio Spares 60w digital power amp (60 watts/£45) -> TL806 cab Studio spares power amp :- https://www.studiospares.com/B-Stock/bstock/B-STOCK-Studiospares-Aktivate-85-Power-Amp-Unit_B-249180.htm?gclid=CjwKCAiAiarfBRASEiwAw1tYv0H-XSHw_I2D8oI8IZiZvpK3-NGbyANQASmToGpS96dVqTAlnNMFDhoCOAcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds -
Thanks for the info - Hertfordshire. My amp, bridged, will push 800 watts - i was just more conscious of spl and air shifting. There seems to be mixed feedback about the volume/projection. 12” driver cabs have been my ‘go to’
-
I have been offered a very good deal on a PJB C8, 4 ohm, 800 watt. I play in a pub rock n roll band - the usual hits - guitar driven. We are a 3 piece and not the loudest... Any users/reviews? Will it shove enough air? my thought is that it is an easy rig to transport and live with and i can easily add another C8 monster rig.... I use an ampeg scr-di preamp and crown xls 800 watt power amp. **regret selling my SWR Golight 112’s..

@Matt P TBH, I will probably flog the Boogie TL. I prefer to try and work the issue a bit and h cab I got was not bank breaking. I think that the SFE-200, tune the cab to 66Hz with 2 x ~7cm ports looks pretty good (Thick green line). £107 for the drivers and a couple of quid for port tubes. Looks like it will even be an upgrade sealed to (Red Line). The thin green and thin blue are the TF0818's - which I can sell on.
-
In other news, I have a boogie TL806 cab with an evm12L loaded in it. Useless for bass, but if I block a port it should lower the cab rsonance down to ~50hz. I then need a good 12” bass driver that works in that cab! Any thoughts?
-
Good point, but i can re-speaker this cab for £100...and the size/weight is fine...
