Many of the basses they manufacture are rebadged as Lakland, Fender etc.
Do you know I was told this on Saturday when trying out a Cort acoustic bass!!!!

I gave up with 'em after repeated calls and no answer. I ended up using Hot Covers from the wilds of Scotland, they were fantastic....!
If it's only £18 on £850 I'd say do the gentlemanly thing and split it, after all it's no one's fault.

£18 out in an £850 deal? Forget the money and get on with it mate. If you cancel the deal on that basis now, you might end up having to accept £800 or less for it in a month's time anyway! C
Somewhere between here lies the answer imo
Several of the DB'ers on BC seem to have multiple pickups in their armamentarium (good word that) so I would start an Items Wanted search on BassChat before looking externally as you'll probably pick up something at a decent price. My Shadow would have been £140 new (a Realist is £175 new, BTW) so I saved nearly 40% by buying s/h. Not so sure you would get a Fishman Platinum though as they are rarely sold and when they do come up FS they seem to disappear faster than a whippet.
I have a twichy trigger finger. The Fishman Platinum is £140 and the Shadow 950 is £106 from Thomann and free shipping which if I just bought the Fishman would be £10. Hmmmm "Step away from Thomann, there's nothing to see here!"
My setup seems to work but there's tons of other BC'ers with direct DB gigging experience so I would await their replies too. I know BurritoBass uses an Underwood direct to PA, usually, and jakesbass uses a David Gage Realist (the one that fits under the feet of the bridge). There's lots of different views on pickups (and mikes too). Most seem to like the Fishman Platinum Pro-EQ preamp though.
Yeah no worries, search has started but will wait a while to see what comes up in the s/h market etc. and do some pricing up.
As i couldn't find a s/h one, I got a new Fishman Platinum from Thomann for £139 http://www.thomann.de/gb/fishman_proeq_platinum_bass.htm and a s/h Shadow SH950 pickup on BassChat for £100 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...3&hl=Shadow
Cheers Clarky. Guessed you'd bought the one off here, just saw the post in the For Sale Section.....! I think my search begins
My 2p. Get piezo pickups that sit in the bridge wings (Underwood or Shadow) so can easily be installed or removed if necessary. Then a Fishman Platinum Pro preamp (which you can use to cut out the feedback and shapes the sound). Bingo! Thats what I have, into a MarkBass CMD121P combo. To be fair I haven't gigged it yet (and will not do any time soon due to left hand accident) but BC DB-er supreme, jakesbass, has had a play around on my DB and rig and seemed to think it would do the trick.
I'm pretty sure the Fishman preamp was what Jake showed me when I was demonstrating my complete and utter lack of skill on the thing!! Which pickups you using and how much did you pay for all this little lot (not amp). Cheers
Got a budget in mind, as this will determine your options? The more money you, have the more options.
Well I'm sort of assuming £100 for DI box and the same for a pickup/mic
I always give mine a gentle wipe off with a paper towel ( fnar fnar oo-er etc etc ) They sometimes look quite dull when they come out of the tube, almost tarnished... Hasn't stopped the improvement in sound for me ever though, dont expect them to sound exactly like new, rather they sound just 'broken in' as it were.
Mine still have the rusty looking spots on them in places, tube shaking sounds a great idea, any excuse to get to the garage!! but I'm going to put them back on just to see how they sound after one more micro soak.....

I'm about to kick off an acoustic side project where the DB will get it's first outing in a live situation. I'm following Chris' thread with some trepadation as I'm getting mighty confused. So please keep simple for a dullard. I will need a 'simple/as cheap as poss' way of boosting the DB sound. Now when I spent some time with Jake, he mentioned a DI unit, with a pickups that sits under the bridge which makes sense to my simple brain So my questions bearing in mind going into a Genz Benz Combo, or in to the PA. 1. Recommendations for pickups 2. Recommendations for DI units 3. Will mic into a DI unit work? if so recommendations 4. How to manage feedback situations Appreaciate the thoughts of both experienced and newbie db players, but need this almost Jack and Jill level. Many thanks
I wouldn't have wiped them as that is more crap on the strings... but put them on and see how they sound..that is the real benchmark. You are trying to get rid of the gunk in between the winds of the string, not so much to make them look newer. You are basically trying to flush out the impurities left from sweat and dirt etc .. Let us know what they SOUND like.
Aha, ok will do thanks. I was sort of expecting pristine looking strings aswell, I'll prob resoak for a couple of hours then let them dry off again. That's me, shallow as a puddle, always going by appearance!!
Tube constructed today and Strings soaking in the garage. Even put a plastic pipe bracket on the wall to hold the thing in place. Massive DIY project for me...!
Can some expert please put me out of my misery. Strings soaking for 24 hours...........careful removal..........they still look dirty, even after a wipe with a paper towel. Surely even I couldn't have screwed this up.....anyone?

Not quite on the sofa, but with my DIY skills they could be very soon Sorry for the crap pic from my mobile!!
Thank all for the good wishes Update: I managed a 3-hour rehearsal with the new band this afternoon using an electric bass (my lovely new Fender Pino, yummy) and two fingers! Took some forethought for several tracks but it was do-able and I even got commended at the end for "holding the band together". So I passed the test and now I can rest the hand for a few days. And another first, I did the rehearsal finger-style, having previously been a pick only player. Just that short time playing DB has obviously increased my right hand strength significantly (no lewd comments!).
Good news about the practice, never indoubt!!! Shame about GnR, never did like 'em tbh.
Just been to a pretty experienced audiologist to get fitted with plugs, and he really wanted me to go 25s. He did say that he'd get the filters changed if it was a prob, but said his experience with players was that 25s didn't cause problems cos it's a filter not a plug. I see the logic, but i'm swithering. i hate to ignore professional advice I'm paying for
Be interested to hear what you end up with!!

As it says on the tin, brand new, fitted once then the songs I needed it for were droped from our setlist. Boxed, all parts and fitting instructions. Drops the E String to a D (even poss a C) at the flick of a lever. "Retrofits Gotoh GB7 tuning machines. Fits many Gibson, Ibanez, Yamaha, Epiphone, Peavey, Modulus, Schecter, and Warick bass guitars." from Hipshot website. £45 posted Cheers
When I called ACS to discuss their ER plugs they recommended the ER15's for general band use and the ER25's for Metal drummers and the like. How loud are you and your bands? I haven't exceeded the limit of my ER15's yet, even in some pretty loud bands. Anyone out there use ER25's on a regular basis? Can you still hear quiet count ins?
We play at about circa 90db, as measured in an amateurish way, so I guess were an averagely loud pub band. We're a three piece and drums and bass are defo the loudist. Reading on here most seem to have the 15's so I'm erring on this side tbh.
