Right no prob man . I've seen it on other peoples posts saying that even though its trade only so they know what sort of price range the bass is within so they can offer basses for trade within that range.
Cheers chaps, It really depends on what people stump up, but I'm guessing the cash balance would be in the range of £300-400 without overly committing myself.

Yes I know I already have a T-Bird, but the Ricky is just not getting any use whatsoever. Had since new, bought in the US, only thing done to it (apart from pro setup) is removal of the Bridge Pickup cover, which I still have. Typical Ricky sound etc, just not for me. Now this puppy does have a sentimental value, but I'd quite like a T-Bird in black with cash coming my way......!!!! This is in great condition, couple of minor dings, but nothing significant. These pics were taken before the p/u cover was removed. Any queries, ask away!

Well here (no pun) we go. Appointment booked for the 27th to take a looksee at the ACS range of ear protectors. Consultant chappy is suggesting the ER25's, I'm just a tadge worried it'll block out too much and wonder whether the ER15's are more suitable, but I guess I will find out soon enough. I'll have one ear defender and one in ear monitor, so we'll see how that goes!!!! Anyway my future hearing thanks everyone who has contributed to this thread!!!!
Phil Wilkins, tenor/sop is the only ex LCM I've played with and he is very good inded. Could it be that the OP's disappointment is down to the musicians' initial lack of band experience on graduation. Phil was a bit like this initially but it took him no time at all to get up to speed.
Let's see if the OP's posts remain in the same vein after a good night's 'sleep' !!!!!!
Bad move dude - these are the ones I use and they are absolutely the mutts nuts... They are a bit pricing but the quality of the filters is simply amazing, all the clarity and quality of 'natural' sound - without any of the ear-f***ing frequencies - a very sound investment indeed. M
Do you have HF's or ER's looking at the blurb ER's look more suitable for Music situations? Thanks for your input on this thread, I'm seriously considering this and these could be my next purchase!!!

Love to mate but....... I'm gigging in Basingstoke (yeah baby!) It's way past my bedtime I'd get lynched by the Cockernies for being a yokle And you can't even be arsed to play the DB (broken fingers pah!) I will make the effort at some stage though!
6-7th fret is pretty much the middle of the neck affected by the truss rod, might just be a back bow and sorted by a truss rod tweak. A shim is a thin piece of material but between two pieces as a spacer.
Cheers, thought about the truss, so have decided to go for a full set up tomorrow, that'll sort the fella out. many thanks though!!! -
Happy Jack has just kindly offered to lend me my old Precision fretless for Sunday so I am sorted - at least on the bass front! I shall not be practising on a bass until probably Saturday so that the immediate swelling can go down. Well this is not how I expected Wenesday to pan out! Unfortunately I have to take a client to Guns n Roses tonight at the O2 and they are standing tickets too. Expect me right at the back, away from any mosh pit ...
So to end off a really crap day, you've to go to a GnR gig, mate I'm truely sorry for you !
Thanks mate! I have - by spooky coincidence - just asked the owner of my old fretless Precision if I can borrow it for this weekend's rehearsal as the action on that is lower than a low thing.
Jazz here if required, hopefully situation looks like it's improving!
Hi mate, I've left a message for the frontman/leader and offered him either me on electric bass for the short term or a dep on DB. I reckon I can blag it on my Precision as the bass lines are generally very simple and I can make a lot of use of open notes, plus the action on my Precision is very low. DB is obviously out for me for a few weeks Will keep you posted

Bugger! Hope you find a suitable workaround. Would fretless bass be an option, you did say the bass lines were straight forward??
Ah, if either of us had a great mind, I'd say something profound........ PS I have a drefretted Jazz you could use if of use!
Bad news. X-rays showed broken bone in hand and minor fracture of ring finger. I have ring and middle fingers taped together and a hand splint. F************************CK
Bugger! Hope you find a suitable workaround. Would fretless bass be an option, you did say the bass lines were straight forward??

Gutted for you mate, I knackered a joint after falling on a finger playing football, and the finger was extremely painful for a good few weeks. If you make the gig you'll acheive hero status in my book, think it'll be tough though. Fingers are tricky buggers, still can't make a proper fist 15 years on!!! Good luck though mate and hope you make it!!
Battery life seems really good on both, prob because they turn off after a couple of minutes of no vibration so no accidental leaving them on for the week. I think alot of modern tuners have this kind of circuit.
Yeah mine does as well, which I though was a good failsafe, I wonder if there's a fault with mine because it's only had very little usage. Must get around to checking it out!!

I got one, think it's a Warwick or something like that (I'll double check). Works well apart from it chews up the disc type batteries, already on my second in under a year and I've barely used it. As a concept it's really good!!!
Just curious to see what everyone's gig is, seems to be a lot of covers and tribute players on the forums. What say you?
All covers !

I've just booked some 30 min lessons to try and finally crack music theory, the aim being to be able to sight read in due course. I've even found somewhere that I can nip out to of a lunchtime, so I get a lunch break aswell, bliss. So I'm following the Bilbo path, although I suspect Jazz appreciation will not be happening!!!

Hipshot detuners for Gibson Thunderbird
Those are tension changes, which also change the tuning. Need to find what it is buzzing on. Sure it isn't part of the mechanism that is moving? You can crudely test the nut raise hypothesis by putting a piece of thin plastic under the string in the nut slot. If you nut is loose, can put a shim under one end of the nut.
I'm pretty sure it's the neck around 5th - 7th fret is worse, I'll try the plastic test tomorrow. What's a shim?? many thanks btw!! -
String buzz won't be to do with the tuner post, since hte nut determines the height. Is it just buzzing when detuned? Might need to raise your nut or replace it, if you are using the same strings. Going Graphtec is good because the string can slide through easily.
Cheers It's buzzing on the E tuning as much as the D. With the old posts the sting is pulled down to the bottom of the post, so is getting taut and seems to stop the buzz. With the hipshot, I'm only getting a couple of turns around the post and it doesn't seem to get as taut after the nut. If I depress the string after the nut, ie press it down, the buzz improves. Raising the nut may well be the answer. -

Works fine although I'm now suffering from Fret Buzz, I think due to the shorter Tuner post. I've reduced the string length as much as I dare, which has helped a bit but it's still not great? Anyone with any experience of installing these had the same problem, and more importantly come up with a solution?? Do not generally do my own set ups, so please keep this as simple as poss. Cheers -
Have you considered doing jazz reworkings of rock and pop standards? Hayseed Dixie made a good living off hillbilly tributes of well known classics, it would give you some creative input doing the arrangements. I know there have been recorded swing versions of rock stuff by the likes of Paul Anka and Pat Boone but you don't see it in pubs and clubs, might be a niche to exploit?
niche to exploit? Nah not really, I'm already purposely throwing in bum notes which give the same effect

Would you trust your bass in the hold on a plane?
farmer61 replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Have taken basses with me on planes before, loosen the strings, do not lock the case, (like the idea of gaffa tape over them) and I'm sure you'll be fine. Just double check your travel insurance....! Cheers
