Hi All, We;re playing the Thornhill Arms in Stanningley, Leeds on Saturday April 18th at 9:30pm - our fee will be going to charity. I don't know what else the pub itself has planned, but we will be "giving it some welly" and doing our best to raise much needed funds for a great cause. Fancy dress for the bassist may be on the cards... Please spread the word to anyone that might be interested in going/coming. thanks for reading, Jon
Great cause, my father is getting help from Macmillan, really hope it goes well for you. Shame too far otherwise I'd be along like a shot.
  2. I am the IT guy (inaddition to HR, Finance, Janitor etc), so if I can't get access I only have myself to blame.
  3. Shame not a bit more local would have loved the opportunity for some professional tuition
  4.
Depends on what you can spend, as with everything! Money no object the Sennheiser Sk5212 transmitter with a 5000 series receiver. More realistically the Sennheiser G2 or G3 system. I use a cable all the time and don't think I'd bother with a wireless system though. JTB
Can you link to your earlier posts, they are really useful!
  5.
I'm reading some threads here...didn't know that, still funny though. frequency license!
Only for certain frequencies, buy in the UK and you should be fine!
  6. I use a Shure SLX system, I think it's fantastic, however make sure you get one that can be used legally (license wise) in the UK. There are some really good pinned posts on this topic some where!
  7. Welcome, this is a great forum, loads of real experts who know their stuff (I'm not one of 'em) who will offer great advice. Enjoy.......as for a laugh, get on to the political posts, they're a riot ( getting coat)
  8.
To answer the OP's question... no. Not at the moment. Mortgage, Family, etc.
Becasue of the above absolutely !
  9.
Resurrection time, only just spotted this again Some possible venues for you:
Cheers J, really good list here and some strong possibilities. I'll get the list over to our chief gig booker to get some groundwork done. Particularly like the sound of the venue that Mrs Deaver doesn't like you going in!!! got to be first on the list Many thanks for the help.
  10.
In my own personal experience, a cheap electric bass is much better than a cheap electroacoustic. But then again, the electroacoustic does really look the part, cheap or not. Either way, you can go straight through the PA if you want. Alternately you can pick up a amp modeller simulator like the original Line 6 Bass Pod for peanuts.
+1, the acoustics look great, but once plugged in don't sound that much better and are a bit of a pain to play if you're used to a standard bass. IMO get an electric bass and put through a bass DI like a Tech 21 Sansamp through to the PA. ps had a Takamine Acoustic but was not loud enough unplugged and you needed 6 ft arms to play it!
  11.
When I grow up I want to be Tony Levin. And I want my boss to be Peter Gabriel.
+1 Me too, PG & TL are gods in my eyes.....pl
  12.
Blu-tak
Back pocket between songs, if I need it during a song "good old spit" and just put it on the scratch plate / body, it holds long enough for a couple of songs.
  13.
It's a whole thread by itself, "what covers did you think would be a dead cert but went down like a lead balloon?". Anything by the Arctic Monkeys is my bitter experience
Nope, Fake Tales always seems to go down a storm ... it is a great track mind you!
  14. Variety of covers works well, some loud, some acoustic, some old and some new. Trick is to try and please most of the punters in, they like your stuff, they stay and the pub is happy. Quote from one landlord, you ain't the best musicians but the punters stay around.... Plus we find that playing stuff that people know and can tap feet/sing along to works best. That obscure Nirvana track that you think is great that no-one else has heard is like playing originals to the wrong auidence. Most weekend punters just want to get pissed and sing. PA for vocals and any acoustics bits plus drums where needed, backline for Bass and Guit's. We've played large corporate gigs with this set up....works ok. Most pubs we play will pay about £175 - 250 until you get a reputation in which case they'll go a bit higher. Sounds great I'm about to join a second covers band, not an original song in my body I'm afraid. Good luck with it!

    hello

Welcome on board, I had a Marlin Slammer when I started to play bass for the second time! happy days!
  16.
I use a TU-2. Never let me down yet. Very accurate.
+1
  17. Hmmm, wouldn't want to discourage the missus from using it though!
  18. The new project I'm about to join are using in ear monitors. I guess they're wireless, We use a Peavey PA, how would these monitors typically connect to the PA? Thanks
  19.
Now we're all entitled to our opinions. I did clearly ask for urgent advice and can't see where advice on my needs was requested although my post was light hearted as generally is my nature. As for moaning? My sarcastic remark was because having specifically asked for help and saying that I was on my phone the 1st respondant wasn't at all helpful and just passed unsolicited judgement on what I have and therefore my needs. Wtf?
But a slight over reaction on your part?
  20. April Fool perhaps?
  21. So take me through the Hysteria bass line, I've got to learn it, it seems mighty tough!
  22.
Tell him you're putting what you have up, if he wants to spend more of his own time and money redoing parts he's welcome to, next time he should get his stuff down before going into the studio though.
+1 Means you're not waiting too much time to get Mr Perfect's parts.....well perfect, and you can start booking gigs!
  23. nah not for me I'm afraid, I'd look more stupid playing this than I normally do!
  24.
Short answer: I never lend gear.
+1 did it once and pooped me pants as I had a gig the next day and wasn't sure if I'd 1) get it back and 2) it would work!
  25. I remember this point as well, was in 2002 when I Finally got a proper bass (imo) a Fender Jazz Mex as opposed to all the cheaper basses I owned in the past. That bass helped give me the confidence to go and gig.
