I have always played it slapped. The original sounds like it was slapped to me on a bass with pretty dead strings with that nice hollow tone.
So I definitely wont be able to play it then
Major mental breakthrough for me last night as we played carwash for the first time. I think I missed a few notes in the fancy run a few times but in general I was pleased that I had committed to doing it as 6 months ago I would never have dreamt that I could play it. This forum has really got me fired up again with my bass playing and is a constant source of fun and inspiration so a big thank you to you all
Very impressive. It's one song that I just can't perfect. That hook at the end of each chorus always does me in. I can't figure out if it's slapped or tapped or just played fingerstyle and no matter how many times I practise it I still cant get it right.

would any of you use a tutor who doesn't even own a bass?
DirkThrust replied to Inca's topic in General Discussion
+1 to all of the above. Dump that idiot as soon as you can. I started having lessons at 43 and my teacher was a graduate of the Bass Institute. He charged £20 per hour to come to me and the lessons lasted more like 1.5 hours. He brought his own laptop with all the relevant teaching software and left me with a pile of pre-prepared notes and homework every week. As for your hands being too small, that is just utter bollocks. These guys sound like failed guitards who think they can teach bass because it's easy. How can he possibly teach you to improve your technique without a bass of his own. A good proportion of the tutoring should be for him to demonstate on his bass what you need to do. -

Another ex Pompey dweller. I was in Stamshaw for 16 years but moved just because I got so sick of not being able to park when I got home from work. I only managed to escape as far as Waterlooville though. Belated welcome to BC mush

Running Little Mark II into wrong (impedance) cabs in series
DirkThrust replied to mintybassman's topic in Amps and Cabs
Unfortunately your options are fairly limited. You can't rewire your cabs to alter the impedance and changing the drivers is not really cost effective. You'd probably spend more on drivers than the cabs are worth. In your position I'd save the money and put it towards some new cabs. I owned the same pair of cabs and while they are good sounding cabs, these days there are much lighter and better sounding alternatives around. Have a look in the classifieds on here. -

That's pretty good -
I agree with the sparse voice for reason. The choice to introduce will tell me more than an introduction ever could.
+1 You've got it absolutely right
-
+1. I agree that people should use the intro section before selling stuff but I don't think it's possible to make rules about it. If someone hasn't got the good manners to introduce themselves before selling stuff then compelling them to do doesn't make them any more polite or less likely to rip anyone else off. I think members can make their own minds up whether to buy off a total stranger. In my experience it makes me less inclined to buy off someone if they are using this forum as an alternative to freeads. Like the geezer who joined a couple of days ago and whose first three posts are trying to flog his Eden cab in three different threads

Try doing a search on here. There are several listed in the Bristol area. http://www.partysounds.co.uk/

Does anyone know where i can find...
DirkThrust replied to Harrythebassdawg's topic in Amps and Cabs
Have you seen the ex-hire one on evilbay at the moment. £250, although that may may qualify as well enough battered to look out of place next to your other one -
Hi there Slap me someone for my thoughtless lack of etiquette. Here I go trawling the posts on this marvellous forum and then posting something for sale without introducing myself. Apologies to all.
Don't worry. You're forgiven Welcome to BC
-
Hello, welcome to BC. I'm sure the BC official greeters will be along any minute Playing the bass will certainly give you a different perspective when you actually get to play with a drummer. I've played with dozens and found that no 2 are the same. It makes life interesting if nothing else
-
That's very pricey. Most likely a case of the shop jumping on the "vintage" bandwagon.
-
I've had worse service, although I'm not gonna mention any names. I sent a faulty cab back 5 times before they finally fixed it . When I complained directly to the manufacturer they sorted out the problem faster then the speed of light. I would write a letter of complaint to Peavey. Try and find out the name of someone high up at Peavey UK and write direct to him (or her). You've suffered an unreasonable amount of aggro and also you shouldn't settle for a few token freebies.

Bassist available South Hants or Singer wanted
DirkThrust replied to DirkThrust's topic in Musicians Wanted
We are currently bass, drums, keyboards and guitar and are looking for a M/F singer to do soul/funk/Motown or anything that would fit a band of that type. Otis Redding, S & D, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and all the rest. -
He's got some very nice looking Jap reissue Jazzes for sale. Has anyone ever dealt with this seller?
minus the flares and freaky shirts
But that's the best part of doing a Purple Tribute
-
I too would sell my soul for that gig. Burn and Stormbringer off the Made in Europe album are two of the best rock songs and performances of all time. We used to do Child in Time and Highway Star but the singer couldn't hit the high notes and the Keyboard player always fluffed the keyboard breaks in Highway Star. Smoke on the water was always a reliable old crowd pleaser though. A deep Purple tribute would be my number 1 gig. I think getting a singer would be the difficult part, especially the Purple Mk 3 lineup and who would do those Glenn Hughes parts.

TO GO: Rotosound Swingbass nickels**GONE
DirkThrust replied to DirkThrust's topic in Completed Items

I've got a set of slightly used 45 - 105 Rotosounds. I put them on my bass and didn't like them so took them straight back off again, so they are pretty much as new. They've been cut to length for a through body Precision.
