Not sure you should condemn a whole shop on the basis of one unhelpful bloke and a badly set-up guitar.
OK you carry on not being sure. I'm not going in there again.

Yeah +1 for Stringbusters. Excellent service. I wouldn't use anyone else

Yeah that attitude seems familiar. The whole lot of them don't seem to give a toss. I'm with chris_b on something like this. I'm a vindictive shopper too. I'll never set foot in the place again.

Thanks Adee, I've given him a ring and waiting to hear back.
I don't see the attraction of the new new American series APART from the OW colour. I think they're pretty much a waste of money, and would prefer to go through the trouble of getting a Jap version in OW which would be cheaper and probably sound and play better as well and much better build quality.
Yes the colour is the main reason I want one. I was never too keen on the last lot of Fender colours and I really like the OW tortie combination. I have considered buying a Jap one but it comes back to the same argument, that I would rather buy from a local or localish shop. Unfortunately it's shops like Andertons that make mail order seem like a good option.

Welcome to BC Dan. So whereabouts from down south are you?
Does it begin with 'A' by any chance? not the first time i've heard this sort of story, a friend bought a PRS custom guitar from there and had to get it set up somewhere else, very annoying, it took him 5 years to save for that guitar!
Ha. I don't know of any other music shops in Guildford :-)
Paul Martin, are you talking about the "New Fender standard" range by any chance, as they have the olympic white with tort guard that you speak of. I have to say, the colour choices aren't great. They've dumped the butterscotch one, which i quite liked on a P. But then i guess that's what defines it as part of the previous model/batch. If a shop guitar isn't set up right, it won't feel right to me and therefore i won't buy it. It's that simple. Out of interest, have you seen the vid on the Fender site as part of the new fender standard range? It's a bit cheesy ^_^ see here
Yes the new range that's just come out, without the useless S1 thing. They've re-introduced OW, which made me very pleased. They are still pretty rare over here though, most shops still seem to have the old stock. I'll have a look at that vid when I get home.

Welcome to Basschat Julien. I'm a funk fan as well but trying to find other musicians to play with is next to impossible where I live.

Welcome to Basschat and to the UK Qvadratt. I've had a look at your homegrown forum but unfortunately my schoolboy French isn't really up to it :-)
may be daft but couldn't bigger shops order exactly what you want? May be a wee wait but it costs them no more than just selling stock they have...?
On several occasions in the past I've tried to do just that with my local shop, which is Nevada in Portsmouth, but they always seem unwilling to get anything in specially, so I've always ended up driving halfway across the country to find something. I'm a big believer in buying locally, not just so it's easy to take it back if something goes wrong but because I like to browse around shops and try stuff and I wouldn't like to see all shops go the way of The Bass Centre, and I'm willing to pay a higher price if I can get it locally, but at the moment I feel like just ordering it from Thomann or Soundslive. At least I won't have to put up with being patronised by spotty herberts who weren't even born when I started playing.
I doubt they did. It will have gone through a fair bit of trauma, leaving the factory, being in storage before making a trip across the atlantic, being put into storage again, before hanging in a dry, centrally heated shop for god-knows how long. It probably just needed a tweak to the truss rod, which should have been spotted by the shop workers.
You are probably right. You hear a lot of criticism of Fender's quality control, but I usually make a beeline for the Fenders in an y musicshop and I've always found them to be pretty good

Since Fender re-introduced the Olympic white + tortoiseshell on a PPrecision I've been GASing for one. I finally tracked one down at a well know retailer in Guildford so today I drove 45 miles with £800 burning a hole in my pocket intending to buy it. Unfortunately when I finally had it in my sweaty mitts, it was absolutely unplayable. The action was a mile high and i don't know what the hell was wrong with the neck but it looked like it had a forward bow at the body end. So a 90 mile round trip for nothing. I'm amazed that first of all Fender let it leave the factory in that state and secondly that the numptys in the shop either don't bother checking it before putting it out or they just don't care. Judging by the patronising couldn't care less attitude of the shop oik I showed it to I expect it's the latter. OTOH I was in Fret Music in Southampton on Saturday and played a couple of Precisions there. They were two of the best set up basses I've ever encountered and virtually played themselves. Unfortunately they didn't have the colour I wanted but top marks for unpatronising, helpful staff. I know who'll be getting my business in future. So does anyone know the whereabouts of a American standard P in Olympic white with a rosewood board?

This is my 62 Re-issue Jazz. I've had this for about 10 months. Bought at GAK for £1150. It's in absolutely mint condition with all the bits it comes with. The bridge cover has never been fitted so no holes in the paintwork. At the moment it's fitted with D'addario rounds if I remember correctly but I will also include a set of Thomastik Infeld Jazz flats, which go for about £30 in the shops. I'm in south Hampshire and collection is preferred but I can deliver if you pay my fuel costs of 10p per mile. I'd rather not post but I will if that's the only option. I'm looking for £750 no offers. Reason for sale? I'd rather have a Precision and I can't really justify owning both
I was thinking that. I wouldn't say that Laklands are well known, because they don't make guitars. And the general public LOVE guitars, not basses.
Most of "The General Public" don't know the difference between a guitar and a bass

Don't worry it's not a stupid question. So if the internal speaker of the MB is 8 ohms the amp will put out a maximum of 300 watts into just the internal speaker. Add the Ashdown then the combo amp is connected to two 8 ohm speakers in parallel, so it will see a nominal load of 4 ohms and deliver a maximum of 250 watts to each. Even though the Ashdown is only rated at 200 watts it should be fine.

35,000 years old? and only $2,850? Bargain. I'll have a couple
-
The above pricing seems to be based on using the Eminence Deltalite drivers which are the lightweight and therefore expensive option. I used common-or-garden Beta 10s which only cost me £35 each from Blue Aran. I agree though that the sundries and delivery charges are the killer. A sheet of speaker grill from CPC cost me £24 inc delivery but I got an Omni10 and two Omni10.5s out of it. I seemed to be forever going to B&Q to get something else that I had forgotten. The sheer number of different screws, glue, sealant, paint rollers, cable ties, wood filler, sand paper, rubber feet , corners, connectors & plate is astonishing and soon adds up to a considerable sum if you're not geared up to do this kind of DIY. The experienced builders would probably know exactly what to order and would get it in a job lot from somewhere like Screwfix, which would be considerably cheaper. When you're having to buy everything bit by bit as you need it then it is very expensive. Having said that I reckon I built my O10.5s for about £100 each and considering that any good quality 1x10 or 1x12 is going to be £300+ and probably considerably inferior in performance, the BFMs still work out as a real bargain Presoulnation, if you decide to go the BFM route then have a look on FinnBass. THere are shedloads of build threads on there and parts lists and lists of suppliers.

Yeah farting = bad Don't pay too much attention to power ratings. You're gonna be better off putting 150watts each into the Hartke and the internal Trace speaker than you are trying to be heard by driving the Trace too hard on it's own.
-
Why don't you use your Trace combo with the Hartke 2x10 as an extension cab? I'm assuming that the internal speaker in the Trace is 8 ohms and that the Hartke is 8 ohms so thery would both be getting 150watts from the head in the combo which shouldn't cause any harm.

Sceptical about this - Squier Jazz
Actually the neck does look really short to me. It's not even the length of the body. Come to think of it the headstock is incredibly tiny too.
Wrong. It's an oversized body -
Short Neck?? Wha?? looks normal to me.
Yeah me too. 23" from the nut to where the neck meets the body is normal. I think he's just a dozy plonker -
I agree with the previous posts. It was a great addition to the Jazz, giving a really useable extra sound, but absolutely useless on the Precision.
I have joined on here to ask advice on new basses and equipment as the beauty of this hobby is i find i never stop learning. Well once again hello everyone.
Welcome to the forum The main thing you'll learn on here is that there are just too many desirable basses and amps and never enough money in your bank account :-)
