*£140 INCL.SHIPPING TO UK* Today, I have for sale a Yamaha 112V (Natural Finish) in great condition. No major dings or scrapes. The only minor issue is that the tone knob is missing, but you can easily find a replacement for pennies. Whammy bar, instruction manual etc included.
No problem, cool. Just to reiterate, to all beware of "joinabanditis". Only entertain opportunities that are a match for you personally. Blue
I agree with you there Blue. Trying to fit a square peg in a round hole isn't the wisest option. Personally, I'm in a situation with my originals band where we all have an equal, democratic say, but the final call is often made by the guitar player or myself. We're all aware of the direction we'd heading in, and any disagreements are sorted out in the rehearsal room before they become real issues. My point is that, to reiterate what Blue said, if you're not the 'right' person for the job (ability + personality + all the other stuff), then it's going to be a lot less fun and beneficial.

I like that bass solo - very Cliff Burton-esque to have that in there. Personally if I was arranging it for two guitars, here's what I'd do: I'd have the second guitar harmonise with the first section of the bass solo (the slower part) Then have the bass play the faster tapping section on its own, but have the second guitar underneath with a more bouncy type rhythm like you have in the LE-PO-RE-LO part.

I love my basses but a bit of honest wear and tear is fine by me. I'd never buy anything actively relic'd, but I like the idea of minor damage if there's a story behind it. I'm not a fan of things that are beaten up because it looks cool - it seems to be the fashion really (ie. pubs which are opened with 'pub wear' already present).

Which part of your setup bass, amp, cab etc do you prioritize
progben replied to Twincam's topic in General Discussion
Before this week, I'd have said my bass, but I had the misfortune of playing through the most horrendous cab ever a couple of days ago. It was a Laney 4×10 and I couldn't get a good sound out of it for toffee. Zero depth. So yes, the answer for me is cab. -
I own a Warwick Dolphin Pro II and despite not having a tonne of experience with high-end Warwicks, it does definitely sound like a Warwick (as confirmed by several, more knowledgeable friends) Different to the usual Warwick's, it has a thin ash body & maple neck (so IMO the wood isn't the main contributor here). It does however use the same 3D bridge, brass frets, nut, wenge fingerboard MEC pups and pickup placement (bridge p-up way back) of many of their higher end instruments. I'd be inclined to say it's mostly the placement of the pickups (rather than the type) which makes the most difference.

Les Claypool without a doubt. Sailing the Seas of Cheese. Also that riff at the start of Megadeth's Peace Sells was always a highlight for me.

Refurbishing a bass to sell. Is it worth it or just sell as it is?
progben replied to Painy's topic in Bass Guitars
A lot of people quite enjoy restoring basses so price fairly and sell as is, would be my suggestion. I imagine it'd be more tempting to someone as a 'diamond in the rough' than in better, refurbed condition! -
I'd recommend David Mitson. He's worked with a lot of big names including Michael Jackson, Santana, Alice in Chains etc. Charges us £60 for a 4 track EP

Personally I love Lars - for all his flaws he's absolutely vital to the band (drummer and as a personality). For me Cliff is largely the same. Jason and Rob are probably "better" bass players, in the same way that most drummers are better than Lars, but he was the right guy, IMO. People also sometimes forget that Cliff also wrote a lot and was instrumental in making albums like Ride and Puppets as good as they are. His knowledge of theory and experimental nature also contrasted well with the more 'sturm und drang' nature of Lars/James.

My main bass is a Warwick Dolphin Pro II and can't recommend them enough. Light, ergonomic, thin neck, massive growl and a solid range of tones. They're about £500 used and very much worth trying out imo

Played guitar on and off for years, moved to 8 string because I loved the low end, switched to bass when my best friend/guitarist started a band and wanted me to be the bassist. The first time I ever played a bass (my friend's dad's old Aria) was at our first band practice. We wrote 2 songs and jammed Crucified (Agnostic Front). I bought a TRBX304 about 2 weeks after that and played my first gig on bass within a month. Recorded our first EP shortly after that. After that, I started isolating the bass lines in songs I loved and figuring out why they worked. I dont know many covers though, I much prefer writing lines and learning through trial and error (mostly error)

Like a kid after one too many blue smarties.

Personally I just approach the bass as an extension of myself and so don't really worry about how "good" I am. I'm not really a conventional player and am more interested in experimenting and letting my abilities grow with the music. I've got a lot of admiration for technicians (Alex Webster is probably my favourite player) but I'll never be one. I'd say just figure out what makes you happy/comfortable and rock it.
So ... your playing with the bass control at 1 and complaining thats its "impossible to dial in a sound with punch and it honestly sounds nasal" .. am I missing something obvious ?.
As below, 1 as in 1 o clock. My apologies for not making this clearer!
