Oh man, this one is hard for me to admit to myself, but i spent a heap of cash on a new Mesa Strategy eight 88 and a 4X12 Powerhouse because i considered it the best i could buy, and considering I live in Norway where import costs are colossal… It's heavy but it sounds great. I now realise there are plenty of great amps at a fraction of the cost and weight... 2 years after i got it it blew up... smoke.. drama.. the whole deal. Mesa in California could not have cared less. Their support for customers out side of the US is appauling. I had to deal with (via the shop that sold it to me) a Finnish distributor who also couldn't care less. I returned the amp for repair.. It took 6 months!!.. got it back and blew up again after 40 mins.. more smoke and more drama. Lots more couldn't care lessness later i got it back. It was by this time 12 months after the original failure. The fix involved replacing pre amp tubes and other components that resulted in a loss of power… God i could cry.. But the upside is, i still have it.. it does sound bloody amazing.. and it's so ridiculously powerfull that the reduction in power is meaningless. For a valve head, it doesn't break up nicely though... i've been a fool

Is this as do-able as it sounds? I assume nut adjustment but will regular 4 string take the tension ok?

Have to say i have struggled with unity gain with darkglass B7k and OmegaAlpha. They are great if you use them 100%. Maybe it's just me, but if i dialed in the drive to more 9 o'clock, then UG became unobtainable.. The ultra models have a master volume, so should be no issue there

I had a great time picking up two special basses from Niels, I decided to take a road trip to Berlin to deal face to face. Neil's is a guy of integrity, so deal with confidence. He also helped me out with a bunch of off topic stuff while I was here. Cheers Niels, please dealing with you

Tone control doesn't roll off until last 20%

Hi folks, advice please. I picked up a BB 2024x a while ago and it's a great bass with a wonderful P bass tone. However, I noticed that the tone control does nothing until the last 20% ish. Then it rolls off nicely, (just using smaller adjustments). Anyhow, I thought I could just replace it. I ordered the correct replacement out from Yamaha Japan, and the new pot is exactly the same? Not a big issue, but I am curious. Can it be that these bases are made this way? Any other BB owners or other basses that are like this? Any thoughts? Cheers

Bass set up technique is often subject to a bit of opinion, but I wonder if anyone has experience or knowledge with set up using a micro tilt neck. I know some folk think tilt neck to be a useless feature, but Hartley Peavey only included height adjustment in the T 40 bridge saddles because he said 'Fender would use it against him if he didn't'. Anyhow, my question is what is the correct sequence to set up a bass with tilt neck. Saddles as low as possible? Saddle adjust before tilt? Truss rod last?

Nice, I thought those early ones had a wide nut, tell you what though, the play wear shows it has been played a lot... always a good sign. Nice buy

I have a slightly different experience. I picked up an '82 eko FL like the one in the vid. Got if for cheap money. The black nylon coated strings are original and look and feel like 70's push bike brake cables. It has a massive body, but still no real volume. It plays beautifully. Got sissy lines, and though this vid has poor audio, the low volume tone is nice enough, and great for chilling with just like in the vid..... I decided to fit a Piezo, but didn't want to drill the body, and with no peg holes, was unsure how to accurately fit it... The bridge on the bass is not glued to the body (on mine anyway). Its held in place by the string tension. So I simply put the piezo under the bridge... now, not a long term solution, because the is so much out put that I have to back my amps away off, and get feed back if I don't move far away. That said, I'm able to play it at band volume and it's mighty if not that sweet. I'm really fond of it. If you think you'd enjoy one, do it. I have also played a Furch FL bass, and they are lovely.
