We're doing covers, so not really a fair comparison, but each gig will probably be about 25-35 songs. And a lot of them will be repeated from the afternoon to evening, so the main problem will be staying sharp! Fingers might be a bit worn, might use a pick more than normal!!

I used the Dimarzio dp123 model j pups, they were hum cancelling, but I found them very woolly sounding compared to the stock single coils, so swapped back, so if you like the single coil sound I would avoid them.

Just found out that on June 21st this year, we're doing an afternoon outdoor gig ( 2 1/2 hours) in the afternoon, then an evening about 5 miles away ( 3 hours). Looking forward to that....

Oh yes, sounds a bit different, we do hard rock covers including Motorhead and Metallica ( along with less angry stuff ) and have two guitars, one with a 100w Marshall into a 4x12 and the other with an Engl valve amp into a 2x12 which is face meltingly loud!! This will be my last rock band I think, even though I love it, fancy something quieter next time, in a few years...!!!!

My BB414 is 8lb 9oz, which is still borderline too heavy for me, but better than many, it seems! Worth it for the tone though...sweeeeeeeet!

To be fair, I was being flippant, I only run the volume at about 4/10 so plenty left in the tank, and when you're two feet from the cab you're not going to hear much over the drums, last gig people actually commented on how big and powerful the bass sounded!! Can't understand how people get by with just a 212 or 210 though.

[/quote] Wow, I must be in the wrong band, I use the BH500 into the 4x10 AND the 2x12, and struggle to be heard in large venues sometimes!!!!

I have the 410 and 212, and like you, no PA support, rarely use both, but had to last few weekends, I tried standing the 212 vertical on top of the 410 to get some height, but sounded a mess to me, so went for flat ontop giving a two across, three down arrangement, sounded much better to me. I have been thinking about getting another 212 and stacking like you do, and dumping the 410, but to be honest, the 410 is cool for most gigs, and has wheels on, so another plus there!!

I always thought Megadeth were the most " technical" style thrash band, in a similar vein would be Testament and Metallica (first 4/5 albums. ) Anthrax different style, a bit more punky/ street feel to them IMO, but they can still play and have some good tunes. Enjoy!!!!

Cool, I guess in a way it's just an extension of the generations trying to have more extreme music than the previous one, even back to the Beatles and Elvis being viewed as somehow leading the youths astray!! I still love my metal, and always will, but find some shouty stuff a bit too much, but ther's so much more choice about now.....and we'll always have the 'classics' too. I always remember the reaction of my mates dad, who got us into rock, he loved his Deep Purple etc, who were pretty heavy for the day, when we first saw on TOTP the video for Maidens Aces High, ( we were about 13/14),he walked out, saying it was just thrashy noise!!! Classic!!

[/quote] That's interesting, may I be so bold as to ask how old you are, I was 16 when Master of Puppets came out and so thrash was in it's full on glory days era around that time, and compared to all the other metal around, like Maiden and Priest ( yes, i know there were much heavier bands like Venom and Voi Vod, but I'm talking BIG names) the new wave of Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth was METAL...!!! After that of course, mainstream metal IMO got much heavier after the Pantera era, so maybe thats why you see these guys more as rock then metal? Just a thought, you may well be a real bad ass 85 year old of course....!!!!

My personal fave Megadeth track is Wake up Dead, which is more or less an instrumental with a bit of singing at either end, but the time changes and mixture of intricate lead guitar and just plain power are just intoxicating!!

Well said, seems like your experience is much the same as mine. My numbers of items are increasing week on week, but the management keep telling us mail volumes are falling. Back on topic, the OP has done a NBD thread, and his new bass seems to have survived the flight over the fence, and looks great, so good news, hope it's a good one!!!

I know first hand that people who work for these delivery companies are being pressured to deliver stuff " first attempt", as it cuts down on costs to redliver or run a collection office, they want to get rid of those, but they don't allow any extra time for you to try to deliver elsewhere, so circumstances like this start to occur. I gig my BB414 because when I soundcheck it after my Fender Jazz, the sound that comes out of the amp is soooooo much bigger and better, can't justify not using it. Action is just where I like it, lower than I ever got my German made Warwick to get, so you can get the nice hard rock clank going on. And it has a painted headstock, which seems to be a luxury on some other basses...!!!

I've wired my jazz in permanent series mode, did think about getting a switch, but lets be honest, playing in a loud rock covers band, if you get a good sound that can be heard in the band mix, stick with it!! I find the series sound is fuller and punchier, although obviously less versatile, but if its a beefy sound you're after, it works for me. I also tried Dimarzio model j pickups, the dual coil ones, but found them too muddy sounding and went back to the stock fender ones.

In all seriousness I mostly use the BB on front pup fingerstyle for most rock songs, for the punky stuff front pup with pick, for more modern and metal stuff both pups, andpick, for our one funky tune, back pupand fingers. TBH our set is 90% rockers though, so maybe an unfair comparison due to our lack of genres. Doubt anyone in the audience has ever noticed though!!!

Muse do it for me, like their music, can't stand his voice for more than two songs. He is,without doubt, a decent ,quite original singer, just sets my teeth on edge.
