1. I really noticed the trend thing when I got back into playing, I' d been in a band from 1988 to 2000, going from my first very uncool Japanese Squier P through pointy headstock Arias to a Washburn 5 string, all active after the Squier. Then stopped playing from 2000 to 2008 while kids happened, and this internet thing, for me anyway, happened. Got back into a band in 2008, didn't want to play the heavy weight Washburn so looked for a new bass, and was absolutely shocked when looking online and in shops that Fenders were popular! I kind of assumed they'd be almost obsolete by then, or maybe out of business! Now I'm obviously much better informed due to t'internet, and have embraced both " modern" style basses and traditional Fender styles, and I love both, but trends will come and go, as reflected in used prices on here and elsewhere.
2. I met the great man at Lakeside shopping centre in 1993 ( -ish...!) when I was working there as a postman, me and the other postie spotted him and ran back to HMV to buy the Maiden calender, then ran back to find him and his lady having a spot of lunch, but we still approached him and he was gracious enough to autograph it for us as he chewed on a sandwich! Couple of mates have met him at his Daughters gigs at the Ruskin Arms ( RIP ) and he's very approachable, though he preferred to talk about Laurens and other bands rather than his own, which is probably fair enough.
3. Just watched some video from Donington 2013 and the one he's playing there has no logo, so not edited off, guess it's a replacement neck.
4. My Dad ,who sadly passed away last summer, always listened to the Beatles, ABBA,ELO , Stylistics and Dire Straits, and although as a teenager I got into heavy rock/ metal ( in about 1983 ), I've always had a particular love of the rock bands with the best vocals/vocal arrangements, such as Kings X, Mr Big, Dokken, Pearl Jam,Alter Bridge, Porcupine Tree..... I like to think because of my younger days. Great idea for a thread by the way, thanks!
5.
Hi nut width is 42.5mm neck profile is similar to a Jazz and weight is approx 4.2KG Neck depth at 1st fret is 19mm from back of neck to top of fret. At the 12th it is 21mm Spacing at the bridge is 20mm center to center of strings. Hope this helps Paul
Thanks Paul, unfortunately was hoping it'd be 38mm nut, just offloading a P bass cos the neck is too wide, thanks anyway, love the look of this bass, looks similar to the one the guy from Riverside uses, great sound. ( Polish prog rock band, awesome!)
6. What's the nut width and neck profile like my good man please? Oh ...and......YAWN.....do you have any idea of weight please, sorry, but if I don't ask, someone will!!
7.
This one is for sale in the classifieds. Made in USA, quality instrument for the cost of a Squier. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/229735-peavey-foundation-bass-made-in-the-usa-white-with-rosewood-fretboard/page__p__2378184__hl__peavey__fromsearch__1#entry2378184
Cheers, that does look nice, in a late 80's hair metal way ( thats good, for me who loved that era! ).
8. Marvellous, thanks, was wondering if they'd compare favourably to say an Ibanez 500/300,really liked the ones of those I tried. Not really expecting something as "substantial" as the Warwick to be fair, for years I had a Washburn X 100 ( I think ) cheapy as a back up to a very expensive Washburn, and liked the cheapy just as much!
9. Looking for a back up in a gigging pub rock band, for when the Warwick is....unsuitable lets say....(dodgy pubs)...... Saw the Peavey Milleniums and Grind models on Richtones website, and also some used ones on the 'bay, are they servicable for the money, I like thin necks and, like I say, pub rock gigs, so no need to be ultra versatile, just reasonably solid. And cheap.
10. We really should enter Motorhead or Black Sabbath, Lordy won it for Finland (?) a few years back, break the mould.......!!!!!! ;-)
11. Same here, tried by memory to play it, but on the album version it's down half a step. You can play it off the regular E but to me it doesn't sound quite right to me,maybe it would if the whole band played it ? Sorry, not much help.
12. Cool. Looks like he's got it strung " normally" then flipped it to left handed like Hendrix? Suppose its how he learned so not known any different, but sure looks more impressive to me, a standard 4 string plodder!
13. Got my MIM P 2001 used for £160 4 years ago, after a good set up it has the best ( for me, lowest ) action of any bass I've owned in 25 years, it stays in tune for ever, not too heavy at under 9 lbs, is well put together and has a slimish neck, which I like. I swapped the pups for some quarter pounders, and it sounded the same, so took them out and sold them ( this may be down to the wiring and capacitor being not all that great, not sure ), anyway it's output is hotter than my active Warwick with a bit of boost on, so no complaints. I can gig it any old pub without worry of damage, and it sounds good in a rock covers band. Do i GAS over an American model....sure, but it will be as an addition to the Mex, not a replacement, just in case.....!!
14. Hi, what sort of size is the neck, and is the nut width on these 38 mm or 41 mm? Don't like chunky Wide necks, though my Warwick is thin and deep, wondering if this is similar? Thanks!
15. Hi, I have the BC410 powered by the TC BH500 head, using that you can control the tweeter, however the cab sounds great to me playing rock standards with no PA support in largish pubs, always sound big and powerful. I did previously have the Ampeg PF500 into my old Warwick 410 4 ohm, but it ran out of puff and died after 2 gigs. I'm in a band with the guy who used to run Bassmerchant, and he said that lots of people prefferred the BC 410 to the more expensive RS (?) series of cabs, hope this helps a bit. Never ran the Ampeg into the TC unfortunately!!
16.
104 people have looked at it, only 2 people are watching it.............erm wonder why ?
I looked at it a lot of times to be honest, because I couldn't quite believe it......
17. The body looked o.k in the initial photo, just kind of reliced and stripped, but I just couldn't fathom the headstock, thought it was a trick of the light/ shadows at first! And the bridge looks...odd?
18. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4d170e84cb I`ve always liked Spectors, but how could you make them more pleasing to the eye.....this blokes gone and done.....errrrr......something.......I particularly like the headstock " re-imagining". Enjoy.
19. Could never sell my Washburn MB5, the only bass I owned between 1991 and 2008, seen many many gigs and rehearsals, never let me down, just sooo damn heavy. More or less worthless in money terms nowadays as the pointy headstock is out of fashion, but the build and sound of this bass is just awesome. Got it from under the spare room bed the other day and twas still in tune and such a great neck.
20. My first NYEve gig ever....I'm new to this covers lark at age 44........and it was a belter, made more fun by stopping for Big Ben and then jamming an un rehearsed version of Auld Lang Syne before lurching back into the set!
21. Have used the 212 partnered with the 410 for the first time last weekend, at a club with a big stage in a big room, with no PA support, volume on about 3 and a half, gain on 5 and the spectracomp thing on about 4, and it sat perfectly with a Marshall 412 and an Engl 212 for the guitars. Still tempted by another 212 if a udsed one crops up so I can run a double 212 set up, as the footprint would be small, and several of the pubs we play have limited room. The head is fantastic, would recommend.
22. If you mean last night, paulconnolly, then the band were absolute mustard. And Ozzy was there. But thats all he needs to do really!
23. Indeed, liked Ratt alot back then!! To be fair it was the tail end of that bit of Ozzy solo as I saw it, then he got good again with Zakk. Great first gig though, i was 17. And had lots of hair.
24. BTW my first ever gig was Ozzy solo in '86 at Hammy Odeon, the Jake E Lee era, so a bit of a full circle type experience last night.
25. I was always a Maiden man growing up, and though I liked Sabbath it wasn't until I got into heavier stuff like Metallica that I went back to Sabbath in the 90's and really grew to love them and appreciate how good they were as musicians. Must admit ( ducking for cover) that the Dio stuff is my absolute favourite, though obv all the classics are from Ozzy, and I love him too!
