Hi, thinking about upgrading my head, usual Peavey mix of great build quality, great spec and great bang for your buck sound wise, it`s immaculate, been in the Warwick rock bag so unmarked, would sell in the rockbag for extra £20, lets say £220 all in or £200 if you don`t want the bag.The rockbag is a lot more than a bag by the way, it`s thick solid plywood underneath, very nearly as good as a rack unit. Cheers. [attachment=81366:ebay_016.jpg] [attachment=81367:ebay_018.jpg] [attachment=81368:ebay_019.jpg]

Your 5 most influential/inspirational bassists
sykilz replied to grayn's topic in General Discussion
1. Steve Harris...grew up on Maiden from 82 onwards,he was the reason I started playing, what`s not to like about `Arry 2.Doug Pinnick..( Kings X ) really distinctive sound, great player 3.Geddy Lee...we all love him 4.Mike Starr..( Alice in Chains original bassist ) saw him 92 ( I think ) and loved the evil attitude he had,and great sound 5.Pete Trewavas.. ( Marillion ) great style, always seems to have the "right" bass line for the song, whether it be complicated or simple, which I think all the above do too, and for me is the best quality of a great player. -
If it`s in pretty good nick you`d probably get £250-£300 on ebay, which SEEMS to be the best place to sell price wise, though the people on this site are more reliable/friendly in my experience ( I`ve sold and bought stuff on both sites.) £200 would be a steal for a nice condition example IMO.

Mine cost £170 off Ebay 2 years ago,new plate, new bridge, lovely!!!! Neck needed adjusting, but now the action is fantastic, bargain. Keep wondering about a pickup change....... [attachment=77507:ebay_007.jpg] [attachment=77506:ebay_006.jpg]

I`ve got the 450 Tour, into a Warwick WCA 410 and it`s great, solid piece of kit.

My current rig is a Peavey Tour 450, purchased from this very website for £200 almost new, and Warwick 410 cab ,used, from ebay for £150. Throw in the Fender Mex P bass I got for £170 a few years back and thats not far off £500!!! Peavey stuff isn`t the most exciting, but it gets the job done, and is loud!! The Warwick cab is great sounding, and not TOO heavy for a standard 4 x 10. Definitely go used route, new stuff at this price point loses value so fast.

Thanks to all who have posted so far, I think in all honesty it is a kind of Guns n Roses sound I would like, so not that bothered about sounding un Fendery, I was brought up on a diet of active pick up basses in the late 80s and through the 90`s, so was surprised passives were so popular when I took up playing again!!!! That is probably why the P sounds somewhat "boring" compared head to head to the Washburn active. With reference to the post about the Yamaha BB series, our local shop has the active 614 for just £249 as they`re end of line, might check one out.

Cheers guys, no one saying " don`t bother I noticed no difference " so must be a good idea, I`ll hunt for some sound clips before deciding but the DImarzios sound like they may be the tone I want, i.e clear and snappy, but with an undercurrent of f**k you.....!!!!!

Should probably add I play hard rock original stuff, and my amp is a Peavey tour 450 into a Warwick 410, the amp seems to be reflective of the bass if that makes sense, the old Washburn sounds just the same as it did into my 1990`s rig which was Hartke into a peavey cab. Thanks for early replies, seems there are other options too, cheers. Just looked at the Dimarzio, would look fantastic on an all black bass.....good shout!!!!

So, really like my Precision for comfort, playability, low action, looks good on a bloke in his ( early ) 40`s, BUT , played alongside my old Washburn active bass it seems to lack punch and snappiness. I know P`s aren`t famous for these qualities, but was wondering if a pick up change would make a big difference or not ( currently stock Mex ones ), or maybe an off board pre amp? I was specifically looking at S.D quarter pounders `cos of the Steve Harris factor. I`m only a weekend kind of player so cost is a factor too, but the s.d`s look good value at £54. Does anyone have first hand experience or would I be chucking money away? As you can tell I`d like to keep the bass if at all possible. Thanks for looking. [attachment=75871:black_p_bass.jpg]

NOW SOLD VIA GUMTREE<SORRY Hi, I know it`s probably considered a " starter " bass, but I`m selling my Ibanez Sr300 bass, just under a year old, not gigged, in fact only left the house twice as I acquired a Fender P at the same time and that bass suits my band better. I can honestly say this bass is in unmarked condition, exactly as it was when I got it from DV in Romford, not a mark on the paintwork. I have all the original packing if anyone wants it posted, just ask and I`ll sort out prices. Looking for about £ 180 ish as they`re £ 280 new now I think. Will trade for a newish Squire P or J with negotiable cash either way. I`m in Essex not far from Lakeside shopping center. Strung with new D`Addario nickels 45-105s. Have sold happy basses to happy people on here before!!!! [attachment=73239:ibanez_001.jpg] [attachment=73240:ibanez_003.jpg] [attachment=73241:ibanez_004.jpg] [attachment=73242:ibanez_006.jpg]

Can`t ever forget Geddy Lee playing YYZ, just hard rock magic..... many vesions on youtube

Cheers BOD2, not something I`d have thought of, I did change back to a set of ( I think ) Ernie Balls, same gauge by the look/feel, and they`re fine, did a quick set up and they`re perfectly intonated. I will definitely try the newer strings at some point though and try the winding adjustment.
-
Thanks, will dig out some old low B and experiment.....
-
Thanks, yeah I did file the nut with a proper file, so string is sitting in nicely, don`t want to do anything too drastic as probably won`t keep in this tuning forever, just wondered if this is a common thing when going to BEAD. Forgot to say the bass is 34" as far as I know.

Hi, I`ve just restarted my METAL band, and decided to use an Ibanez SR300 I`ve had kicking around as a spare, as I don`t want to use the Fender, and my old Washburn 5 string is in a bad way (!), but I`ve strung it BEAD as I need the low notes. The problem is that when trying to set the intonation on the low B the string,it is still coming up sharp ( on the 12th fret ) even though the saddle is all the way back, there is no more room to move ! Is there any solution to this, I`m using new rotosounds and the B is .130 gauge, would different string size help,or should I just forget it and play the higher notes...>!!!!!!!

Mike McCready and Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam....................or if I`m in a metal mood ( and if those from beyond the grave are allowed, it does say imaginary.....? ) then Dimebag Darrell.
