That`s probably the best thing to do,practice til you can do it no more, then start again later!!!! Boring, put should yield results for you. The only advice I would give is to play ( with your right hand ) on the G D and A , pluck with the finger so that after you`ve plucked ,the " follow thru" action leaves you finger on the next lowest ( fattest ) string. When playing the fat E theres obviously no string to rest on, so thats slightly different, I tend to use the palm of my hand as a stopper (!). Hope some of that made sense!!! Good Luck!!!

Hi David, hope the force ( 4 ) is with you........the day after I sold her to you the jack socket in my 5 string broke.....only 17 years old, shoddy workmanship......so now bassless while this one gets repaired, never rains but it pours!!!! Learned any monster riffs yet????

Hi, for sale is my Washburn Force 4; 4string bass made from Bubinga with maple and mahogany neck, neck thru` construction, and thru` body stringing. I believe the pickups are passive but there is active pre amp for cut and boost for bass/treble. You can also pan between the 2 pickups for very versatile tones. I`ll do a link to the review in Bass Guitar Magazine.... http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/index.ph...=37:bassguitars As you can see it gets a pretty good write up. I`ve played a 5 string for 15 years, and got this to ease the burden on my shoulder, but for the stuff I`m doing it just isn`t quite right, so I`m going to sell and try for a lighter 5 string!!!! I`m based in Essex near Basildon and Lakeside, or I`ll post for £20 I still have the original gig bag and box, so will be very well protected. There are 2 of the teeniest dinks on the body, but these are practically invisible due to the grain of the wood. Hi, located in Essex, I have for sale my Hartke Hydrive 210c Combo, with 2x 10 inch drivers. Had this less than a year from Bass Merchant in Colchester, only gigged twice, but due to band sound need something a little larger. Marvellous punchy sound from this little beauty, it has all sorts of gizmos, 7 band graphic, compressor,Hartke bass attack pedal built into amp. I`ve not sold anything on here before so forgive me if I`m slow or inept, but I will reply to everyone interested. These now retail for up to £599, I`m looking for £325, with buyer collecting, I`m near the Lakeside shopping centre so fairly accessible, thanks in advance. Is there really none of these about gigging anymore.......come on there must be..............
-
Yeah, he did a few months back. And had the farmer Joe look going with the denim coveralls.....
-
Still see him at the Castlemayne every now and then, don`t think he plays much anymore which is a real shame, loved to see him shred!!!
-
No, I got this at Monkey Buisness on the way into Southend, which later became PMT when they moved, I think. I do know Joe Hymas, the long haired chappy who worked at Dels for many years though!!!!

I owned this from 1988 to about 1993 when I went all 5 stringy, sold to our guitarist, who suprisingly still has it, so I`ve borrowed it for a bit, not sure about the colour, bit 80`s, but the black hardware and ebony fingerboard do set it off well, and I do love a pointy headstock. I believe this cost me about £550 new, not that many made apparently. Has EMG pick ups, schaller hardware, still plays well. Wondered if anyone else has one similar? Cheers in advance. What was your first bass and why did you start playing?
sykilz replied to damo200sx's topic in Bass Guitars
My 1st bass was a Jap Squier P Bass in white with maple neck for £150 from Monkey Buisness Southend, because I wanted to BE Steve Harris ( still do.....) in 1986. Started bass cos the 2 other guys in my college music lessons played drums and gui*** , so I learned bass and we started a band. Played Metallicas Creeping Death on the stage with no voacals one lunch break, marvellous times....!!!!!! I eventually took the bass to bits and ended up chucking it away years later, what a pratt, it`s probably worth a mint now............we live and learn!!!! -
Ha HA, fantastic stuff guys, I certainly will try as many as possible, I know what you mean about a soul mate, my Washburn MB5 is just that, I`ve had it ( dare I say " her" ) for 16 years or so, and love it to bits, perfect sound for when I was in my more " metal " phase, but it just did everything right and left a smile on my face every rehearsal. The downside , however , is it weghs a ton and is just a bit neck heavy, so gives me a neck ache on those long rehearsals!!!! I got the Wasburn force 4 recently, and it`s very very good, but like I say, it doesn`t fit quite with the bands sound, more a sort of Thin Lizzy AC/DC pearl Jam kind of sound, hence the interest in a passive. Any more coments gratefully received, very interesting about the wide variations in quality though......
-
Hi guys, I am wanting to maybe buy a passive bass, I have 2 active Washburns at the moment, and they both sound marvellous, but in a band situation I think I would like that passive rumble, and was wondering what the gripes are with a Mexicanno vs. an American Fender? Obviously there`s a price difference, but would you really notice the sound quality difference in a loud rock band? I tried a Yamaha BB 414 last weekend and liked it, reading thru the forums it seems maybe build quality would be better on a Yamaha vs. a Mex. Fender Precision. Also of course I can get a new BB414 for the price of a used Fender !!!! Forgot to say, we`re only a " hobby " band who gig once a month or so, not proffessional or anything,so I`m not looking at silly price ranges, here`s a link to the bands myspace if anyone fancies a listen...www.myspace.com/darkstarrockuk Thanks for any info in advance!!!!
-
DOH!!! The pic in the link in the 1st post looks like a black pickguard, must be the angle it`s shot at, the fender website one is obvious innit!!!??? Still a mighty wedge of cash though.
-
you may be right Bassbod, as when it took a little ding in the back, it produced a small white crack which looked a bit odd, maybe this was some kind of glaze ( wrong word, can`t think of right one....)
-
Love the bass, doesn`t `Arry usually have the mirrored scratch plate tho`? Still have it if the funds were there tho`.........

Hi guys, could anyone reccommend an oil or wax to keep a natural finish looking good, I`m getting a bit of a shiny spot around the volume knob too where finger rubs, I know Warwick supply some stuff with their basses, can you get it anywhere? I`ve attatched piccy of my bass. Cheers.
