2.
Got a gig that night, mate. Can't make it. Shame. Last saw Dave on that classical thing he did 'Bass Inventions' - didn't work for me. Before that it was teh Extensions tour and Kenny WHeeler Music for Large and Small Ensembles. Dave is the best. I have all of his CDs on my ipod (except Life Cycle and Emerald Tears which you need silence for - no point in walking the streets listening to it as you won't be able to hear anything). Have a good one!
im hoping to go, i definately will be going to see Larry Grenadier earlier on that day...
 3.
Great sound.really meaty! What's strings r u using?
thanks man. using a Schertler DYN-B pickup, Evah Pirazzi E and A, Oliv D and G. its hard on gigs when your sound is dependant on a FOH guy, but this chap did a decent job.
 4. Heres my bass on a gig, about as warts and all as your gonna get. Toughest thing in the world to get a good acoustic sound in dive bars... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ezk57otWuA...feature=related

 9.
I'm the sound engineer down at Jazz@Future Inns where you played a few months ago.
Of course. Thanks for the great sound that night. Hopefully play down there again soon.
 10.
I'm using Pirastro Olives on D & G, Obligato on A & E. I really like them, they've transformed the sound of my Bryant bass, even with the bow, their very nice, though it took some time to adjust to the different feel and response. I chose this combination in exasperation, after reading tons of stuff and talking to guys about it. I rarely succumb to marketing bumf, but I love love Patitucci's sound, and he claims to use this string combo on his site. I bit the bullet and dipped into my credit card ($220 odd from Quinn Violins). Tuning pretty steady.
How you getting on with the Oliv D? I love the G, but some people say the D is a bit thumpy and indistinct. I went for the Eudoxa D instead but remain curious about the Oliv.
 11.
I've heard Greg play through this with his upright and it sounded truly fantastic. One of the best live double bass sounds I've heard I reckon.
Thanks Joe, i already know that im gonna miss it loads.... Where did you see me/the berg play?
 12.
Love these cabs:
im reluctantly selling my IP112 ER, its in the classifieds if anyone is jonsing for one. they really are amazing..
 13.
Is this an IP112, or the newer IP112ER?
Oops, Its the ER version, as new.
 14. Not sure if im allowed to do this (tell me off if im not). Im reluctantly selling my Bergantino IP112, this really is the rolls royce of amps and its just incredible for Double Bass as well as electric. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=78787
 15. Easily the most incredible amp ive ever played/heard/owned. Those who know the Berg stuff should know what this is capable of. 500watts out of a 12 inch speaker, goes to 1000watts when you pair it up with another speaker. Huge sound, its just beautiful and EVERYTHING said about it is true. I bought it less than 6months ago as i needed another amp and this is perfect for both my electric bass and double bass. I just cant recommend this enough. Selling because i need to clear some money and i could use my other Schertler amp for the upright stuff, too many toys and no money... Bought brand new £1500 from Mark at Bass Direct, he knows me and the amp well. Its in spotless condition, im thinking £1100 would be about right. Feel free to ask any questions, this is a great opportunity for someone to get an incredible amp. 16. Good idea, I know a few players who use mixed sets and the Evahs seem to blend well with the guts. Ive got a new set of Evahs that ill try out soon on a pop tour, will let you know how they blend etc if you like.
 17. Thanks, Its a full set of Chorda's. Theyre pricey, but Pirastro were kind enough to give them to me. Ill definately stay on these for jazz stuff. Theyre a real pain in the ass for tuning etc, but im getting used to the sound. Its a different set of rules on guts, but i really love the Jimmy Blanton, Pettiford old school sound... As far as i can tell, the Velvet Garbos are pretty close to being 'gut' like without the tuning hassles and a lot less money. Think they're round £220 a set, might be worth a try at some stage? Those Innovations are good for Rockabilly arent they?
 18. I know theyre a pain in the ass for tuning etc, but im digging the sound. Im using Pirastro Chorda's and thyre so much fun so play. Played a jam session in Bristol the other day and someone recorded it using a cheap tascam handheld recorder, its a bit rough and ready but you can get an idea of the sound. Its the first track on the myspace page- http://www.myspace.com/gregorycordez Anybody else on Gut strings? How you getting on with them?
 19.
Hey Cordez, How are you doing mate? I was sure I would see you in this forum :-) Cheers, Valere
Yup, its winter and too cold to go outside...
 20. Hello everyone, This workshop idea sounds like a good one if your all relatively in the same boat. Theres a couple of outstanding double bassists around Bristol these days and i'd be happy to help out (if i can) and/or put you in touch with these guys. Ben Groenveld is particularly good with the bow and fundamentals. Bass Bod is Duncan isnt it? Dunc, what you talking about? I heard that your quite nifty on that EUB... Any of you Bristol guys want to try this out, give me a bell on 07795660622 and we can try sort something out.
 21.
Are spiros any good for bowing, ill take them if they are. I dont really like the strings on my DB but i have no idea what they are.
spiro's are ok for bowing, theyre better suited for pizz (especially jazz). ive bowed with them with no problem, but there are better strings for bowing out there- but then those arent as good for pizz. the velvet anima stringd im selling are lovely, but the Oliv A and G string are beautiful for bowing and pizz- i recommend those particularly. you could try a mixed set of the spiros and olivs..

 23. Having a clearout to raise funds for some Eudoxa strings i bought- at considerable expense.. Set of Spiros- just over a year old and plenty of life left in them £25 Set of Velvet Anima's- Beautiful strings, ive had a couple of sets of these and think theyre great for that 'gut' thing without having to put up with 'gut' problems. As new (been on my bass for about 4 days before i gamble on the Eudoxa's. About as new as you can get £110 ( cost £225 new- HALF PRICE!) Oliv A and G string- I love these strings, the G is amazing! Gut core wrapped in steel, beautiful sound. 4months old, loads of life left £70 (both strings new would cost around £200)

There is John Thorne who played for Lamb he is Manchester based. I would go to Matt&Phreds on Oldham St and watch some Jazz and then speak to whoever is playing afterwards, I have found most double bass players are really helpful.
