  1. You been to Martin yet? Hope it went well.
  2. Hi, I recommend Martin Penning very highly. First rate work, decent price and top bloke. He loves basses as well. He's in frome. Google his name and you'll find his website
  3. Hi all, Got a brand new set of Helicore hybrid strings (medium tension) to sell. All boxed up and brand new, except for the A string that was on my bass for less than an hour. Great strings, but im gonna stay on guts even though they bow badly. They cost £130 new. £70 posted Velvet Blue strings, in good condition and used for a month or so. The G string has two small breaks in the windings which hasn't affected tone or playability, but will sell these dead cheap because of this. £50 posted
  4. I've been using pretty much a mic-only for the past couple of years. I've been (for the most part) pretty happy with it. I was kinda belligerent though in the early stages and decided no matter what happens with feedback etc, I'll make it work. To do this I practise drawing a big and focused sound and get a good pull on the string. I have to use medium-ish action to get my finger under the string Ray Brown style. As a result, I'm getting much better volume acoustically and a better tone from all of this. As I'm using a mic to capture a sounds, rather than a pickup to eq, I'm more aware of the quality of the tone we coax out of our instruments Most gigs are jazz type stuff, but Ive got used to eq-ing my amp and making sure amp and bass are in good positions. For me at least, I really wanted to learn how to use a mic and stuck with it through good and bad. If I wasn't so enthused about the idea I probably would have given up after a coupla gigs. I have a pickup in the back pocket for those impossible gigs though..
  5. hi, how much is this going for?
  6. Thanks Chris. Pleased to see you are keeping that lovely double bass of yours now.
  7. umm, thanks for the pbass enquires. its a '68 and it would be sold at around £3500 if someone has deep pockets...

  10. gone
  11. I was the previous owner of the bass. I found it to respond well and speak quite fast. Was clear and even over the entire range, and the neck was really fast. I had some work done on her before selling, a new bridge fitted, fingerboard shoot, and new sound post cut. This all added to the tone and playability of an already nice bass. All in all, a lovely bass for that price. Had to sell it to fund my Martin Penning bass. In a perfect world i would still have it also.

    Guts

Geoff speaks a lot of sense, but I've been on gut G and D Golden Spirals now and I love it. It certainly takes a lot of getting used to, particularly with the right hand attack, but I love the sound...
  16. I've got a newish set. £85 if you want em..
  17. Totally agree. Im lucky enough to have a deal with Schertler and I traded a few things for the QSC. I couldn't imagine doing it in one foul swoop...
  18. Hi Laurence, Ive still got my DYN-B, and i use it on about 75% of my gigs. Ive had it for about three years now and its been brilliant for me. It took a little getting used to at first, placement of it, how to eq it etc, but its pretty indispensable for me. I love how it comes on and off in seconds so it dosent bother my bass. Also, its brilliant when you have more than one bass and can use the same pickup,or touring and using different basses. I know of a few people who have tried the DYN-B and really didn't like it, but one of the best live sounds I've heard is Reid Anderson who used it with blended with a Realist. It seems like it dosent get on with certain amps, i used to used an Acoustic Image and it couldn't get a good sound with the schertler. Ive got incredible results plugging direct into the back of the QSC K10, that sounded awesome. So, it seems like the DYN-B is a bit of a moody bugger, but if you get lucky with the right bass and amp combination, its easily the best pickup option I've encountered.
  19. Bought one of Pete's Aggie cabs. Lovely chap and highly recommended.
