Thanks for spotting / posting this as I'm up for going along. Looks a good show from the bits you can find on tinternet.

SP here too - couldn't resist the finish! Sorry for thread hijack - carry on funketeers...

What happened at 3:52? Nice Cort, looks like mine with too many strings ( )... have you buckle-rashed the back of it yet?

Merc A-Class, the old type. Cheap and take the rear seats out* to reveal a small van. Quite a low loading height too. *They're meant to come out, I don't mean start unbolting things

Not harsh at all, Spondon - sorry, didn't mean to come across as a tw@ - I'm not You have a 606 - that was my first foray into drum machines, had the bag and all. If only I'd kept the blummin thing! Owning a 606 I always wanted an 808 - more toys and better kick / snare. Now I'm loving the 606's ride cymbal and beefed up a bit the kick and snare come alive. New Order's Confusion - now here we have Arthur Baker in command. He hired a guy with an 808 to do Afrika Bambaata's Planet Rock + various others and then did Confusion. Totally with you on that, ra-ta-taah-ta-ta-ta-taah-hey.

Love how they swap instruments on stage. I've been watching them since I started finding Turkuaz and the other similar festival players. Joe Dart is awesome.

Blimey, some 808 haters... or is that h808rs. Dink must mean cowbell - unmistakeable. Each to their own
-
808 = alright with me.

Prince - Stare (from the last album) is pushing my buttons at the moment. I can do it but keeping it going and playing clean is tough. Indeep - Last Night a DJ Saved My Life - for the same reason, it's a ridiculously simple line but my method of getting back on the F# root isn't perfect. OCD comes in because I'm thinking 'should be easier than this'. Still haven't got the strength in my hands yet. A good measure for me is the beginning riff from Boomtown Rats - Rat Trap. I was all over the place 2½ years ago when I started but it's a relative doddle now.

I bought the Vanderkley 112MNT in the summer this year and while it's absolutely lovely (clean as a whistle, fast response), I wish I'd sprung the extra for the 4x10 to get the punch. When I've got some spare reddies (hello new kitchen, goodbye bass purchases) I'm going to be hard pressed to decide between adding a 2x10" Vanderkely or flogging this and going straight to the 4x10. Whatever advice you get, just try some stuff cos my goodness I took ages to decide on the 1x12.

I've just got a bottle of Amarone on the go... should I steer clear of <insert-music-vendor-here> this evening?

Finally decided on a Voodoo Lab ISO-5, picked it up from gear4music yesterday and MrsT is apparently going to wrap it up so I've something to open Sunday morning. I've even got the cordless drill on charge in readiness.

I don't think the word 'slap' does it any favours either. Personally, it's the first word out of the box when it comes to describing it, maybe a UK thing, but 'thumping and plucking' doesn't roll off the tongue as well. You get the feeling from the name that it's based on imprecision, just bashing the strings... and that, as we know, is far from the case. In a similar vein to being on the other side of the fence, I don't hate it but I'm no fan of tapping, but the skill involved gets my respect. @Funky Dunky & Barking Spiders - well said, you've either got the funk or you haven't.
-
Waddyaknow, it works without 2 and 3 good call
-
Barking Spiders' video... I dunno, but we'll find out as I do what you're doing - if it works, hooray, stages 2 and 3 aren't required and I hadn't even tried that tbh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc-P2XH5Jrw

Mister Spiders - from one funker to another... 1) Find the youtube clip you want to paste in basschat and copy its URL - this can often be a case of CTRL+L followed by CTRL+C to first select the address bar and then copy the contents. Nothing appears to happen, you just should have the URL now ready to paste. 2) When replying in a thread, go to the More Reply Options button so you get the full kitchen sink of buttons. The 3rd one in is the Special BBCode button (as I write, this is between the eraser and the Font dropdown). Hit that. 3) Select Media from the BBCode drop menu, leave the dimensions box alone and then paste in the Media URL box the youtube URL. 4) Before you submit, remove the 's' from the end of 'http' - this is IMPORTANT for basschat as the code can't work without removing the 's'. So if you have https://blahblahblah then you should end up with http://blahblahblah after you've taken that s out. 5) Click OK 6) Use the Preview Post button and you should see your video. I know I'm going overboard explaining, but sometimes tech people leave bits out as if they were obvious. I find it's best to explain as if you were getting a Spanish waiter to cut the wires on a bomb. Less grief and you get to keep your hair. Some hair. Well it's thinning a bit.

[quote name='RhysP' timestamp='1480438501' post='3184409'] I was a big fan of Kim Clarke's superb slap playing with Defunkt in the 80's. [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhk4aZ89iS8[/media] [/quote] That's lovely, ta for posting, I'll look them / her up. Gotta learn this one... the opener sounds doable after about a year of grafting but after that...mmm, yeah right. MarloweDK does a good job on a playalong somewhere. As Freekbass said at the LBGS - you don't have to be fast to be funky. Seems to be quite a few techniques out there, I for one can't get along with the 'straight thumb' technique as I find it easier to mute when I bend my thumb back and strike with my wrist a touch higher (almost Flea-style but not quite). So that's not me saying my technique is better, it's just that a lot of the videos you find try to get you into a certain thumb position that you might not naturally be comfortable with.

-
Anyone got one of these and can give some real world (excuse the non-pun) feedback? Given the BeatBuddy requires a min 300mA and that I've got a Pigtronix 18V pedal, the CS7 fits the bill. It definitely fits the Pedaltrain Jr that I have and even comes with brackets. My main thing is noise - I'd rather spend more money and keep electrical interference to a minimum. There's only 4 pedals in total and the other 2 are 9V low-power (MXR Octave Deluxe and Boss TU3). Any good / bad / indifferent reports before I go ahead and order one? MrsT is buying it for my Chrissyprezzy, huzaah.
