From the picture/s it does look the same, as in, all the caps look in the correct place as does the 6K6 resistor on the 250K pot, and I would also say, the wiring looks the same. However, I can only see the value of the middle pot (250K) which also checks out, as it is correct. Therefore, I would suggest the diagram is of the circuit you have in the bass.

I make necks for my Zoot bass range from Roasted Maple I buy in from my supplier in the USA. In the workshop when I cut through the bulk timber, the colour throughout is consistent with not lightness in the centre or anywhere else. However, when I clear coat the finished necks, the natural colour goes at least two times darker than the raw roasted timber. I have to say that the scratch on the headstock in the picture does indeed look to me to be a bit suspicious? Maybe they were trying to sell it as "Roasted maple colour tinted" and not the real thing? I maybe wrong, but I'm not convinced it's the real deal. Here are a couple of shots of what Roasted Maple looks like before & after. I only tend to buy in "Flamed Roasted maple" but the colour of the non-figured would be the same colours. I hope this helps.

The finished Bass. Mark is due to visit the workshop this Friday to take delivery, and we may make a short video/sound check.

Pickups are wired the "Old Way" to allow the coils to be either series/parallel. The switching is done on the tone controls via push/pull switches on the pots.

More work on the Multi-coil "Wal" style pickups for Mark's custom build.

Yes, the new Zoot Boudica shape seems to be a favourite for my "Wal-a-like" builds. Here's another one going through the workshop, and the customer asked for blue over Bird's-eye with a 34" scale, similar to the one Justin Chancellor has in the band Tool.

I was able to make this bass with a 24 fret neck, meaning I could push the bridge back further towards the back of the body compared to a standard Fender Jazz/P. Add that to the fact that I used Hipshot ultra-lite machine heads and string bar, and the weight distribution came in just perfect.

When buying or selling to trade up or down, just remember this simple rule, "If in doubt, stinky poo out" Basically, if you have the slightest gut feeling it maybe the wrong move, don't do it.

I can and still do for people who ask for the original Zoot bass shape. Not sure what was going on with Geentext and the neck situation, all I know is Mike Birch would have thrown it straight back at me if I made it like that, meaning someone has tried to do something and had the neck off and then not got it back on again properly. Oh well such is life and these things happen.

In very basic terms, if you want physically twice as loud as 300watts you would need to have 3000 Watts, as it's logarithmic. So the difference between 500Watts & 800Watts is basically nothing. However, as an example, a 300watt amp feed into a 1X12" cab with a speaker driver that has a high dB sensitivity rating (say 107dB's) would sound louder that a 500Watt amp feed into a 1X12" cab with a low dB rated sensitivity speaker driver (say 89dB's) assuming both speaker drivers in this example are 8 Ohms each. The light bulb in my office is 60Watts, but I can't hear 'F all' coming out of it...just thought I'd throw that one in there.

I worked at Cambridge Composites (F1 products) before starting Zoot bass, it was there I learned the art of all things Carbon fibre. I've never had any affiliation with Rob Green or Gus guitars. All my carbon fibre work has been done by myself in my workshop using my own Vac' oven etc. All the moulds and tooling were also made by me using my own CNC machine. Here's a picture of one of an early Zoot fretless I made around 1985-ish.

No worries Russ, Yes I remember the review in Bassist mag all those years ago. If I decide to get back into making Carbon Graphite necks again, they will be newly designed with brand new moulds, and be either bolt on or through neck, (No fancy neck joints).......

Yes I'm still here in Essex with a full order book for Zoot's, Funkmeisters and Zoot Boudica "Wal-a-likes". I still have a vac' oven and all the stuff to start making Carbon Graphite necks again, I just don't have the time with my current work load. regards, Mike.
