  1. plus Does not compute. Have you ever even spoken with one? Maybe you should cut down on re-runs of The Rockford Files.
  2. If you're going to gig with it put the rest where you need it. Otherwise it is a trophy piece.
  3. Not to mention totally innocent songs about a pubescent boy and his love for his puppy. Master J. Oz-Mond
  4. But he still did a fantastic job even without a brown paper bag to contain his alleged emissions, right?
  5. No need to apologise. I'm sorry if my hasty observation offended you. From the OP's comment below, it is clear that I am the one who should refrain. Having had a go on your DB a couple of years ago (thanks BTW) I couldn't comment as I didn't get to a stage where I could noodle in the short time I allowed myself. I was very pleased to see you had a five though and I may yet take some quality time out with a good upright to see where I can go with it. I'll shut up now. There is a vast gap between my shallow depth of hands-on experience of builds and almost everyone else's. By way of apology to you both; have a cake -
  6. That's a bit of an extension on the old saying; Been there, got the teeshirt. The orange ones are the safest. They must be better than the red ones because the safety elves always use orange high-vis jackets. You don't often see them in red.
  7. With respect Christine, you have put in many many hours to get to the craftsperson stage, if I may call it that. If you pause to examine Owen's avatar, you will notice that he dresses his DB in fake leopardskin. I think he's looking for a fun experience as much as anything else. You make a good point though and it is well worth putting in the time with apprentice tasks if you are looking to do scratch builds for a significant length of time. In another life I might well have enjoyed an apprenticeship in lutherie instead of aero engineering.
  8. ? I'd love to hear your story. My experience with private Richards is not good. Worse than with the Police in fact. Good luck OP. Your photos are well worth circulating. That distinctive scratchplate ought to help unless your basses have been nicked to order.
  9. I shouldn't laugh. It's just the timing... you understand.
  10. Cosmically speaking, there is no such thing as good or bad so you're safe. Just use appropriate PPE. Actually, you might get some interesting texture on a bass body using one. It might not lend itself to a wiped on finish but it would certainly add character. It would make a statement along the lines of: you can keep your relic impersonators and rotate them, mine is hard core scruffy!. You know... that sort of thing.
  11. That back is looking quite dramatic with the finish on. Nice.
  12. Welcome Charles. It sounds like you already have the resourcefulness and enthusiasm to get some real enjoyment from the instrument. Have fun.
  13. I reckon this would work well with any of the dayglo colours; yellow, green, orange... with complementary dayglo strings of course.
