I don't see how.. I mean, have you ever tried to catch a hipster in a butterfly net? It usually takes several attempts. They're a bit like squirrels - the beard acts like a decoy in the same way that a squirrel tail does. Fly paper doesn't really work with hipsters though, I agree.

Yup. Basschat was a much needed shot in the arm for this lapsed bassist when I joined three years ago. Thirty years without a gig had made me complacent and I wasn't engaging with the instrument very well when I came back to it in my fifties. Great topic. I saw that one as well. 1967. What a year! I recall bitter disappointment however. In the weeks leading up to the first colour broadcast we had been getting regular announcements before and after my favourite programs of the time - Tomorrow's World, Star Trek and Mission Impossible. I believed Aunty Beeb when her minions announced matter of factly that we would see next week's episodes in full and glorious colour. They didn't tell this five year old that Dad would have to buy a colour telly! Bar Stewards. Heeheehee.

I have to agree strongly with this. I was one of the kids who sat with family watching Black and White telly when there were three channels, all terrestrial. I think it might even have been pre 625 broadcasts (405) and certainly before the BBC announced that they were going to turn the colour on for the first time. We LOVED Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville. A lot of my generation have now got a foul taste on our palates post disclosure. That is all.

Having had a go on your DB a couple of years ago (thanks BTW) I couldn't comment as I didn't get to a stage where I could noodle in the short time I allowed myself. I was very pleased to see you had a five though and I may yet take some quality time out with a good upright to see where I can go with it. I'll shut up now. With respect Christine, you have put in many many hours to get to the craftsperson stage, if I may call it that. If you pause to examine Owen's avatar, you will notice that he dresses his DB in fake leopardskin. I think he's looking for a fun experience as much as anything else. You make a good point though and it is well worth putting in the time with apprentice tasks if you are looking to do scratch builds for a significant length of time. In another life I might well have enjoyed an apprenticeship in lutherie instead of aero engineering.
