Does anyone actually use their B string?
SpondonBassed replied to LITTLEWING's topic in General Discussion
My Steinberger XT25 had roundwounds from new and I kept popping the B string over the edge of the frets until I got used to the feel of it. I put flats on and it seemed to be a better balance of string gauges across the five of them. The B was less inclined to pop over the edge. The flats seemed to suit the humbucker/neck through combination. I don't look for a lot of treble in my rigs. I am old but I am not an old slapper! Like you, I bought an 18 inch Trace cab. I can't say what it's like at gig volumes but I have it as the extension cab to my Ashdown combo with its 15 inch cone. It's wonderful at the volumes I practice at. If you get the chance I'd love to hear what you think of it through the eighteen incher at full blast, as it were. -
Cheers! We're quite optimistic. Whilst not expecting miracles, we can see a bit more scope for mobility because Jack's been doing his physio therapy for the last few weeks. As he was a national weight lifting competitor in his time, he is no stranger to reps and regular training sessions so it's going well. In addition, he is to be assessed at the falls clinic later in the week. We hope to understand what triggers his falls from this and make improvements to his treatment. Also we have had a kind offer of help already. I'm darned if I'm going to let the opportunity to attend slip by. Jack enjoyed it a lot last year too so he's got a goal to pull him through.

I'll put you down as slightly ambivalent then.

Wireless connection. Play with the band but with the rig in the car park.

Finished Pics! Andyjr1515 meets his Nemesis?

Bless you. Have a fisherman's friend. -
Gosh, that thins out dramatically. Not only could you kill a dinosaur with it... you could also dig a big hole to bury it in with that spade of a headstock! Have you some more photos of that please?

The vision is becoming reality. I couldn't appreciate fully what you had in mind between you until this last lot of images. Ee it's grand. What is it about the colour purple and musicians? I mean... dark pink is just not the same. PS: I wonder if you'd both consider a follow up in five years time, all being well? I'd love to see images detailing how the ageing process affects this bass. -
I'm glad to hear that you aren't using whatever screws come to hand. It's so easy to get let down by poorly made screws. Sometimes it can ruin an otherwise "perfect" build to have to drill out sheared screws or replace chewed up screwheads.

I like it because it is tactile and that helps my fretting hand find first position accurately.

Yeah. Derby is a bit far to travel just for a go on a cheap Steiny. If however you fancy the Midlands Bass Bash in May I hope to attend with my B2A anyway and now I'm going to take the Steiny along as well. If you or anyone else in attendance wants to compare them I am happy to let you have a good old noodle. Of the two, only the Spirit has a low B. I suspect that the B2A was a higher spec relative to the Spirit within their respective catalogues. I certainly think the Hohner is the better instrument all 'round. It will be interesting to hear what folk think in general. If you've not been to a Bass Bash before, I can recommend it as a friendly place to put faces to some of the screen names here and to see basses and amps that aren't usually available in the showrooms. (There's usually cake available and all). -
That's a very nice bass. When you see what it came from, it's all the more remarkable. Good work.

Who makes a good mic stand these days?

Don't they? How crude. -
Oo. Option 2 looks a lot like the start of Dr Who! Can I have one of those and a sofa to hide behind as well please?

I shouldn't joke really. I think I'd like the facility of a tablet with me at gigs too. With a footswitch there would be none of that tedious wetting of thumbs and turning of pages every so often.
