  1. Can you get off-white hardware? Black then.
  2. That's two thirds of a house jam without having to leave the house itself. Nice.
  3. That was how I looked at my kit. I wasn't expecting too much but what I got was a lot better than I deserved. It was also a good indication of how I'd get on with the physical shape of the model it was paying tribute to. I got on so well that I bought the genuine bass soon after and decided that the Pitbull would be a worthy test bed for when I want to play with alternative electronics because the HBs are splitable. I have had the Pitbull out at Open Mic and it was fine. It's nice to have an inexpensive backup. It made me smile to hear that you now have a two bassist household. Gawd help your neighbours when you're both practising, one at either end of the house!
  4. I couldn't put it better than that. Especially after the artist has passed away. How many Elvis impersonators are there in the world currently? I found the question had been asked in 2008 and I've pasted an answer below: "There is a lot of speculation as to how many Elvis impersonators are out there, with experts reckoning that the number of Elvis Presley impersonators has reached an all-time record high. "There are now at least 85,000 Elvis’s around the world, compared to only 170 in 1977 when Elvis died. At this rate of growth, experts predict that by 2019 Elvis impersonators will make up a third of the world population." - The Naked Scientists 3 December 2000." Fun Trivia
  5. Bump. We've heard about late eating in Bristol and Leicester so far. I can't believe that these are the only two places outside of The Centre of the Known Universe (formerly known as Wigan) that offer food to the weekend warriors on their way home from a gig. With the weekend upon us, please keep this feature in mind and submit your findings for inclusion in the September Podcast.
  6. Cool. I especially like the knife. Handy for cutting free of all flying V associations.
  7. Please tell me that you are going to do two fretless fives and that I can have one for displaying such an impressive beard.
  8. Excuse the diversion - They're genuine. They were shown on a BBC feature either on the News or the shortened version of BBC Click, I forget which.
  9. Great quote from Douglas Adams. Interestingly, he seems to have predicted the creation of Vantablack. "In addition to directly growing aligned carbon nanotubes, Vantablack is made into two sprayable paints with randomly-oriented nanotubes, Vantablack S-VIS and Vantablack S-IR with better infrared absorption than the former. These paints require a special license, a temperature of 100–280 °C, and vacuum post-processing"
  10. Much. Honestly though, that's all "disc two" material for the AJR Guitars DVD. Who bothers with that anyway?
  11. If I have to get my credentials out, would you at least draw the blinds first please?
  12. Fair enough. It could well be a collector's item in its turn. You've still not said what all the Allen keys are for. Have I to provide evidence of Musicman ownership to find out or summat? I mean, this topic is quite cliquey already. Heeheehee (Puts on flame proof onesie)
  13. That's a serious looking fret press. Respect. I modified a vice grip based tool for a ukulele fingerboard once. It would not be up to the job on your build however.
  14. You've lost me, sorry. Can you expand on that?
  15. You have a way with words. Very glad it wasn't a malevolent splurt. They're the pits.
  16. Welcome back Bassmingo. I completely understand the sentiment re: assumptions. In fairness, we get a bit like that here sometimes. I suppose it all balances out, cosmically speaking.
  17. Three words: Stock Aitken Waterman. Music by numbers or art? If Disc Jockeys and Masters of Ceremony are regarded as being creative like Musicians* generally are, why not Programmers as well? *Not all musicians are creative remember.
  18. Yes. The effort is not wasted however. Despite automated spray booths and chemically curing finishes, I have yet to see a product of contemporary manufacturing methods match the quality of a hand finish. Anyone remember French Polishing? Built up layer by layer, it is about the best "natural" finish you can get. It works for trans and solid finishes too. "Literally, hundreds of passes all over the surface of the wood will be required to complete this step. When this objective is reached, take a break and wait a few hours to allow the shellac to dry thoroughly. You're going to need to repeat this entire process 6-8 times to achieve the desired finish." French polished guitars There is a lot of effort spent in the prep between coats with high quality spraying too. You could take short cuts but it would be a shame not to give the underlying instrument the best finish you can achieve.
  19. It IS a nice little pack for the kit bag. How many Allen keys does a Musicman need though Pete? I assume this is a "universal" kit made for Musicman instruments across the range.
  20. Thanks for the update. I'm encouraged to hear that he's still working towards a full recovery. It is remarkable how well he has done so far given the poor prognosis early on. You got singled out for laughing? Cool. If you're reading this Jim, you have my admiration for getting back on the road, as it were. Best wishes for that full recovery.
