  1. Hahahaha! That made me smile. My next door neighbours moved to Melbourne. Although I have lived in Derbyshire for a few decades I assumed they meant they'd emigrated to Australia. Not so. They had moved to a small town about twenty miles away! Doh. Melbourne, Derbyshire.
  2. Not many people would realise that the 8 track cartridge uses one only reel to store the tape therein. The tape is spooled out from the centre, around the PB/Rec heads before it returns to the outside of the reel. When new, the tape is loosely wound and it is slippery enough for things to work nicely. Over time and with exposure to hot and cold environments the tape tightens up and playback suffers. I think they're still used by analogue radio stations because they suit short term applications such as jingles and station idents. They've not been seen in car audio systems for a couple of decades The Elcaset was a non-starter even though it was in the high end Hi-Fi outlets that I'd spend a lot of time in during my youth in the seventies; I don't think you will find many TOTP episodes' sound tracks on these. To put this in context; Betamax (a video cassette) lost out to VHS causing lots of folk to regret their investment in the format. Sony later released the mkII of Betamax in a smaller version that rivalled the mini VHS cassettes that became popular in camcorders. Years before, the Elcaset was launched to address shortcomings in the four track Compact Cassette. It was said that the larger Elcaset would give users of reel to reel tape machines an experience closer to what they got from full width tape reels. It bombed Worse than Betamax. Then Compact Discs pulled the rug out from both formats... Now we're talking realistically about using DNA strings for data storage. It's amazing to witness all of that development in my own lifetime. Wow. Just Wow - no flutter.
  3. It looks lovely in the photos. I see design nods towards Ibanez, Yamaha and Musicman.
  4. HTH I hear more good things about these guitars than bad things.
  5. You are welcome. Thank you for dropping your images here. It all makes sense now. Excellent project.
  6. If you allow scripts from Akamai Technologies it might. I don't trust third party scripts however. Nowadays, less than ever before. Are you aware that Basschat has a substantial amount (500MB) of storage for member's files now?
  7. Hooray! Sorry Josie, this has become a derailment from your OP. I am happy that Dave has mentioned this however as it has been knocking around the forum for a good while. I take it that you'd settle for any length of gig at this point...?
  8. While we're talking about them, how do Americans eat their scones? Does the cream go on first or the jam jelly? Although this is a link from 2014, the debate goes much further back than that.
  9. If there is a significant market for that length of pub gig in this country, I'd be surprised. I would certainly not rule myself out for a go at it despite that. It's a worthy goal of achievement. Being a hobby bassist is disadvantage enough. My only two gigs were 35 years ago just before I quit to put in some serious effort with my apprenticeship. I returned to bass much later as an alternative to taking up smoking again. My age and general state of decay is a disadvantage to getting match fit without a good six months of graft to make it happen. To put in the effort, I'd need a carrot dangling in front of me. In other words, something guaranteed to make it worth the effort at the end of my fitness training. I don't see a carrot and I am not the beast of burden that some bands require their bassist to be. My hobby will never develop into a job, full stop. I think that there are a few clubs that put on extended live musical presentations but even those don't run four hour sets by one band. I believe it still goes that events of this sort are broken up between several acts. If anyone knows of a British pub or club that does feature a band playing for three hours or more regularly please correct me.
  10. Then there is no chance of you getting your moob out, accidentally like, on national TV. We're spared, thank providence.
  11. Speaking as an ageing part-time one, the recent and frequent exposure to snow flakes has most certainly contributed to the negative aspects of my own personal gitdom. Take meaning from that term as you wish. I quite enjoy a good fantasy however. I'm still a git but a happy one.
  12. Aw shucks thanks. Heeheehee, I'm touched by your considerate comment. (What are you after?)
  13. Oh man! I used to be a regular flier in the good old days of Duty Free shopping at airports. I bought packets and packets of high grade tape from those shops. Chrome, I think, was the flavour in favour at the time. I saved a bundle on backing up my LP collection.
  14. Stainless steel should be the metal least likely to cause a skin reaction. I react to long term contact with a lot of metals. Stainless Steel, Gold and Silver are the least likely to cause irritation.
  15. Semi-flats then? Quite bright yet thumpy widdit.
  16. There is an issue with the photos. I don't see them either. I only ever use a lappy and all.
  17. Yeah. ...and I recorded Take a Walk on the Wild Side on it. The VelvetUnderground meters were a twitchin'. So there.
  18. I do like a bright lass. Lucky lad.
  19. While folk are allowed to advertise themselves as Professional Dog Walkers it is a pointless debate.
  20. Have you sealed your knots? Or is that taken care of by the filling compound? It used to be necessary for pine doors and such. Sap discharge would be an awful thing to discover in years to come.
