I know Merv would have been tickled at the thought of being posthumously awarded a double-barrelled name! Here he is in 2004 shortly before he hung his axe up and in 1948 when he started off as an axe-man with Arthur Green's of Silsden:
It is important to remember the characters that stand out in life. We will never see their like again. Good on you!

I'm still laughing inwardly at the comment by Rich saying Pino's fingers put him in mind of the facehugger from Ridley Scott's Alien.
Just picked up some. I hear a difference. Better tone across the spectrum. In my mind worth the ducats. What say you?
We have a member here who does premium cable to order - OBBM. If you have decent cable you have peace of mind. If you can hear the difference you were not buying good cable before. Beware of cables that are well lubricated with snake oil, if you get my drift. 'Nuff said.
...my main reason for posting it was to share the YouTube clip showing John's clear cut blatant response regarding the disk jockey that had stopped playing The Beatles records...
Nutters of that calibre are not news to us Brits Blue. Glad you put the link up. I have the four segments saved for my grandkids.
We may have a name for the bass, then...
Rascal Mervyn Lyte Not a bad-un either. It'll get called The Rascal for short and Mike can put a personal tribute to his late friend out there in a subtle form. May I suggest you hyphenate the full name thus: Rascal Mervyn-Lyte?
A micro fibre cloth is good at removing dust. My local supermarket sells packs of about 5 in different colours for a couple of quid
Have you tried a tack cloth? You can buy multi-packs of them for under a tenner. Less sticky than a Post-it[sup](TM)[/sup] yet sticky 'nuff for dust. Paint sprayers use them. Maybe Post-its would work too? -
Harharharhar. I walked right into that one.

By the way. I am also a radiogram hacker. I hated changing records on it because of the low cabinet and hinged door. I removed the turntable and made a plinth for it to sit on top of the unit. It was a simple thing to extend the wiring from the turntable and send it back into the cabinet through the grill at the back. I also made up external speaker cabinets for it and filled them with discarded 10 inch drivers from my aunt and uncle's scrap heap. I was 14 when I did that. I got my first half-decent turntable, a Pioneer PL12D, in my early twenties. That Alba radiogram smelt wonderful when it warmed up. That and the valve glow through the grill with the lights out are the only things I miss about it.
...And unless you were doing hiphop/electro no-one used the cowbell!...
Ah... that dreaded dink sound. Also favoured by Whitney Houston on I Wanna Dance With Somebody. It was in the charts for a long time and I grew to hate that sound with passion. The dink was a bit annoying as well. Happy days...

Come on you lot. Andy's in 'nuff trouble at home because of all the swift droppings that Mrs AJR has to wipe up. Don't encourage him.
Nah, you're thinking of a drummer. You heard about the drummer who was suicidal about his bad timing ? Threw himself behind a train. Baddum tish !
I'd have really gone for a punch-line of Squish baddum! You can't have everything in this world. But seriously, I love drummers, I just couldn't eat a whole one.
Mr Edwards in his full, Bass glory (I nearly forgot about this gem).
Someone explain what a "virus mix" is please? I am not a great fan of re-releases with new, up-to-the-minute, beats grafted on if that's what it is. For the moment I am playing the tune back in my head as remembered.
That gave me some LOLs, ROFLs, and LMAOs
My laughter, on the other hand, is not abbreviated. It is full-on with some of Dave's delivery.
I give myself kudos and credibility for all sorts of stuff all the time. I think I was 9 or 10 years old. I had their records and knew I wanted in on all if it. the beat, girls, the fashion, the attention, I wanted to be cool. They opened the door to all that for me. And if history serves right I wasn't alone. Blue
I credit you for embedding yourself in the colours of the US flag on your avatar. Subtle yet patriotic. Good one!
...traditional irish folk music...
Excellent point! People focus on the fabs being from Liverpool while forgetting that Liverpool is strongly influenced by Irish culture.
I would have to say I am more a huge fan of The Beatles but not necessarily their music. I can't think of four names that naturally roll off the tongue more than; John, Paul, George & Ringo. Blue
Careful now. That's close to admitting to being a groupie! Heeheehee
It's the use of MOST influential that I object to. They were influenced by Dylan to write more interesting lyrics; Dylan was influenced by them (and many others!) to go electric. They would have been influenced by the psychedelia of the likes of the Electric Prunes to produce their later stuff (see the Nuggets and Pebbles albums series for examples). It's not like they invented rock'n'roll! Meanwhile you've got the whole of black music to ignore as the MOST influential on rock and pop; I spose Chuck Berry, Little Richard et al had no influence on anybody. Or for that matter, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, or Robert Johnson or a host of other blues men did nowt to change music. Or James Brown, Motown, Hendrix, George Clinton/Bootsy, Sly and the Family Stone, Africa Bambaata etc. It's ridiculous to say someone is the MOST influential; it's like saying Dali is the most influential artist, or Charles Dickens the most influential author; Everybody is influenced by all sorts of stuff, including the Beatles; nobody lives in a bubble, and most importantly, it's not a bleedin' competition!
Great post. You are the most influential poster in this topic.
I assume because I've looked at this Reverb listing, I'm now gettting Tony Levin's for sale ads popping up in my FB feed. Amongst them, I found this. One for blue I think.... https://reverb.com/i...ul730-amplifier
Is there an advert with two funk fingers coming at yer?
Not at the moment, but it would be an easy fix to do so. Once I've wielded it in anger a bit I will see how the hum situation is. Mind you, the Dimarzio DP 126 set has a rather handy split coil J pickup..
How does a split coil J work then? I always thought they were single coil.

If we're doing controversial dinner parties, I'd like to be a fly on the wall at a W.I. dinner to which Oliver Reed has been booked as the guest speaker.
And rightly so. Interesting, because I see more of the " I don't get what the big deal was' sentiment than your rightous and astute position. Agreed Blue
It's okay Blue. The silent majority just knows what a big deal it was. Many world changing things happened as a result of the sixties though. Lots more things were happening in the world that drove the youth towards self-empowerment after years of post-war austerity. You have to remember that what passes for common knowledge these days is influenced heavily by social media. I mean EVERYONE knows who "came up with" the word fake don't they? I feel so phony right now.
