1. Welcome Damir. It is interesting to hear about and see the bass tambura. I wasn't aware of it before but it sounds interesting. Although I play fretless electric bass sometimes I find double bass hard to intonate. Maybe the bass tambura would help in training to play uprights where it is needed most, up to the 12th fret. What does a three inch plectrum look like and how do you hold it?
2. Welcome James. Have you seen our build forum yet? Among the new builds there are projects that may be of interest to you. http://basschat.co.u...-build-diaries/
3. Best: The raffle ticket that I bought at East Mids BB4. It won me a set of five semi-flat D'Addario strings that I had, as yet, no bass for. Runner-up: The Pitbull kit that I bought with the strings in mind. Lots of pleasure from both building it and playing it. I haven't really got a worst, sorry. I'll try harder next year.
4.
...bags of heft...
SPLUTTER! [Wipes tea splattered screen with a snotty sleeve] It can't be true because bags are not hefty enough to contain heft without risk of rupture. Now... if you'd said skip-loads of heft, I'd have believed you without question.
5. Aw. I heard when news of Sean Hughes' (RIP) death was on that he had been in a music vid for the Terrortones. I was all set to look into the band to see if it was yours. Two bits of bad news then. Good luck with the new venture, I have the vid on my short-list to watch later.
6.
Looks too good to be true. I wonder how far in you have to go before some kind of fee becomes payable..?
My first thought also.
7. OT. I got bored with the clip halfway through. I had my eyes shut as I listened and it made no difference. Not really my bag.
8.
This is a thread which begs for a Hamster intervention.
Careful now. I got a call from the PC brigade on another thread because I had not made the distinction between hamsters and gerbils. I got my shoulder felt for being insensitive to the rights of all rodents to be individuals. The harassment case is due to be heard in February of next year.
9.
<Yadda yadda yakity yak> ...In other words, they're all as bad as each other afaic. Apart from Douglas, of course.
I'll give you five minutes to get your hand off my knee.
10.
Looks like a similar technique to the Chapman stick; maybe she plays that, too..?
At this time of year I always carry a chap-stick in my handbag.
11.
Would you have put it up, if it was Johnny Vegas playing this tune in his underpants?
Would you mind rephrasing that please? Mr Vegas is concerned about his role in this scenario.
12.
I'm in love!
I'm sure she's lovely and all that but I've already had enough of relationships where there are too many strings attached.
13. Welcome Mark. Did some work for Triumph Motorcycles' R&D in their first factory in Hinckley in the nineties. I believe it has since burned down.
14. Lots and lots of knob twiddling potential then. Marvellous.
15.
..."Dancing in the moonlight" (Thin Lizzy's I hope?)... I'm happy.
Of course. It's one of the lines that made me really listen to bass in my teens.
16. Welcome Jacob. Impressive interests.
17. Collected a pair of speakers from Martin today. Free of charge from his post in the recycle sub-forum. Decent chap, he was helpful with directions, he demo'd the speakers for me and saw us safely out onto the main road as we were leaving. Smooth transaction. Cheers Martin
18.
Historically, the role of bass was support. Like drums and piano, it was part of the rhythm section. Without rhythm, the whole thing falls apart. I just heard Sting's "Fields of Gold" on the radio. I had never anylised it before. It's voice, some airy-fairy keys and the BASS! The bass is the melodic/rhythmic instrument holding the song together. It's not vituosic, but it's perfect for the song. What more do we need? If a motorcyclist can get where he's going without an accident, does it matter if he doesn't jump the Grand Canyon like Evil Knieval?
Does it matter if he can?
19. Dweezle and Moon Unit have fallen out? Oh no! How I wished I had been there during the name-calling phase of the argument.
20. Do you earn anything from this band? Will the new set be more profitable? That would be my starting point before saying anything. Even if you do it just for the joy of it, I'd have thought it would be an interesting progression (regression perhaps?). Early sixties simple pop is not so simple to execute well. Looking around at other bands would bring you up to speed with the market, so to speak, and you need not commit to anything until you've had discussion with your band. You must discuss this with the established members if you still feel strongly about it.
