  1. It's as if it was the illegitimate love child of TOTP and TOGWT. Now that its parents have retired it is left running the shop into the ground - if you take some of the comment seriously. It's good to have a commercial free music program at all IMHB. If you channel surf the Freesat music offerings you are as likely to hit a commercial as a music vid. Nowadays there is a lot of "lifestyle" content too which makes me want to yak up into a bucket frankly. Be honest, you'd miss it if it went away forever.

For all those years I didn't realise a change of strings would make it feel right. It was as if the scales had fallen from my eyes after thirty long years. I agree with you. If you had no other choice I don't think there would be so much temptation to rely on frets for good intonation. I also think that you would get your ear in - so to speak - far quicker.

On the other hand, putting "Rockinbetter" on a headstock with exactly the same typeface as used by the Rickenbacker company is not only a con, it is immature and insulting to those "in the know". Creativity trumps copycatting for me - IMHB (In My Humble Bumble) of course. If you are interested, I can get you an image of the label that I designed for my ukulele making friend but it is not really relevant to this topic.
  10. That's a good one for the curriculum vitae (resume). It's a credit to you. I liken it to to a regular Glastonbury attendee going on stage after many years of enjoying the event from the audience. For Glasto it would probably mean you needn't bring wellies to the event any more...

[/quote] I am by no means an accomplished player even for an amateur. I really didn't like playing the P bass that was available on open mic night a while back. I tried it for the experience though. In addition I was thinking that it is best to use what's supplied rather than waste time for others wanting a bit of stage time. I needn't have brought my combo. It can't hurt occasionally to go out of the comfort zone as they say. By definition, the worst it can be is uncomfortable. On my second night there I swapped the house P for my Steiny and played through the portable house system. This gave me the advantage of allowing me to make a daring getaway from all my new fans by leaping into a waiting taxi because I had no combo to slow me down. Oh yes... one of the other wannabes asked if he could use my bass for his turn that night and I surprised myself by saying okay. No problem. I did weigh him off before saying so though. I am not totally gormless. Heeheehee. Maybe it is not such a problem to use strange kit after doing it a few times. I imagine it gets easier somehow. With all the set up and luggage I appreciate how sharing can be an advantage for drummers more than most. The downer being that there is lots more that can go wrong.

[/font] [/quote] Surely you aren't paying the fees by yourself? If you are, that's something you could change to make it worth their while to turn up with the goods before hiring rooms. I always ask how much the rooms cost after an audition with a band that is compatible. Unless I'm being taken for a mug I offer to chip in in a small way to show willing. I would never expect a free share in rehearsal room fees as a band member. It's just wrong.

  23. I have to say that I don't believe in the concept of perfection. That's my excuse for putting Tenacious D up (above). I do however have many songs that I like a LOT. Trouble is I sometimes play them to the point of boredom. Then it's time to move on. Mood is such a factor in my enjoyment that asking me what I think of as perfect is like asking someone to nail a jelly to a jack-in-the-box.
