1. I like your thinking. It leaves more cash available for kebabs.
 2.
Considering it could be headless as well, there really is no excuse for such a hideous head. I really like the body aesthetics though.
I feel the same way about a certain president of somewhere or other...
 3.
It's a Laurus. Federico Malaman can be seen playing one in a lot of his videos.
Many thanks. In context, I could put up with it's aesthetics, not sure about neck dive though. You have to take that as coming from someone who favours headless instruments.
 4.
Let's not overlook a superb example of design brain-fartery (body included).
Isn't that what the americans call "adding lightness"?
 5.
You're welcome. Let's not forget this monstrosity on an otherwise very nice looking instrument: http://basschat.co.u...ttach_id=229305
I can't comment on the otherwise bit. Have you a photo of that too please? Maybe it's a well known brand but I don't get out much.
 6.
I once lost a job because the guy took the drummer and I out and got us pissed after the audition. I never took the whole Lennon vs McCartney thing very seriously, so when he started the conversation I said ,in my inebriated state, that The Frog Song was a work of genius and Lennon was a pretentious ****. He didn't see the funny side...
Ribbit!
 7.
Sadly he is unwell with age, but he will be involved.
I did wonder. Best wishes to all.
 8.
A friend of mine was given the opportunity to engineer Brothers in Arms, but he declined to work with McCartney instead. Turned out to be the Frog Song.
Ah..... hahahahahahahahaha! I'm so sorry. You wait though, it'll be hailed as a great work one day. [hides]
 9.
And they released this.
Yeah. Did I mention it all went a bit silly in the eighties?
 10. Does your mate's grandad know what he's got? I'd have thought he'd be interested, seeing as it's his and all.
 11.
well i did catch my first green waves. the one where i rode all the way back to shore standing up with a robot dance finish was very cool. no one filmed it though.... bit like my best bass solo in public....
Nice.
 12. Yeah man. I was in secondary school and forming ideas about what I really liked when this was released. Kenny Everett was giving stuffy old establishment types the hump on Capital Radio while all the other non-pirate jocks were playing it safe. In amongst the rough edged [s]punk[/s] pop of the time it stood tall. I was allowed to stay up and watch TOGWT at long last. Being in my teens Mark's style was something to aspire to. Any time a mate got a cassette of Dire Straits we'd all go to the house with the best sound system and listen to it in full. Parents were actually tolerant of it. I suppose because it wasn't "Never Mind the Bollocks" they were grateful enough to get out of the way and let us crank it up high. Five years later they released Love over Gold. I remember waking up in my rented accommodation after a nap during which the radio was on. The album version of Private Investigations was just starting. It was one of those surreal experiences that's stayed with me ever since. Then it all went a bit silly for the rest of the eighties. I was even given a set of those awful leg warmers because my mum loved the TV series Fame. Argh. I'm not sure if it was the first single released but it was certainly the one that I heard first.
 13. I wish my strings were as cheap. £18 is still not bad. I hope the surfing trip helps take the edge off it for you.
 14.

I actually prefer that to the headstock that the make is now stuck with. When I looked it up it appears that Fender had tried to get out of that design rut but only for a couple of years; "The Fender Performer was an electric bass guitar released in 1985 and discontinued in 1987, assembled in the United States and Japan. The Performer was also available as an electric guitar." I suppose there is something to be said for following the crowd but it didn't work for me. At the end of the day, there is still a Fender at the other end of the fretboard.
 15.
I still think it was a ballsy move by John Hall to set up Rockinbetter ...
When I looked at one of those closely for the first time, the name put me off straight away. I have no desire for a proper Rickie so I'd never want a copy. It just struck me as a sneaky fake, the way the lettering on a Rockinbetter is close in appearance to the genuine Rickenbacker. I don't want to drag this out as I gather there has been controversy over this way before my time with BC - http://basschat.co.u...r-isnt-a-tokai/ It's all been said by the look of it. Suffice it to say, I don't want any of the popular brands simply because popularity adds to the selling value. It doesn't automatically follow that they're any better than less well thought of brands though. In the end it depends on your reasons for wanting a given brand as to whether it is worth spending more on it than an equally good but unheard of brand. My humble opinion.
 16. My second hand Hohner B2A is a much nicer instrument than my Steinberger equivalent. The build, finish and, wait for it.... tone are all better than the Steiny. It is active where the Steiny is passive to start with and because there is about thirty years between them in age I am not making a fair comparison. I paid less than 300 clackers for the Steiny a couple of years ago. I sometimes wonder what the price of a new B2A in the eighties would equate to these days.
 17. I saw these on YT a few years ago. Armin Metz does the six string bass thing. Here is a clip of him solo; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTS7LsKeRxM
 18.
If you could spare just one lovely drummer I'd be very grateful.
I'm surprised at you Discreet. We have a lovely drummer. He goes by the name of Dad3353 and he has a luverly set of road worn clay bongos.
 19.
Okay, that's a plan. First, buy a garage...
Here's one; The host garage Partially built The owner's photo diary is here - https://www.gearslut...hoto-diary.html This project appears to have taken three years to get to a near usable state. The diary instalments stop in 2010 however. I hope divorce wasn't the reason.
 20.
JMB rant: Why do some people advertise and not reply? Why not put links to any vids or pages they might have instead of waiting to be asked? And it's pretty frustrating when people put "search for mybandname" so you have to spend ages looking for them, and usually giving up, when they could have simply posted a link. I wish all of you out there looking for a band good luck!
Thanks. Re: JMB. It could be that, like myself, their accounts have become corrupted or hacked so that the account is no longer accessible. I can still see my ads there but the owner just doesn't reply to my emails. It's the second time an email address of mine has been rendered useless as an ID on JMB because the site owner wont reset my account. I gave up.
 21. Hey! If something as ugly as the massive Fender knob-end can become a cultural icon then given enough media exposure, clever product placement can make anything look cool. I'll be in my flameproof bunker if anyone's looking for me.
 22.
...Bass? Oh yeah - 1962 three color sunburst Precision bass. Carried it round in the fender cardboard box because the guy I bought it from couldn't afford the case at the time!
The first bass that I actually owned was a fretless Squier Jazz. That came in one of those tapered cardboard boxes. My transport then was a fully faired CX500 with detachable Krauser panniers. With one pannier off I was able to strap the guitar in its cardboard box against the pannier frame so that it was upright and "secure". The bottom of the box sat on the left hand silencer but never got to scorchio type temperatures. I used to rip through the Dublin traffic on the way to practice. Looking back it was just plain daft but no harm came to it. Hated the thing though and PXd it before I'd had it six months.
 23. Every garage should have one. Lovely
 24.
Never a good idea....
I'd have put up with it if it got a better result than this combination of goldy looking dust and epoxy resin - In my defence. It's only for a ukulele. My mate knocks them up for a laff and I thought I'd see if I could do an inlay without the required skills. The inlay shown was done on a scrap piece that would've faced the headstock of another uke build. It looks better without frankly. The circular body is the current build. I wont be trying it again.
