Hitting the strings with drum sticks

That is pure perversion. MORE! -
Erm, I never said I hated the TR808. I just don't like the dink or cowbellish sound because it was overused at the time. Joy Division/New Order were the model our band was moulded to. The 303 and the 808 therefore are okay by me. The 606 however, is a bit crappy but I own one anyway. I am not down with the kids. Sorry. I never will be. "hater" that's not meant to be as harsh as it comes across is it?
No 2. don't post on Bass Chat when you and your wife are drunk.
Don't tell me you're the first Basschatter of 2017 to be breathalysed and found guilty of being intoxicated in charge of a keyboard. Heeheehee.
I shall try to come along. Will bring my Wal and Warwick and hope to try some amps out in return. Double basses too? or is this a purely electric bash?
Why not? I brought my fretless electric to the Double Bass Bash last October. Didn't use it but wanted to be prepared. See you there?

Hand Sanitiser Recomendations?
Does a lavatory setting give a new meaning to a 'tongue in cheek' comment...?
You can go off someone right quick sometimes ya know. Hahahahahaha -
Ain't no doubt. There are good things going on with Vulfpeck. Lots of instrumental but the vocalist is just the right man to top it off. Love the guitarist's use of vocoder in their cover of Boogie on Reggae Woman too; The rhythm guitar's subtle but crucial. It shouldn't need saying but anyway, Joe Dart is Ace of the bass for me just now.
I have a 5 minute slot in the lavatory where I accept handshakes from fans. That way I'm right next to a basin and airblade. I ask them to wash first.
I've never heard a tom tit called a five minute slot in the lavatory either..... -
Ozric Tentacles Jurassic Shift. Full Version.
SpondonBassed replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Sorry Bubinga. I hadn't intended to derail your Topic. I am getting an education in Jazz Funk out of it however, cheers chaps. Now I'm off to explore the Genesis and Brand X stuff anew. I also love Prog. In the Court of the Crimson King still gets played every now and again. My thing at the moment is to try and get remastered surround versions of as much of the pre digital stuff as I possibly can on physical media (DVD or BluRay audio discs). Edit: Whoops, link to crappy file on YT replaced by alternative one. Here's hoping. -
Ha that made me chuckle, you can't win on Basschat can you. FWIW it was Brass In Pocket by The Pretenders.
Have you got a Chrissie Hindquarters lookalike in your band then? You HAVE?!? Get me on the VIP list immediately for your next appearance.
Historically "teen idols" don't grow as artists or performers nor become generally accepted. The Beatles and Elvis have been referencd to debate my position. I contend that neither Elvis or The Beatles were ever "teen idols".IMO Screaming female fans is not the only criteria for the "teen idol" label. John Lennon was 24 years old in 1964. hardly a teen. Blue
Aha! Could it be that you define "teen idol" as being someone who is both a teenager and an idol where a lot of us define it as an artist idolised by teens? Britain and America. "Two nations divided by a common language." (quote origin disputed)

Hand Sanitiser Recomendations?

Argh! Dove soap. Didn't you know that it takes a sack load of doves put through a cider press to make just ONE bar?!? No wonder world peace has taken a knock... it isn't owt to do with Trump, it's you lot steadily consuming the earth's population of doves!!! For shame. -
I've been listening to Vulfpeck for a couple of months now. I thank Basschat for that. There is a lot of their material on YT. I want to buy a couple of discs of theirs but not until I have the excesses of the season behind me. Far more accessible to me than Jaco. Maybe it's my age.
Where the f*** did you get that from.?? Yes i like that very much.!!! Sounds very Jazz Funk.
It was an impulse buy from my youth. I liked it for its cover art. At first glance it looked like the covers of typical science fiction paperbacks of the time. It took a couple of listening sessions to "get my ear in" because I'd heard nothing like it before. Listening let me into the world of jazz funk at the age of fifteen or so having been saturated with C&W from artists like Philomena Begley, Big Tom and the Mainliners * interspersed with highly political Irish rebel songs from artists like The Wolfetones; [OT Irish rebel song]https://www.youtube....h?v=DXzhEokVn0s[/OT Irish rebel song] I was more than ready for some change. I had the Visitor LP until I left Ireland. All I have now is a four track cassette "back up" that's worn out now. The clip on YouTube was a lucky find for me later on but I never got a copy of decent quality to replace the vinyl one. I know little about the ensemble. I love it to bits as a whole album but Toefunk is my favourite part. I am very glad to find someone else who enjoyed it as it's a bit niche. * Big Tom and the Mainliners is not a smack band. -

Jack Bruce! Sadly he died last year but he's your man. Watch out for jazz tendencies heeheehee.

If you wee on your hands it should help. It'll toughen your skin so you don't need moisturiser and if you do it on stage, you won't get offered many handshakes after. -
That made me laugh out loud!
Thank you for saying.

The GTA track list is a good 'un. I often found myself playing GTA just for the tunes. The chatter on the spoof radio stations was hilarious.
What the f*** is the 808 dink.? i presume its that keys/sync sound..?
It sounds like a wannabe drummer plucking on the old style ring pull, still attached, of an empty drinks can. It was on lots of singles at the time and along with the glockenspiel like quality of Yamaha's DX7, it is a sound I am happy to leave in the past. [shudders] I'd look for a sample for you only I loathe how it sounds. Funny innit?
Thank you for the informative replies all. When I use a pick I find myself naturally using the lower edge of my palm to mute, no one showed me, it just came naturally. I guess I'll find my way with fingerstyling too. One thought: on basses that don't have thumb rests (like my Stingray), I'm surprised manufacturers haven't made the top edge of the pickup cover more ergonomically shaped, sort of a 'thumb seat'?
That gets me sometimes too. The Vantage has sharp edges and corners on the plastic covers of both P and J pups. The other two have nicely rounded humbucker covers. It isn't so much of a problem now. I think starting off I was heavy handed. I'd find myself choking notes with my left hand and really pulling at the strings with my right until I'd relax. It's so easy to tense up. Sometimes my fingertips were sore from it. I made efforts to be less aggressive with my fingers and discovered that my tone improved a lot.
