...price agreed and day agreed and then a email informing on the day of sale to say he was not going to buy. In my world if you get this far into a sale then it's a given you honour this but perhaps I am just old school ;-)
Not old school. Merely an honourable man. Honour is worth even more these days as selfishness is now "a lifestyle choice", innit.

Welcome Goz. "Have a laugh"? Here?!? Hahahahahahaha, kidding.

Meatloaf on Saturday Kitchen BBC1
SpondonBassed replied to SpondonBassed's topic in General Discussion
I'm still laffing at the "artist formally known as mince" quip above. Yes, I was thinking something similar. He has a new album out however. Edwin Collins managed a comeback of sorts from a nasty stroke. I wish Meat all the best on his. I'm having the new release as soon as it hits the CD shelf at snailsberries. -
Yep this was how I took it.
I'm not trying to be funny. I get the "implied" thing but a deal has to have the agreement of both parties not just one. In person, a handshake is the time honoured method to seal the deal. Verbally by 'phone, I'd have made certain it was understood that a deal had been reached before I'd arrange travel. At least that way you have unquestionable justification for complaint. Did that not occur?

Hairy cabs, depilation of the under satchel, repackaging of anal protuberences and cat vomit. That's made my weekend chaps. Thanks.

Meatloaf on Saturday Kitchen BBC1
SpondonBassed replied to SpondonBassed's topic in General Discussion
Was his fave dish Meatloaf?
Rib eye steak. Food hell is cod - "because it is so bland". I'm hanging in for the interview at the counter with the Hairy Bikers. -
Just turned onto BBC1 and there he is large and live. He looks like he's been through it though. Didn't someone report he'd been very ill recently?
I recently made an offer for a fretless Warwick on gumtree and the guy asked when I'd be able to collect it, and we agreed a day. Anyway he couldn't do it anymore and finally after 3 weeks of him coming up with excuses he's told me he's holding out for a better offer. Is this common? It's the first time I've had it and it's so frustrating!
Okay, you agreed a day but you haven't mentioned whether you agreed on a price. What you say suggests otherwise.

Yeah man. What's an "ism" anyway?

Have you considered velcroing a dog to your cab to keep cats away?
Never mind the lights, I waiting to hear what Blue thinks about The Rutles
This deserves its own thread.

We were just saying the other day what a nice bloke he seems to be. His solo style polarises opinion somewhat in here though. If you have a rummage around you'll see.
Evening all, I've been playing for 17 years and my favourite stuff to play is funk, soul/Motown, jazz stuff or anything that's got groove... My gear: 2001 MIM Fender Jazz Deluxe 5 string G&L L2500 5 string Ernie Ball Music Man S.U.B. US made, 4 string 3/4 Double Bass Romanian made Mark Bass CMD120 combo Gallien Krueger 115RBH cab Sans Amp I'm a head of music in a large secondary school in South Yorkshire and currently play in soul/funk/pop function band. Some of my favourite bass players are Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, James Jamerson, Charles Mingus, Ray Brown, Stuart Zender, Flea and Tim Commerford. Currently looking to get more gigging/dep work with other bands and looking forward to getting involved with some of the discussions on here! Jay.
Welcome Jay. Is that The Woot in your avatar?

Trust me to be the only upside down rightie. Cuh! Never mind. Mind you, I saw one other player playing from the RH position with a bass strung the other way. I often wondered if a technical advantage could be had from playing with the strings reversed. Do you ever study your hand technique in a mirror? Wow, that would be freaky.
The event is in The Risely Park. I imagine it has been booked by BassAce in his own name as a private function so they would look confused if you mentioned a Double Bass Bash. I hope that clarifies
Yes. Many thanks.
-
I know what it's like. I first started with my left handed friend's bass. I'd play it as a right hander. I turned things around when I finally decided to buy one for myself and found it okay after a bit of self-adjustment. Now I can dress on either side with relative ease. Heeheehee.

Despite dropping hints, leaving little clues and outright begging... I NEVER got the orgy I wanted for my fiftieth. Bah! Just wait 'till my seventieth, then he'll see.

I have just taken delivery of a used Trace Elliot cab from Chris. I am very happy with how the deal went. Chris is a nice chap. We had a little negotiation over the details and arrived at an easy transaction. I'd recommend Chris highly if you are considering dealings with him. The cab is great too. Can't wait to give it a thorough rattling later on.
See post #4.
Thanks Jack. I had read that before. Posts #3 and #5 of yours prompted me to visit the venue for myself. We saw the Risley Park but as you said, no mention of a Hotel on the signage. The place next door, the Risley Hall Hotel is a health spa and to paraphrase from J J Cale's song it looked like "Momma don't allow no bass in this place". Yet the Risley Park function room has a private booking (possibly the one we're on about) for Oct 2nd but it does not say it is for the Double Bass Bash. Just a little more clarity might help for those who don't come from this region.

Rehearsal room: "Can you lock up when you leave, please?"
SpondonBassed replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
The last two rehearsal rooms we've used, we've been given the keys and asked to switch off all lights, make sure the goods lift doors are properly in place, check that nobody else is in the building and lock everything up when we leave. Now, I personally think it's the owners' responsibility to secure their own premises at lock-up time, not ours. I said this to the owner of our current rooms and he got a bit defensive, saying he couldn't see any problem. Any thoughts?
Is the owner looking for a gull for when he fires the building for the insurance claim maybe? It is not your responsibility. -
All I can say is that you'd need to be a pretty good player to be preoccupied with this and not with trying to underpin the song all the way through.
Yeah, but they're drummers. Drummers can lose anything, and probably will. Bass players are superior beings who always know exactly where everything is, including their towels.
..and they almost never have to quote from Douglas Adams' H2GT2G unless provoked by drummers.

12. SpondonBassed. A Vantage fretless electric bass guitar and Ashdown combo. Thanks Bluejay. Barring misfortune I will be there and will pay on the day unless you message me otherwise. I have tweaked line 12 of your post. Can you clarify which of the two places with Risley in the name the venue is please? We went down the other day and neither the Risley Park nor the Risley Hall Hotel recognised the booking. I suspect it is the Risley Park. As stated above somewhere, it does not have the word "hotel" in its name.
