Not at the moment I'm afraid. I have considered approaching the band regarding a transcription book however. I guess there might be an appetite for it...? Stuart
It sounds good. Would you be discounting for BC members? I'd be interested in a tab book.

Er, can I change my answer...? Heeheehee. Good luck. I haven't hooked up with a local drummer yet.

What's your favourite source of drum beats or backing tracks?
SpondonBassed replied to Chewie's topic in General Discussion
Good morning fellow bassists, I'm a newbie and absolutely loving this place. I use some isolated drum tracks from youtube, an app called drumgenius and the odd backing track to jam along to. Oh, and I've just tried the drum part of Garageband on the girlfriends iPad. Does anybody have any wisdom to better my arsenal on this. Please share any pearls. I'd like to buy a drum machine that didn't require an A level to program or just something I could hit for funk, rock, blues, that kind of thing. Incidentally, drumgenius, which was tipped to me by notreble.com is really worth a look, especially if you're a jazzy kind of cat. Any ideas would be well received in the Falcon. Warp speed........ Chewie
Welcome Chewie. The only backing tracks I've ever used come from "play along" tab books that have a disc with two versions of each song. One with bass and one without. More often I'll just play over a yooboob clip that I like. I have a Roland TR606 but it doesn't save and even left powered up has not got a reliable memory. I do like that it is there though, just in case. -
I want to suggest he works with a click/metronome so it's at least in time.
I'd say you've answered your own question. That has to be a reasonable option to at least try. I mean, if he gets something out of it too, everyone wins. He'd have to be pretty ignorant to think he wont benefit from improving himself. Don't we all need to think like that?

Welcome Garth. Good luck with the gig.

Cheap tuners - good value or waste of money?
Cheers! Click on the Myspace link in my sig, and The Gift and When It's All Over are on that bass. Crumbs.. recorded over 8 years ago! Rather like this one as well, although glad to report I've had a haircut since! https://www.youtube....h?v=w3AfKFkErR4
Thanks for the yooboob link. If you have a myspace link in your sig file it will not show up here. I run script blockers and social networks are on the blocking list. -
A professional setup on a quality bass should not allow any fret buzz. but i suppose its up down to personal preference as to how much is acceptable for you.
I am a realist though.

Welcome Ixlramp. Nice to know we have a member with more than a passing interest in ERB.

I am surprised no-one has mentioned ageism by name in this discussion. In the front-line of "the business", live performance, isn't ageism actually an integral and dare I say necessary part of the job? It seems folk are afraid of the word in these PC times.
You've been overdoing the James Joyce again. Stop it. Stop it now.
I'll drink to that! OT - Wasn't there a game that allowed you to plug in your own (real) instruments? I forget the name but I thought it looked like a good practice aid. No?
In the Twenties, all of the 'in' people were heavily into rowing clubs, in flannels and boaters; the girls with long ostrich-feather boas . Roller-skating was all the rage, with rinks in every High Street. Kids aspired to become boxers, or wing-walkers for the less timid. The jitterbug was about to break. Times change, sometimes faster than one would like, but change they do.
Crikey Dad, you need to change your screen name to great great grand Dad if you're recalling that from experience!
Is this guy the next big bass hero? Only just got into them, after seeing their name being bandied about for months now. Joe's feel, sense of groove and dynamics utterly floored me. Just an upsettingly good player, right up my street and has really inspired me to practice my butt off.
It doesn't upset me. He's a joy to watch. It looks like he's loving every beat. I must try listening without the vid and see if it changes my perception.
D'ya reckon kids these days don't give a monkey's left tit how well someone can cut it on a guitar, drum kit etc?
Yup. Superficiality is king these days. Doesn't bode well for the care homes in my old age so I'll probably do the humane thing for myself instead.
Toodle Pip
Alternatively, a good poodle tip is to always use a reputable canine grooming service. There's little worse than a badly turned out poodle.
I signed on to play bass guitar and sing backing vocals. I did not sign on for management responsibility. We have a BL for that.
There is a lot to be said for this. I'd imagine that fitting in is better than trying to do a bit of everything and perhaps not managing to deliver the best in any of the roles adopted. If the band already has an identity, it could be counter productive to behave otherwise.

I have marked my calendar. I'd like to see what you lot are like! Heeheehee, seriously though, would I be out of place bringing an electric fretless guitar? I was thinking the double bassists may have some pointers on techniques that translate across. Vantage and Ashdown combo.
What does the board reckon to this? Personally I feel offended that they are looking to book an act to play between our sets, and I'm definitely not happy to let her loose on our PA.
AND you're getting paid twice? Sorry, I don't understand what bothers you other than the use of your equipment. Unless you propose to hire it out, what do you do? I suppose in your position I'd look at it as doing a fellow musician a favour and booking a good seat for myself in life's big theatre of Karma (or at least enrich my reputation locally). Probably just me.

Foulds of Derby no longer have their stairway wall of musicians looking/wanted ads. Deep shame. The Internet is just not the same.

Cheap tuners - good value or waste of money?
It can work nicely.. http://basschat.co.u..._hl__megacustom
Thanks for that. Looks grand. Can you point me to any recordings online where I can hear it too? -

SpondonBassed replied to Grangur's topic in General Discussion
cutting the head off an 80s bass feels wrong to me.
So? Big hair was wrong too. Anyway, tuning from the other end was very much a thing of the eighties. Whatever you go for though I'd love to see photos of. -
Errrm that's 'emojis' and don't Orange do it already?
Hahahahahahahahaha! As if spelling was going to mean owt to anyone using them. I like the hieroglyphs on that amp though.
