Really? I find that interesting. I'm not buying into it though. I hope this does not continue beyond this thread. Best of luck with your bass though.

Welcome Chaz.

For three little words that opens a family sized can of worms. Is a band really an act? Not for me it isn't. I'd call it a group if you are focussed on commercial success. How's that for splitting hairs? An act suggests a lot of scripting and choreography to make a musical show and go touring. At this point you are merely part of a production company that exists purely to make that show profitable. I have never aspired to becoming a musical Thespian, sorry. Join your local AmDram society if that's your thing. You will get better experience from it for what you are intending.

Very well put. Thank you. Whatever happened to bands though? My own feeling is that they exist largely as a cult thing. This is nothing new. It's just that the Internet channels folk by preference in all things including music. You aren't exposed to proper bands so much this way. Bands survive by word of mouth and by reputation for consistency. They also get more involved with their audience while performing. Social MeMeMedia only goes so far.

Hmm. I will allow you that if only to keep the thread on track. This boyband phenomenon, as you put it - Have you taken a moment to consider the Monkees? They are an example of manufactured band of capable musicians who had to fight to become a proper band with their own material. The Americans of the time couldn't get enough of the Beatles, you see. Let's move on.

Of course they did. The term I'd use is "grooming". I do not use this in an attempt to make it sound sinister however. So, if that's your assertion you should have aimed your sights squarely at George Martin.
-
I wouldn't drag them into it. They were a tight band without question. Brian Epstein may have been naive but he was a promoter, not so much of a meddler.
-
Why not? When you get your eye in it's not difficult to read. At least it isn't full of extra punctuation that is justified by the poster saying he used to program drum machines. You know who I mean? If not, never mind.

It goes a bit further back. Three words for you - Stock, Aitken Waterman. I'd love to be in a three/four piece band like in my youth. It just ain't happening for me these days (yet). To me as an aspiring band member, being able to play through a set list and live with the imperfections as long as they sound musical is something to aspire to. Tech is all very well but in some senses it is taking the bones out of musicianship to replace them with a carbon fibre substitute or something like that. I like Ringo's famous quote - "I am the f*cking click!"

After Eighty - Small Ashdown Combo On Steroids

Aw. Sympathy for your loss. I understand completely. (I may steal your NY resolution for myself.) -
Well deserved. An eight piece band must be quite an outfit to be a part of. I am almost envious.

I watched every minute of that. Within the first few bars I had it up on the main sound system. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tight

My Hohner B2A has this. It has neither fly lead nor connector. Just push the battery into the slot and shut the hatch. It is a little fiddly to remove the battery though. Keep the internal contacts clean with a dab of switch cleaner/lube (apply with a soft cloth rather than spraying it directly on) or similar to make it easier.

We had a British TV documentary about it recently. Of course, attention was focussed on Hollywood. I was appalled by the absence of any comparison to what everyone who was not a media success was experiencing. I was starting to feel quite ill watching it so I switched it off. Huge sympathy here for EVERYONE who has been touched by the disaster. Some can recover but many have lost everything. -

We're messing with your head. Relax. It's what we call banter. You'll soon pick it up if you hang around with the rest of us reprobates for long enough. Respect -

Dunno. Don't you? I know he was seriously ill. I would say that he's probably wanting his privacy if he is. Crikey, what an industry Hollywood is. So many folk falling down due to pressures that few others would have experienced in a whole lifetime. -

Thank you for asking. Let me put it this way... If you are not in the know you wont know. Hope this helps... Heeheehee BassChat's Den of Iniquity It's not to everyone's taste but you are welcome there anyway. It helped a lot of us to keep smiling during Lockdown. Be prepared to have the mickey taken out of you though so you can return any back handed compliments. A bit like an American Roast I suppose. -

I think some players do mix the two. I can't think where but someone was using flat B & E strings with round A, D & G ones. Something like that anyway. -
