  1. Next you will be building one that can walk itself!
  2. In theory, I suppose you could have the name of each note for all fret positions. Not that it would be particularly helpful. Probably counter productive now I think about it. Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should. I like the lemniscate though. I tried inlaying with powdered metals in resin once but it wasn't great because I hand carved the relief. You should have better results.
  3. Congrats Matt. You can take the mask off though. There is no way your face can upstage that bass! It's a thing of beauty.
  4. One of the marks of a good bass sound at a venue is that you feel the low frequencies rather than hear them. If you get your technique and the right settings on a half decent compressor, you can do so without causing ear fatigue. Headphones can't do this for you so you can't practice how to get there safely at home, you are relying on tweakage at the venue rather than any real experience. With a decent practice amp you can get partway there before you hit the stage, as it were.
  5. Not a band but: Graham Fellows has appeared as John Shuttleworth and Jilted John.
  6. It's a job I haven't applied for. I can see no point in following this topic now. @Bean9seventy is on a mission of some sort but since I am not a member of his space cadet unit, I can not say what that mission is. It's become boring to read. This is not the first time either. Good luck to him.
  7. Forgive me for pointing this out but you are not on a web log here. This is a forum. Also, you are not the first poster to open up this subject. There will be discussion whether you like it or not. The bottom line is that slap is a technique used by musicians, NOT a style of music in itself. Having said that, it seems that there are quite a few that think that way. I admire your tenacity on the subject. I have a feeling that you have an axe to grind however. I don't know where that comes from and really, I don't need to. I wish you all the best on your quest, whatever it is.
  8. Realistically speaking, I may not have time to give all of the entries a decent listening to before the deadline. I promise to do better on Thursday. Just don't ask me which one.
  9. I keep saying I'll submit something one day but I never do... on either of those topics. I think I have almost a whole minute of my playing on here and that's from two separate clips. I can not argue.
  10. Also, Show us your playing videos! is where folk drop their clips of performances or practice recordings.
  11. Don't be so sure. I think there are members who, like myself, have nothing to go on other than hearsay. Electric bass and double bass, while not being mutually exclusive, tend to polarise players. There are lots who do both but I don't think that they are a majority. Personally, I am keen to learn about both. I don't play an upright. That isn't to say that I never will. Slap, as it's generally known, has a lot of nonsense associated with it. You yourself have said as much in your earlier posts. To make sense of it, perhaps it is best to look at the whole thing. I think this is important now more than ever as the lines between upright and electric bass are becoming blurred.
  12. But we can't load up, load up, load up with rubber numbers now can we? It would be good to see you there if you are able after all that's been happening.
  13. Frank has kindly given me his used guitar rack on receipt of his new one. He wouldn't let me pay postage either. Very generous and much appreciated.
  14. Dave has passed on a nice used set of Ernie Ball Slinky strings to me free of charge. Very kind, much appreciated.
  15. JJ Cale's Mama didn't want no guitar bass drumming piano reefer but that didn't stop anyone from doing all of those things... AND... all at the same time. So there.
  16. Play Bay City Rollers' tracks on that tartan axe. That'd scare the bejebus out of most rodents.
