  1. I start out trying to imitate the basslines of new songs in my repertoire but at a point where I am confident of the song structure I sometimes improvise. Occasionally I will download YT clips of different versions of the same song and imitate the cover bassist as well as the original. E.g. I Shot the Sheriff by Bob and the Wailers or by Eric C. Another example being Chic's Good Times with either BE or with JB. Eventually you end up with a variety of note choices to pull out of your hat. Getting accurate TAB is rare so it's good to try a few different TABbed opinions of what the bass is doing by saving them from the various free sources online if you aren't hearing it well enough on a recording. Ideally, it's good to write your own musical notes. With a bit of practice it can help a lot because you really take a song to pieces and rebuild it in the process. If you're seriously trying to reproduce an original sound, say, for a tribute band, I would recommend paying for an official score. Be aware though that published music is not always the definitive version. Studio recordings and live performances by the same band can have very different basslines or even bassists! Trust your ears above all else.
  2. I might have done the same but for the fact that my Blu-ray player can't "see" discs any more. I can't be a®sed to troubleshoot until I am in the right frame of mind to re-cable all of the separates and hoover around the back of the lounge A/V system. It's an old house and it can get right cobwebby behind with little critters and stuff if it's left long enough. Not a nice job. Have you a dedicated disc player H? Just curious as to what's good these days in case I decide to replace mine.
  3. If they were talking about it on 6music I would have thought so. In the OP I just posted the first link I found after hearing a bit about it on the DAB.
  4. Paul passed on his copy of Guy Pratt's book My Bass and Other Animals to me free of charge. He covered the cost of postage on the understanding that I would make a small charitable donation of dog food to the local food bank and then pass on the book to another Basschat member when I've done. It arrived in one of the neatest brown paper parcels I have ever seen shortly after we messaged. Cheers Paul. That's the spirit of Basschat right there.
  5. Spoken like a true connoisseur. It will be a while until it appears on the free channels so I might well invest myself.
  6. That looks tidy and functional. I think I'd have problems with the ends of your ramp though. I'd have to plug the screw holes with dowel and preserve a rounded edge from the neck to the bridge pickup. As it is integral screw access is not required. That or just not have a ramp but that's just because I've never tried to play with one.

My dad's too, he ran a four piece dance band, barn dances they called the events,  the only one I ever played with him was Autumn Leaves,  oldies but goodies.

      Mine too.

It was rare for him to sing along to much of anything but he did like that one.

  8. Oh wow. You really aren't shy of getting your hands dirty then...?
  9. Have you decided against paint then? It does look good already.
  10. This is better than a Sunday roast! Quite appropriate since yesterday turned out to be Caturday.
  11. If you get to Derby, we wont see you stuck for a lift. If I can't squeeze you in, I am sure someone else can. Of course we'll need details nearer the time.
  12. I'd say you pretty much have to after showing those. They're striking looking basses. I bet they sound good too.
  13. I am sure one of us could help you out with a lift from an appropriate station...? Can you get to Derby with your kit, for example?
  14. Ta. I may have met you IRL at a Midlands Bass Bash a while back then?
  15. Excellent. I like your choice of colours with the hardware too.
  16. You'd have to have watched it to say that though. I've seen 'nuff click bait and YT inhabitants who sit with an instrument just yakking. We have singers for that job already. Sorry matey, you (the OP) are redundant.
  17. What was your previous screen name please?
  18. I thought that would be so. Nevertheless, his music was influenced by the psychedelic movement. It contains drug references, as do many other popular tunes that are not pro susbstance abuse. I did not say it was druggie music.
  19. I like the scrolling TAB that some YT users have on their clips. I don't know if it's an add-on for YT users or whether it's a feature from standard video editing software. It's helped me to improve my sight reading (albeit TAB only) especially when there is a moving cursor on the beat. Of course, YT's advertising tends to inhabit the lower half of the screen so it might be an idea to put it along the top of the screen for those who stream only. That way you'd avoid the frustration of a banner obscuring the TAB content at a crucial point.
