I don't think there is a bar on collectors. If you never played an instrument it's usually a piece of art all by itself. Defintely more practical than a piece of canvas hanging on your wall.
You'll get there. Find your muse and set the pace you want to learn at. Branch out then from your comfort zones and play stuff you don't necessarily like but can reliably churn out.
Acrylic is highly notch sensitive.
A relatively simple scratch or score on the surface that is under tension can be enough to cause a crack if not a complete fracture. It's not a great idea.
It might be considered Hip though so buyer beware.
@kwmlondon recently put a brand new jazz scratchplate up for recycling. A stamped, self-addressed jiffy bag was requested and, on receipt, promptly returned with the goods in an as new condition. Even the protective film is untouched.
