Thanks. I had been at a loss as to what to call it. I thought it might be polycarbonate but that was a clumsy guess and I wouldn't have put my reputation on it. Now I know what it is I have a chance of finding a bonding agent to help with the binding. Also, I am reluctant to use screws to attach the pickguard until I've tried double sided tape. This is not going to stop me using the bass in practice however. I'm liking its sound. I have never managed to put up an example of my playing but I will try later with this build.

Do they do a carpet tile version of a tufted shag? Why yes. Yes, they do. Funnily enough. I am considering a role in a ZZ Top tribute band for sometime down the line. To that end, I'm working on my "inner Dusty". Uncomplicated bass lines but boy do they show up any and all of your inconsistencies.

I've considered a stiff resin mix like Araldite's slow pack. The problem is that the sheet will wick where the corrugated cells are open at either end. I'm thinking more along the lines of a bound edge.

The piece of sheet that I've cut is fairly thick but I think it's okay for the job. I will have to find a way of binding the edge to make it a bit more tactile. Cutting the holes for the controls is to be done carefully because of the soft plastic. I used a tap handle with an auger drill bit to cut accurately. Turning the bit by hand affords a degree of control that you wouldn't have even with a hand brace. A sharp blade trims off the ragged edges easily The controls are ready to fit The loom is very easy to fit. I think I mentioned before that it looks like one of @KiOgon's with a solderless connecting block. Job's a good 'un. If there is good enough light outside tomorrow I will get a better image to replace the full sized one a couple of posts above.

I have made a monster. I call him Frankenbass. Seriously though, I have a bass almost ready to use in anger that I have built from parts kindly donated to me by fellow members. In reality I call it a YamaCore because it is a hybrid between a Yamaha BB1100s and a P type Encore. Would anyone care to work up a graphic for the pickguard? The graphic should have the word YamaCore as the focus and, in smaller print, it should acknowledge that the bass was built from parts that have been recycled by Basschat members. The headstock face is to be left as is but on the rear face I will put the site URL in fine print. I might put a QR code pointing at the build topic for it if non-members are able to access the Build Diaries. The only colours I want in it are black, red, green and yellow. There are a couple of submissions already from followers of the build topic but there is still time to consider more designs. Feel free to add to the ones already there. YamaCore

I owe you three likes. At the moment I am all spaffed out. That's not at all bad looking. I won't be putting a cannabis leaf anywhere near it though. The place for those is in a bong, a vape box or a nice cake. Spliffs are so last century. I do however want the Rasta colours of black, red, yellow and green in combination within the graphic. It's nice of you to include an aerospace reference in the form of a propeller. I think I'll keep the tuning forks however. It is my intention to do as little refinishing as possible so the headstock face is stopping as it is. I will put the Basschat address on the back possibly with a QR code pointing to this topic. I would therefore like to have a modified version of this on the pickguard - the only part that I have manufactured. Good man! You sought out the correct typefaces. I had done that also only not quite as well.

If anyone wants to use this as a basis for their graphic... The shadow is from the sun at about nine thirty this morning. No flash. Shot a day after the one above . Now it has knobs on, so to speak. Not much sunlight but at least it's not artificial.

Thanks. I wasn't planning on doing that. I was just curious why Google would have anything to do with Basschat apart from their ubiquitous analytics scripting and such.

I may be your closet competitor in that Owen. I keep getting distracted from setting up my scratch build. In gathering bits to recycle and ultimately use in that build, a Frankenbass (the YamaCore) has emerged, as if by its own will. I have the kindness of fellow members to thank for sending yet more stuff. I wasn't expecting to find that making a working bass from unwanted donor parts was so satisfying. I humbly suggest that it's better than buying a kit. I know our Si (OP) has been setting up a nice little work space with a bespoke bench and a passion for creation. He's a shining example. I have every confidence in you Si. I may be some time...

I've gone in to edit my signature and found that it won't allow more than two links. I already had three links there. I saw a fellow member say he was limited to five yesterday. I want to keep those three links. None of them are to do with marketing I want to delete a photo that is no longer relevant When I try to and ultimately try to Save; the system says I am not allowed - "Too many links"!!! I do not know what the current BC policy is on how many links are allowed by the system I can not edit my signature until this is resolved
