1. Here we have my Roland Cube 30 practice amp for sale. It's got a 1x10" coaxial speaker (tweeter in the middle), 30W of power, and it's small but sounds a lot bigger than it is - it's got rather good COSM amp modelling and a bunch of built-in effects (chorus, flange, delay, reverb, compressor, octaver, etc). I've done rehearsals with this amp, it actually holds its own against a drumkit pretty well. £75 ono. Collection from Croydon preferred but can ship at buyer's expense, or can meet in the south M25 area. I'm also selling a Boss GT-6B multi-FX - you can have both for £160. 2. Here we have my Boss GT-6B multi-FX for sale. I'm not going to list all the specs, but they're all here on the Boss website: http://www.bossus.com/products/gt-6b/ It's in good shape, works perfectly, never gigged, and comes boxed with two power supplies. £90 ono. Collection from Croydon preferred, but can ship if necessary.
3. I've played through the guitar version and it makes a lot of noise for something the size of a lunchbox. Nice little bit of kit. I'd like to see what Blackstar could do with a proper bass amp. Their guitar amps are rather good and well respected. With the sad demise of Trace, and Marshall not making bass gear anymore, there's a gap in the market for them... maybe this is them testing the water.
4. I've got SimS LEDs in my Sei - bloody awesome things, plus they add a crucial element of showbiz to proceedings, with the added advantage of giving this overweight 40-something bloke something to hide behind. However, maybe the era of LEDs is coming to an end - I think fibre optics are the new coolest thing... http://www.noshadowsoptics.com
5.
I know a guy who is serious about this being the future, pay per view basically.
Apparently YouTube is the primary way that kids listen to music these days, over and above Spotify, iTunes, etc. Broadcasting your gig on YouTube is a pretty big deal if you can arrange it.
6.
Might be a bit weird for the singer though, to be basically singing to themselves in a quiet room!
Any singer who already uses IEMs should manage OK. There's a lot of gear to get though - PODs, IEMs, mixers, a decent full-range small PA (that US metal band I mentioned used that Bose setup with the tall, skinny speakers), and, if you're getting the PA, you'll probably get the lighting rig and so on too. Altogether probably just as expensive, if not more so, than any amp rig setup. But it does give you the versatility to do more or less any size room, from someone's living room to a good-sized conference room or ballroom. Plus you have the advantage that you can have your band mix essentially preset, with no soundman required. I do like the idea of putting everything through a small PA for the sake of versatility, but I can't get onboard with the whole 'silent disco' idea, with people just listening on Bluetooth headphones. That's just w@nky hipster rubbish.
7. I heard about a metal band in the US adopting the PODs/electronic drums/IEMs approach (with all the sound going out through a small PA) so they could do house concerts, gigs at student/fraternity houses, etc. Interesting idea. But, like everyone's said, a bit lacking in the atmosphere you only get in a very loud room.
8. Ah, a Wal through a chorus pedal. The sound of the 80s right there. Great all-round musician. I might even forgive him all the bad songs he wrote for various boy bands in the 90s.
9. Bump, plus £50 off the original prices, or £1000 for the pair (you'd almost pay that for just the 1206 new... )
10. I'm trying to lighten the load a bit, so I'm offering up my Boss GT-6B to you lovely BC folk. I'm sure all the specs are online somewhere, but it does almost every type of effect (especially some lovely delays, and it's got a very funky arpeggiator!). It's rock-solid and built like a tank, in great condition, and comes boxed with manual and two power supplies. £100 ono. I'm based in Croydon, collection is preferable, but I'll ship if need be at your expense.
11. It's time to trim the herd a bit, so I'm offering my two best Ibbys to all you good folk on Basschat. First is my SR1206 6-string: I've owned this bass for about 18 months, and it's hardly been out of the house, let alone gigged. It's one of the nice Premium models, with a mahogany body, wenge/bubinga neck, wenge fingerboard, Nordstrand Big Single pickups and Ibanez's 3-band EQ with a midrange frequency switch. It's beautifully made, very lightweight and sounds fantastic, and comes in one of Ibanez's nice soft/hard cases, complete with case candy and tools. I'm looking for £550 (they're over £900 new). Secondly, we have my SR1605. I bought this last year from fellow BC'er ezbass (I think he used to proceeds to fund his new Maruszczyk). The specs are the same as the 1206, but this one has a very pretty burl poplar top, and is even more lightweight (maybe 7lbs). This one also has an Ibby case with all the accoutrements. Looking for £500 for this one. £1000 for the pair. I'm open to offers on either. I'm based in Croydon and collection is preferable, although I can meet you anywhere within the southern half of the M25 if necessary. In a pinch, I can ship, but at your expense.
12.
They do custom colours as an extra on the Lionheart (standard) series, but if you don't like the pickguard, go for the Canon series Si
The Cannons have that single huge pickup, and are way more expensive! Seems a lot to pay just not to have a huge scratchplate!
13. Great-sounding basses and fantastic pickups. Just can't get over that massive expanse of scratchplate - I can't stand the aesthetic of basses where the front of them is more scratchplate than body. The standard colours are a bit on the drab side too.
14.
Whats the difference in the 'evo' model then? Doesn't seem that they were around for long before they became 'evo'?
Just gentle upgrades, really. The EVO ones have dual inputs (active/passive), two Speakon outputs, switchable compressor and a mute switch.
15. The RM-800 is a bloody good little head. Just toured with one and it held up to two sets a night with no issues (I shared my bass rig with the headlining band). Lots of good tone shaping, plenty of power and there's a decent amount of grunt there if you need it. The new version looks even better - the only criticisms I could have levelled at the old model was the lack of a mute switch and switches for the compressor and octaver, and the new one appears to have addressed two of these (still no switch for the octaver though). For the price it goes for, I don't think it can be beat.
16.
Interested in carvin/ kiesel/ Vader .any pics ?
How about a video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlHOizbf0OM
17. Not sure I'm seeing much of a resurgence of Steiny-style minimalist basses, but there's definitely a bit of a resurgence of headless basses going on - the new Carvin/Kiesel Vader basses are getting rave reviews, i'm seeing more Status headlesses than at any time since the 80s, and Ned Steinberger's own Radius basses seem to be doing really well.

Ashdown RM-800

My RM-800 just happily survived a UK tour, being used twice each night by myself and the headlining band, so I think we can say that it's proven itself in the reliability stakes. The only criticisms I can level at it are that it could do with a little more power - 1000W would be nice. Although, to be fair, I am using it to drive a Barefaced Big Twin II which can absorb a ridiculous amount of power. And I'll second the non-switchable subharmonics criticism - it accidentally got turned up a couple of times on tour leading to a less-than-desirable tone.
19. Did anyone see that Sadowsky have now joined the singlecut club? I like it. http://sadowsky.com/single-cut/
20. Unsurprising. Ashdown is basically run by most of the same people who ran TE back before the Kaman buyout so he's probably well acquainted with them. I guess this means Peavey are going to wind up TE once and for all then. That'd be a real shame - another huge name to add to the bass amp graveyard, along with SWR, Genz-Benz and Marshall.
21. David King used to offer custom basses with built-in tuners. No idea if he's still building basses (his website is still up, but is ancient), but here's the page with the deets: http://www.kingbass.com/features.html
22. Seriously, if he had Paypal or credit card payment options on his website, I'd have at least two of these by now. Spectacularly good basses for the money.
23. Fantastic basses. Tried one out a few weeks back at The Gallery and it was more than a match for any of the other high-end Jazzes they had there in terms of tone and feel. Having that parametric midrange control makes a world of difference. I just wish they'd do something about the weird control layout and that fugly headstock! Still, quite tempted by the CAR ones - fretted and fretless 5-strings, please.
