  1. I always play Peaches in soundchecks. Such a great line. And there will always be one in the room who gets it.
  2. They are lightweights. We are hardcore. Simple. I had a meatball. I managed to set it to make an incredible sound. By mistake. And could never find that sound again. Nevermind I sold it for 3 x what I paid.

Drop it down 1 turn on each. If you like it, happy days. If not, whack it back up again.

Yep, experimenting with strings is eye-wateringly expensive. But the reality is that 2nd hand strings are not dead and minging like 2nd hand bass guitar strings. However changing the action might well be all you need.

The action is easy. It is an allen key in from the back. It really does make a huge difference. Get stuck in.
  6. Wait! He is not actually Mr jr1515? You will be telling me that Davie is not Mr 504 next
  7. The Rick-esque ones look very nice. A kind of Gretsch Sparkle Jet vibe which I have always fancied replicating in a bass.
  8. I solved it by moving all the audio to the left side of my desk and the Plugable video to the right. My guess is that running balanced lines would have much the same effect, but I am not set up to do that. Happy ending. I know you were all waiting. 2 x screens on an M1 Macbook and nice quiet audio.
  9. I am off my own list. I thought I was normal bass GAS free but have been working out which solid colour would contrast well with the white back. Proably a dark blue with matching headstock.
  10. CCW = mainstream pop for over 30s. There is a reason bands who I would not choose to listen to shift WAY more product than I ever will. I do not doubt that the people who play CCW could rip it up with glee, but it is not that scene. Very few "normal" people want to listen to musicians giving it the max. The Gospel scene is incredibly niche in the way it encourages monster players giving it the max for "normal" people to react to.
  11. It's funny, there are all sorts of things going on in it which do not do it for me usually, but it really is very very pleasing indeed. I think I have a bit of a crush going on.
  12. Education at that level is about the processes of critical thinking, research, evaluation etc. If the topic you choose to drive that is The Beatles then all power to you. It is certainly the equal of learning how to write fugues and studying Bluebeard's Castle by Bartók like I had to for my degree. However, the reason Universities can be (and are) a racket is that the UK gives NO kudos to anything but white collar. Vocational education is very much seen as 2nd class. I work in vocational education and I know this to be true. The UK is messed up.
  13. I would add the Ritter Princess Isabella to that list.
  14. I have never carried a spare amp in nearly 40 years of gigging. The only time my amp did not work was when I wired it up wrongly. I cannot imagine carrying a spare amp. Or bass for that matter.
  15. I have a custom wound set of pickups in one of my 5 strings. Getting them wired in was a nightmare because the artisan had used different coloured cables for the same job on 2 pickups. As we were investigating the whole thing we sprinkled metal filings on the casings. It turns out that the pickups have 4 pole pieces. That was another step in my dissapointment with them. But there was a happy ending. As it turns out they work just fine and the 4 pole pieces were not an issue.
  16. I have just bought a QSC K10.2. For what I do now (Bass Guitar 5 string and DB 5 string) it is ample. If I want to fight with a drummer (those days are well over) I would borrow another from work. If I was going for a one cab solution I would go for a RCF 745. If I wanted to amplify a Chapman Stick I know I would be having a nightmare and there woudl be backline provided in the nightmare. I tried one once and it made no sense to me at all.
  17. I went to church one Sunday morning. The guy meant to be playing bass did not turn up. We were meeting in a school. I knew the music teacher so went to liberate a school bass to use. Plywood + I needed pliers to move machine heads. In my head I was thinking "this is going to be the pits". It played the big letter of the chords on beats 1 and 3 and everything was cool. Did it need a setup and new strings? Badly. Was the fact that it was plywood and minging an issue for THE TOOOOOOOOONE? Not at all. I gave up worrying about tonewoods there and then. Nice wood to look nice? Yes please. Maple for more "snap"? I am so over it.
