I have never carried a spare amp in nearly 40 years of gigging. The only time my amp did not work was when I wired it up wrongly. I cannot imagine carrying a spare amp. Or bass for that matter.

I have a custom wound set of pickups in one of my 5 strings. Getting them wired in was a nightmare because the artisan had used different coloured cables for the same job on 2 pickups. As we were investigating the whole thing we sprinkled metal filings on the casings. It turns out that the pickups have 4 pole pieces. That was another step in my dissapointment with them. But there was a happy ending. As it turns out they work just fine and the 4 pole pieces were not an issue.

I have just bought a QSC K10.2. For what I do now (Bass Guitar 5 string and DB 5 string) it is ample. If I want to fight with a drummer (those days are well over) I would borrow another from work. If I was going for a one cab solution I would go for a RCF 745. If I wanted to amplify a Chapman Stick I know I would be having a nightmare and there woudl be backline provided in the nightmare. I tried one once and it made no sense to me at all.

I went to church one Sunday morning. The guy meant to be playing bass did not turn up. We were meeting in a school. I knew the music teacher so went to liberate a school bass to use. Plywood + I needed pliers to move machine heads. In my head I was thinking "this is going to be the pits". It played the big letter of the chords on beats 1 and 3 and everything was cool. Did it need a setup and new strings? Badly. Was the fact that it was plywood and minging an issue for THE TOOOOOOOOONE? Not at all. I gave up worrying about tonewoods there and then. Nice wood to look nice? Yes please. Maple for more "snap"? I am so over it.

It looks like that is the option. Andertons have the 3 button one, but not the baby. I was just wondering if there was distribution in the UK. To be honest, by the time I have ordered it from the US and paid a customs and handling charge, the Morningstar 6 doobrie on FB for £170 seems to be much more versatile. For another £40? So I will get that. Thanks.

Everybody loves a NBD

The presets just get loaded in and you spin through them until you find the one. You can get all menu driven if you want, but the cool kids don't do that stuff.

I MUST HAVE ONE!!!! But seriously, the TC spectracomp comes with gazilions of presets so you can just scroll through until you find what fits. They go for £50 on here and if you do not like it you can flog it and not lose your money. I like them so much I have 3 for different places.

I can see the attraction. I know the helix stuff does all sorts of amazing but my head goes fuzzy when faced with millions of options so instead of actually getting something of value done I just ffaff around. This is true for the rest of my life as well.

I wish I had. I was playing Brecon Jazz and an early Amy Winehouse was further down the running order. I could not be be bothered to move from the green room. Shows you how much I know.

I no longer own one, but nice and high for proper DB thud is how I would define it. I do not like a low DB action and the NS delivered.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am going with one of those funky oval Delano ones. There was one on a mini bass in a Bass Bash I went to and I just liked it. And I like the shape. I am shallow that way.

Whack up the bridge and you are a solid 75% of the way there. I used Innovation Honeys and got a lovely thud.
