I suspect it will be because I have always fancied a Metal Flake but they need a scratchplate and no other bass I own has a scratchplate. Unless I want to respray an old Fender.

Classic. I am now humming and hahing between metal flake blue or a nice lightly reliced sea foam green. 1st world problems.

The pickup and preamp combo are very nice. If they came in any other body shape I would probably be there. It is not that I dislike the body shape, I just could not get comfy with it. Are the electronics available aftermarket? They did not used to be but I have got to the stage in life where I no longer NEED to know everything about everything bass so am out of the loop.

I have owned 3 of them. The electronics were just superb. I could not get with the lower horn digging into my leg when I sat down.

And there we have it. It feels really nice. It does the flats thing nicely. It stinks of fags. I had forgotten that people smoke. I guess it will have to sit in the garage for a couple of weeks. Eugh. I guess I will have to price up a metal flake finish now. That will sort out the smell!

I have a set of strings for F#BEADG tuning so I will use those first. It really is an experiment. I will do all that first. If it works I will think about modding it. If it does not I will flog it as a 5 string Uke bass.

I am trialing this. I will put metal strings on it BEADG. I will see how it behaves. If it settles (it has a truss rod) then I will get a magnetic pickup routed into it - probably one of those Delano Oval ones cos they are fit. I will also put a standard bass guitar bridge on it. It could benefit from a tummy cut and a forearm cut. We shall see. It was 200 all in from China. The woodwork is fine and dandy. The fret tangs are a bit sharp. It is vol and 3 band eq but a mag pickup would go passive vol and tone. All the pots have a center detent. Yes, all. Great for those half volume moments. If it does not take metal strings I will flog it. As with all my projects, I reserve the right to take an inordinately long time about it.

Obviously I reserve the right to do absolutely nothing with it in the same way as all my other incredible GAS ideas wither and die.

Nothing a metal flake blue with matching headstock would not sort out

I had a Peavey one and it was going to be my one bass to rule all the basses and all that malarkey that I tell myself every time I buy something new. Obviously the tracking was the bomb, but it was a horrible instrument to play. It just felt naff. Obviously I regret selling it.

I have a 5 string SUB arriving tomorrow. It has a Seymour Duncan Alnico pickup and Nordstrand Pre installed and is already strung with D'Addario Chrome flats. I just fancied trying one.
