I had a body built and specced black walnut. It turns out that black walnut and walnut are not the same thing. The bass is lovely, but it was an expensive lesson.

I have an EV RE20 which is not happy. I need it looked at and repaired. I have seen some vids on YT but my DIY track record is appalling. Can anyone suggest trustworthy and reliable Mic repair bods? TIA

If it is copyrighted, they do. You can bet that pharmaceutical companies don't say "no worries everyone, crack on using our stuff, it is a gift because that is who we are" Choose any large industry you want and insert it in to that sentence. Yes, writing a song which is a hit might only take 30 minutes. But the work to get to that point is not trivial.

Many of my Neutrik/decent cable leads are older than this millennium. There is little point in using anything cheaper. Of course, there are other equally good options, but decent quality costs. But it is always cheaper in the long run. One question, how are you winding/storing yours?

I have a US one (which I am selling, but it is a bit niche). I have no problems at all with the B. I am fully aware that I WOULD say that given the circumstances, but hope that I have been around long enough for my word to at least mean something. It is strung with Newtone round core nickels, and the B speaks with the same sound and tension as the rest.

Thanks Tony. There were words that look familiar there. But that is not where my skillset lies, sadly. But the conversation has started! And that is the important bit. I know that G&L do something..... capacitor across one coil.. something.... with their L1000 pickup which provides a HEFTY amount of grunt. Is anyone doing this kind of thing commercially as a drop in that I have missed? A combination of that G&L option on a Jazz could be interesting. Obv, it would not do the G&L thang, but it could be an interesting flavour. Also the Audere thang would be great.

Like most of us here, I have been through way too much kit. I only realised after the fact that much of what is out there does the same thing. Especially once the guitarmageddon kicks in and any subtlety is steamrollered. One preamp which did something different was the "Z" (impedance) switch on an Audere preamp I had and, foolishly, sold because the next thing caught my attention. I have never followed it up because Audere became unavailable in the UK. I have just read that they are closing down and this got me wondering. Is a standalone Z switch possible? Would it go before a preamp? Who would make one? Does anyone make one? When I activated it things got gruntier, and it was good grunt. Obviously I had turned the internal pot full on becuause that is what they are for. I have now reached the end of my technical expertise. Any ideas?

Sad times. I had a preamp of theirs which had a variable z (impedance) switch on it. I have no idea what it did technically, but it made my bass roar. I should have left that bass exactly as it was.
