  1. Ugh. Now I have colour envy.
  2. On a different tack, I plugged a bass which has weedy B tone into a TC spectracomp (multiband compression in a tiny box) and I had tone to rule the world with a properly integrated B string. And they are dirt cheap.
  3. I am having a very slow day so will spend some time wondering how to make this happen. I guess some sort of singlecut could provide an extra bit of wood to place a pickup in that area.
  4. I had a 36" scale 6 string Overwater strung with a bottom F sharp. It was the clearest bass voice I have ever had. If playing 6 strings did not make my brain go mushy I would have flogged everything else and stayed with it. It was a delight.
  5. Is there a finer Jazz colour scheme? No, there is not.
  6. Word. But I am still going to try again!
  7. The strings I have for sale will do it! But seriously, I stopped using them because they were a bit tight for me at correct pitch so I am sure they would be happy with going down a tone.
  8. I used to gig a Mackie SRM450 top and a Mackie SRS1500 sub. This was WAY before the cool kids went all FRFR. I had GLORIOUS LF on stage and was constantly smiling when I went below my A string. The room was absolutely drowning in LF and it was a short lived experiment.
  9. When you get the moulds done, do it with an open mouth. Much better seal.
  10. It is ALWAYS appropriate to have a thread documenting a bass build.
  11. It looks like the preamps have finished. Seeing as this thread is all about lurve for preamps chock full of transformers (apparently) has any one got any experience with an API Tranzformer LX? http://www.apiaudio.com/product.php?id=143
  12. His son is 15. 15 year olds love lifting things and proving how strong they are. The price is right, it is local and when the time comes for the next thing then you will be able to get your money straight back out of it. THAT is how you do it.
  13. And given Thomann's return policy you send it back easy peasy if it is not for you. Before March the 29th.
  14. Len from Derby speaks the truth. A MM5 was my first 5 and I could not get the B to sit with the instrument. On reflection I only tried 2 types of strings and I could not have a chat with a string maker in 1990. Imagine the GAS I could have avoided.
  15. When I grow up I hope to be able to do this kind of stuff with wood. Sadly I am 53 and have no more growing up left.
  16. Something I want ..... come up..... etc £460
