    I play 5 string DB, EUB, Plank and Uke. I like that low B. I have no trouble incorporating it. I am not dismissing anyone else's experience, just throwing in the concept that they are out there and completely usable. I even had an Innovation Rockabilly low B made. That was an expensive job. I did not keep it as it re-defined the concept of "dull thud". I think that modding the Stagg is just chucking money away (I have a lot of experience of doing that), and having the strings that close together would be a nightmare. I would suggest that you put the call out (as you kind of have) for a 5 string EUB local to you and go and mess with it.

      @discreet - I once had to call a courier back to my house because he’d put my parcel in a wheelie bin. Sure enough, he’d put it in someone else’s. 

      Thankfully it wasn’t bin day, but I feel sure I read of the same situation on BC where it was bin day and it was also too late to rescue the parcel at the intended destination. 🤔

      Couriers. Not filling people with confidence.

    Good technique can make not nice strings sound ok, but good technique and nice strings means you don't have to be thinking about your strings. This gives you headspace to count the correct amount of bars rest or try and decipher what the conductor actually wants.

    For a useable aspect of both I have settled on Innovation - either Braided or Polychrome. I played a bass with Obligato solo tuning but tuned at concert pitch. They were fabulous, but I just cannot fathom the concept of paying that much for strings. One day maybe.

    It is very difficult to look past the AI stuff in this situation. And with a different preamp into the power stage it turns into a capable plank amp that weighs nothing. I spent a few happy years with one and Berg 6x10 playing DB and or plank much too loud.

    I bought this to try. It is extraordinarily nice, but not my flavour. I could bore you all rigid with my musings about it, but you know what it is and you know what it does. I am not looking for any trades, but thanks for thinking about it

    1.5U Demeter pre. Jensen transformer on the DI. Does what it says on the tin. Makes a lovely noise. I cannot keep all the preamps. Even though that would be exciting Small boxes and ting are very cute, but when it comes to tone in places that need the tone (recording and such like) then boxes with the right sized transformers etc really help get the heft onto tape (or whatever else you kids are using these days).

    If you are doing 3, and the one with a satinwood f/b is yours, that begs the question what is happening to the other 2?

    Yep. I have never set the intonation on it so that aspect is a mystery to me.
