    I am always happy to garner praise for this event. Nothing makes me happier in life than kudos for doing absolutely nothing at all. I breathed the idea once and then Roger did all the work. However, if we want another one and Roger is on light duties (sorry to hear that Roger) for now then we could all pile in. All it takes is a reasonable function room and enough of us to make it there. Bicester has been mentioned. When you live where I live everywhere is far away so Bicester it shall be unless someone comes up with a better idea. Any venues in particular Brother?

    I have a bass in BD on commission sale. I have sold it privately on here. It has no case so am working out how to move it to London. I could send a case down and courier it from there and that is what I will do if it comes to it, but does anyone happen to be making the trip? Stranger things have happened!

[/quote] I have one of those. It works just fine. It is on the tailpiece so it is not a quick flick like on the headstock of a plank.

    I am not carrying a torch for the 5 string DB here, but in my experience pizz on the B string works just fine. Because I could not resist it I bought a 2nd hand DB D tuner on here so can go down to bottom A at the flick of a lever. I love LF!

    A singer I work with was singing in an industry thing. A nice older gentleman came to speak to her and liked her stuff. He gave her his number if he could help. She lost it. And did not recognise George Martin anyway.

    I certainly do much less orchestral than I used to. I depped for the St Matthew Passion at Easter. I had forgotten how much work it was. I was shattered by the end but my arco chops began to re-appear. Is it as easy to bow a 5 string as a 4? No. For me it is worth the effort, but as I said I completely get the other side of the coin.

I do realise that this does not provide an easy route into 5 string world. I totally get that neilp does not like them. I would not be without mine. I was playing 5 string bass guitars long before I hit 5 string DBs but was becoming increasingly fed up with missing the bottom 4th when moving from one instrument to the other.     I cannot own all the basses. I bought this on Ebay ages ago. There was a period when Mazeti was a name being used by a factory in China. I bid on it in a late night ebay session (you know the ones). I unexpectedly won it. That came as quite a surprise. As is the way of these things, the instrument itself was really nice, but the pickups were ............ uninspiring. So I bought a custom pair of Villex P pickups and the magic happened. It is a 35" scale neck through monster. It weighs in at 8lbs13oz (4Kg) and is just very nice to play. It speaks consistently across the neck, has easy access to the dusty end of the fingerboard. If it does not sell then I will not be overly sad, just a bit at a loss as to what to do with more instruments than I actually need. I know that this is not the way to speak on BC but I am entering a post GAS phase of my life. It is all quite odd. I have taken some pics and realised that the knobs are not on the bass. This is not great advertising, but I will find them and put them on and do a pic for those as well. The controls are Vol/Vol/Tone/Villex mid tone thing. The mid tone thing is a passive mid cut which gives a sort of scooped EQ sound. I would be lying if I said that I thought that this was the very best thing to happen to bass since JS Bach - but there it is and it is not offensive. It will be shipped in a cardboard box and very well wrapped. No case. No gig bag (unless you want to pay more and I will chuck one in).

    There it is. This was pre setup. Obv the bridge is not at that angle now. All I need now is to work out which gig bag is actually going to fit a deep bodied Tele.

[/font][/size] [/quote] Binding is ALWAYS lush. How about some Bird's Eye Maple binding? I have some on a Faith acoustic and it is subtle yet classy. You cannot really see the detail from the front, but then you see it from the side when you play and you get that warm feeling inside. Of course, I have no idea how much extra work this would be or any of that tedious detail stuff. If not I would go with the Ivory stuff. Black seems pretty hard. Obv YYMV!
