I am looking at flats at the moment. I cannot deny, having his name on them has got my attention.

I had one of those. I sold it. I am a doofus.

I have a 36" 6 string. It is quite the machine.

On the lookout for a G&L L1000 or L2000. Advice please.

I have a 5 string L1000 on sale at BassBross. -
Bill Bolton? He of The Bottom Line fame?

I think you can have one or the other......

Not wrong. I have not played DB at all for about 8 months. I played last Monday night for an hour. The lack of hand strength was shocking. I could not draw out the tone I am used to at all.

Gut strings for a Double Bass are heinously expensive. £600 odd?

Ask how much a nice violin bow costs. I dare you.

Niche, but a flavour I could live with

Sanding a late 80's Stingray neck, sacrilege?

Having said that I regularly attack all the necks I have with 0000 wire wool and that takes the tackiness off quickly and easily. -
Sanding a late 80's Stingray neck, sacrilege?
Owen replied to Tradfusion's topic in General Discussion
I picked up a 73 P neck and body here a very long time ago. "A" width if anyone cares. The body looked as if had been used for sledging on tarmac and someone had sanded all the finish off the back of the neck. The neck feels sublime. It is the most comfortable I have along with a solid Rosewood neck which is also bare wood. If it is already not working for you then I say get stuck in. -

I tried it before packing it. One of the pots was dodgy. That took time to mend. Then life happened. I still intend to send it away, but cannot for a week and a half so, as Dave Lee Roth might say "I migh as well bump BUMP" If you read below, it will look like I am just stringing you along with threats to send it away to bully you into making a decision. I am not; I am just incompetent and time-deaf. Most of my life is spent wondering why I don't achieve what I think I can do within the time allotted. I am just packing this now and will give it one last shout, as I will be making less by the time I have paid commission. OK. Let's get this moving otherwise I shall never be able to buy my completely over the top studio monitors for my deeply tragic late middle aged vanity recording project. I have one monthly listener on Spotify. My daughter. But I shall eventually achieve world domination. I know it. £1150 + carriage. The next chapter in the series "Why does Owen have so many basses he does not play?". (See also https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/508122-fender-usa-5-string-jazz-in-car-nitro-relic/#comment-5399519 , https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/473005-gl-clf-research-l1000-750-us-l1000-five-string-to-you-and-me-price-drop-£1200/#comment-4877658 and https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/499125-5-string-sparkly-goodness-dingwall-d-roc-content-£1200-bassbros/ ) The G&L and the Dingwall are at Bassbross by now, but I own them and would like to get them sold. Anyway, here is something you do not see every day. I was playing Ebay Roulette putting silly offers in for things. Shockingly one of them won. I no longer do this. Suddenly I was the owner of an original USA Stingray SUB. Rubbery coating and all. The bass itself was really nice but I was not digging the coating. So I had it stripped and painted in Glitter Blue (I made that colour up). Then it was lovely. Then I saw someone on here putting Wal-alike pickups in their Bongo and figured the Bongo electrics might be available. They were. I have owned several Bongos and know exactly what they can do, and I like it. So I bought the Bongo pickups and preamp and eventually had Mr Manton route it out and plumb them in. He does lovely work. Is this a very lovely thing? Yes. Yes, it is. Am I reaching for it? Nope. I seem to have settled on 33" scales for now. So this can go and be loved more somewhere else. If you are sitting there thinking "that's an idea, I will go and buy some Bongo electronics and plumb them in to my whatever" then sorry, that is not going to happen. I have seen them come up twice in MANY (no, really) years of watching. There is no way EB will sell you these. This is your only option for this flavour of thang. The original MM Serial number is in the 3rd picture so that you can see that I am not a dodgy geezer. I was going to change the EQ knobs to make it more Stingray-alike, but I decided to leave them as it is a nod to what is going on inside this machine. It comes with a D tuner as all basses should. I will not be gutted if this does not sell, but holding on to it does not make sense.

Setting up a P Bass, Action and Nut Slots
Owen replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Repairs and Technical
I needed a file to cut a .175 slot. I had no files at all. I folded a piece of sandpaper over a .130 string and the magic happened.
