Or clear orange with binding. Or black with binding. I will be ok by the morning. Late night is lethal for GAS.
There are very few 5's about, I think there are about 6 or 7. I played one after I did a set up for a chap who found one in cash converters When we spoke to G&L they said there were no plans to make any more as the balance was off...
Sadness

This is a lot of bass for the money. I have waxed lyrical about them whenever they come up. It is light (8lbs 5.5oz) and has a fairly flat fingerboard. The neck has an asymetric carve on the back and has the Buzz Feinten intonation system. 35" scale. When I bought it originally it an MM type of humbucker in it (this will come with the bass). I will now list all I have done to it. Rout body to accept Seymor Duncan MM pickup. 2 x MM pickups = more betterer, obv. Drilled body to accept Active preamp. Got bored and took original pickup and SD pickup and preamp out and put a custom wound Armstrong P pickup in there. Installed an empty shell to cover the hole left by the SD pickup. Vol + passive tone (with funky chicken head knob) , spare hole so dummy pot + knob to fill hole and a KILL SWITCH because there was another spare hole. Did I mention a KILL SWITCH? The strings are "dead as" TI Jazz rounds (not flats) and they have a lovely springy sponginess to them. There is a D tuner on the B which slides down to A very easily. It is a silver one. But let's not get too fussy. So, yeah, this is not factory fresh but it is a really nice bass. So why am I selling? I just do not use it as I have others. If I had any backbone at all I would sell my two 4 strings as well but..........well...........maybe one day..................... It is very black if that kind of thing floats your boat. I do not NEED to sell this so if it does not shift then my world will not stop turning. It will go when it goes. As I have mentioned it is an awful lot of bass for the £ and if it was my only bass then I could be more than happy with it. Quite fancy it you know you do. I am using Inno 140B braided core ones. They speak well with the bow with a rich sound. For me, much richer than Spiros. I have no experience with Evahs, but have never felt the need to look at them. I am happy with the Innos. They give a nice warm pizz with a meaty thud. Not Gut-esque but no metal Spiro boing. I realise that these are my opinions and not empirical facts

Does adding a preamp change tone (obv the answer is yes).

Thanks everyone. It has been suggested that because the preamp is super high impedance for piezo that I could usefully put a 250k resistor across the mag input to lower the load the mags see. Someone else was in exactly this situation and this was done with good results. The bass is wired with a 5 way switch at the moment and that works fine. I had two soapbars made which had one J and half a P in each. Just because I wanted to try. As it happens I tend to stick to the 2xJ option and ignore the P. But you have to try! Again, thanks all for your input. -
Got the Aluma J in my Mex Jazz, more of an aesthetic choice as the bass is refinished in chrome.
Pictures. NOW! -
I bought this in a fit of GAS. I honestly thought I was past this stuff. I have 2 perfectly good gig bags and several not so good ones, as well as hard cases and flight cases I never ever use. Someone take this and use it. I am going outside to have a word with myself. It is actually closer to pillar box red than the pinkish hue it has in my photos. My phone has a 70 gazillion pixel camera so I do not understand why it cannot take proper pics. Ho hum. It is in totally excellent nick + price is to your door. I decided to take a bunch of my students to see this gig and they all said "yeah!". I then asked them to actually front up and give me the money they agreed to pay and they went "oh". I have 20 spare tickets to sell at face value. These include entry to the Jojo Mayer drum masterclass. Bass content = John Davies playing synthy bass goodness on fretted and fretless bass guitars. Here is a link to the venue page http://www.therubylounge.com/index.php/shows/jojo-mayer-nerve-guest-dj-arkell-hargreaves This is the noise they make

Everything is fine but I am seeking advice. I am wondering if I have made a mistake. I have a bass with 2 x J pickups, 1 x P pickup and piezo elements in the bridge. I have put a John East pre in the bass to buffer the piezo and that makes a lovely noise. The passive pickups are going through the 5 way switch and then into one side of the preamp. http://www.east-uk.com/index.php/all-products/mpm-01.html The piezos went in after the magnetic pickups were fully funtioning. In the original pre-piezo set up the magnetic pick-ups were lush beyond. After the piezos were plumbed in along with the preamp I am not sure if I have lost some of the heft of the magnetic pickups. The Piezos sound lovely. I am just not sure if I am experiencing the full lushness of the mag pickups as they were. Would it be possible to wire the bass Vol/Vol/Vol for the mag pickups (2 x J + 1 x P) + passive tone and then have a plain 2 x way switch so that the output is either passive mag or pre-amped piezo? Would the magnetic pickups load each other (I am not entirely sure what I have just asked) in a negative way, that is - would the P pickup mess with the 2 x J pickups if they all had their own passive volume controls and the P pickup was turned off? Would a 2 way switch create a nasty "click" if I went for it mid song? I freely admit that I am utterly cluless in these matters. I know enough to get myself into trouble but not enough to get myself out of trouble
