My favourite thing! Cat Diary Day 983 of my captivity My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. B------ds! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage. Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.... for now. ======================================================================================================= I have decided that I am similar to the dog, just with basses. Unless there is something horrific with the set up then I like every one I try. Every time I pick up one I do not own I think "yep, this would do". I am so shallow.
2. Ironically I am almost tipping into going into software front ends instead of hardware. I already am sorted for preamps, but it does look nice!
3. He has just replied to my email and has a 230v one ready to go. I do not need a new pre.
4. http://arkhamsound.com/octling.html Looks nice, word in TB is that it delivers the goods. I have asked if they will send to the UK. Not that I need another preamp, but......................
5. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2M6KHZQp8kg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> https://youtu.be/2M6KHZQp8kg One day I will learn how to embed videos. Can anyone do it for me?
6. I have scratchplate GAS. This is ridiculous.
7. The Five string bass has dodgy battery contacts. With some tender loving care it is fine and dandy. A truss rod tweak will make it sweet.
8. A drummer friend of mine said that I put the beat in a sexy place. Hmmmmm........
9. Well, it looks as if delivery to Bristol will be included in the price. Sorry.
10.
What manner of bass are you thinking of for this?
It will be going into this http://basschat.co.uk/topic/128791-shukfellow/ so the longer shaft should be fine. Thanks again everyone.
11.
Bravewood jazz
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
12. As it happens, I have friend driving from Bangor (where I am) to Bristol on Friday. It comes with a cover as well
13. I have run the system I am using at 18V and must admit that I did not feel the benefit, but for space reasons I will be using the 2 x A23 12v trick
14. Sorry for being dozy. One of these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231543202368?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
15. I used to have Peavey Midibass - it tracked fine but was less than inspiring as an instrument!
16. I am placing this on hold until I have had a chance to try it with the new Bergantino amp. I realise that this is a poor selling techinque, but sorry, that is how it is. Price drop to £350 So, I am having a change. It is a 4ohm jobby. It would cost £700 + to bring one in from the US by the time everyone had taken their cut. You know how it is. I needed a small cab because I was fed up of carrying my big cab. I looked at all the likely 12" candidates and decided to go with an ACME. I have always fancied trying one as I like his honesty and general attitude to speakers. It is light and well constructed. It has a port on the front. It has massively satisfying low frequency extension. There is no obvious sonic weakening as I slide down the B string. It fills the room with chocolatey goodness. Frequency response: 41Hz to 22 kHz +/-3 dB. -6dB at 31 Hz Power Handling: 350 Watts RMS continuous Recommended Power: 300-400 watts Sensitivity: 91.1 dB 1 watt/1 meter Impedance: Available in 4 or 8 ohms Dimensions: 23"H x 15.75"W x 16.5"D Weight: 37.5 lbs Please ask if you have any questions. Price is not including carriage.
17. Thanks everyone. I love this place
18. I have a pair of 40J soapbars with a BTC circuit. I am about to have them put them into a new bass but would like to have passive tone control in as well. I am aware that the treble control will give me an element of HF control, but I like what a passive roll off does (I had one on a set of EMGs with no active EQ) so fancy having one put in while I am at it. I am drilling a new body so now is the time to decide how it will all be cut open. Do I have to use an EMG pot? If so which one? Where does it go? So many ideas, so little ability to realise them Obviously I will not be doing anything with a soldering iron, they hurt me.
19. Glad I missed that otherwise I would now own a HB 335. Like I need a guitar in my life!
20. Please people, go to this and report back because I cannot make it http://www.songkick.com/artists/245757-meshell-ndegeocello
21. I did a session once, the engineer looked at my bass and was amazed that I had EMGs in it. He said "I thought they were meant to be all zingy, bright and clinical. They were not. They sounded really good". A lot of internet hearsay tells us that EMGs have no soul. This is not true.
22. B2M is ok-ish if you are happy to go up an octave and be super clean, but do not expect to plug in and be triggering of your normal lines. I am using a You Rock guitar for midi stuff. Obv not my normal bass but it means I can use basic plectrum technique and trigger interesting sounds.
