2.
Cool looking bass, Owen; how does it sound? Shame to let something so individual go, but what 'GAS' wants, 'GAS' usually gets! GLWTS
It sounds just like a Jazz should
Whereabouts are you located?
I am in Bangor, North Wales. Thanks
3. I have always fancied a J5 like my first proper Jazz (my first bass, a columbus Jazz, does not count) but with an extra B. I have played all sorts of J5 things but came to the conclusion that one of the things that I loved about my original Jazz was that is is pretty knackered and I do not have to look after it. I played an AC J5 and really liked it but could not justify the money (if I had the money I would have dropped it in a heartbeat). In the meantime I built a Tele from parts and got it sprayed in Nitro and reliced. Again I had the freedom of not actually having to worry about the chair/belt buckle/etc etc and I liked it. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I would get a neck and body built, sprayed up and then bolt it together myself. I commisioned the neck (same radius as F but with a slighlty assymetric carve on the back) and body, had it painted (and lightly aged/reliced) in Olympic white with a matching headstock and put it all together. The spec is as follows 34" scale 19mm bridge spacing Hipshot tuners D-Tuner on the B Clay dots Nordstrand NJ5S split coil Kiogon harness with S1 switch for good measure Hipshot Bridge B style Tort Guard Currently strung with pretty fresh DR Sunbeams The bass is quite obviously not a Fender Jazz so has a decal which says Ffendar Jass on it. This is absolutley hilarious if you are a Welsh speaker from North Wales, but the script is such that it is not obvioulsy that until you look closely. As Hannah Montanna would say, you get the best of both worlds. "So, if it is all that then why are you flogging it Owen?" I have my eye on an NS Fretted 5 Omni Bass and this is probably the most sellable thing I have that I can actually bring myself to sell. I do not hugely want to sell it, but I do HUGELY want an NS Fretted 5 Omni Bass and the nature of my bass economy means that stuff has to go. I will be shifting various gig bags and cases and pedals and stuff and stuff and stuff to raise funds. You know how it is. 4. I am in the very early stages of messing with it but I will say that the octaver is great, tracking lower than an OC2. My hi-fi speakers don't comfortably go that low so I will have to fire up my rig to accurately report what it actually goes down to.
5. Software, not analogue, tone etc etc etc. I would love one of these to slap into my iPad with presets. I could happily live with something that is only 80% there.
6. I used to own one when they first came out and it was a lovely thing. I flogged it for a huge profit on Ebay to a bloke in the US when they stopped making them.
7.
Not a bass, but my Chinese modern player Marauder is a fabulous instrument, built, and especially finished, to a very high standard. Easily a match for my Japanese Fenders, and the best set up I've had from any guitar, ever!
I have the same instrument and the same experience. It will be even fabulouser when I have had it resprayed in CAR with a matching headstock.
8. Uh oh! It's real now. 9. Thanks Paul. The sequencable parameter thing looks great. And I had an iTunes voucher for Christmas.
10. Flux FX? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG7j24-cUgEoZIVf8Oru2yA/videos?sort=dd&view=0&flow=grid&live_view=500
11. I have a flight case reputedley used/owned by him. Obv there is no way of confirming this and I only use it to challange couriers.
12. Why is this still here? This is an insane price. No. Really.
13. I would not let the 15Khz thing worry you if you are thinking about this. Even if you could hear it (which I cannot, thanks snare drums and cymbals) I know that virtually no bass cab is going to be operating up there.
14. Someone posted a screenshot of it on their phone with a "shuffle play" icon highly visible. I must admit that my first thought was "oh, remixes with more swing".
15. Find retro169 on facebook. Top stuff and good price. I did discuss refinishing my black P as a Sunburst with him and he said that getting all the black off and clean could be a royal pain. He will be much cheaper if you send it to him stripped.
16. My son is a drummer and we have some stuff to shift. Zildjian K 16" (yes 16") light hats £220 Big Dog Double Pedals £80 Set of Hardcases (12, 13, snare, 16 + 22) £120 Slingerland 70s snare - Steel. Well worn but sounds good £80 As usual, pics later.
17. So glad these are not 5ers otherwise I would have yet another project that I will never get round to!
18. I have had a few jobs done by Jim Fleeting recently. He has been like a breath of fresh air. The work is great. the timescale is as he says it will be and the comms are great. It is like being in a parallel universe compared to my normal luthier experiences.
19. Selling out is working in a job that you do not like because you need to be able to pay your bills. I happen to like my job, but would jump at the chance to sell out as a full time musician. All this talk of "keeping it real etc" totally ignores the way the industry works. Massive Attack bloke writer retired from music a long time ago but makes money that the rest of us would cry about every year from people paying to use his music in this, that and the other. Financially, the Video Game industry makes the Music industry look like children playing shop with plastic money and a till which goes "ching" every time it is opened. Selling out as a musician? Make enough money from music to not have to work a day job and even (just imagine) fund a decent pension pot? Yes please.
20. And the winner is Marleaux Pagelli! Thanks everyone. Pagelli and Wishbass in the same thread. Who'd of thunk it?
21. Was it Swiss? I cannot remember. It was not a Ritter. IIRC there was gold leaf on the body. TIA
